Article Synopsis
  • - Penile fracture is a rare but urgent urological emergency caused by the rupture of tunica albuginea during an erection, often requiring immediate surgery, and it may affect erectile function even after repair.
  • - The study involved 58 patients from Peking University First Hospital who underwent surgical repair for penile fractures between September 2014 and August 2022, with their erectile function assessed using the International Index of Erectile Function-5 (IIEF-5) score.
  • - Results indicated that most injuries occurred due to vigorous sexual activity and that factors like delayed presentation and concurrent urethral injuries significantly impacted erectile function post-surgery, with related p values highlighting the importance of these factors.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to assess how a history of epididymitis affects the outcomes of microsurgical vasoepididymostomy and spontaneous pregnancy in patients with epididymal obstruction.
  • A total of 205 patients underwent the surgery between 2014 and 2016, with follow-up evaluations conducted every 3 months focusing on semen quality and pregnancy rates.
  • Results showed no significant differences in surgery success rates, sperm quality, or pregnancy rates between those with and without a history of epididymitis, indicating the surgery's effectiveness regardless of epididymitis history.

Background: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of aildenafil citrate in the treatment of erectile dysfunction (ED) in Chinese population.

Methods: A multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, double-cycle crossover trial was conducted in three medical centers. Male patients with mild to moderate ED were randomized into two groups and received either aildenafil citrate or placebos, followed by a crossover administration after a 7-day washout.

Background: In our previous study, a novel low-intensity pulsed ultrasound (LIPUS) therapeutic device has been shown to improve erectile function non-invasively in a diabetic-induced erectile dysfunction (ED) animal model.

Methods: In order to investigate the efficacy and safety of LIPUS in the clinical treatment of patients with ED, a multicenter, randomized, double-blind, sham-treated, controlled clinical study was conducted at five medical centers, and 120 patients with mild to moderate ED were enrolled in the study. Patients were randomized into a sham-treated control group (40 patients) or a LIPUS-treated group (80 patients).

Objective: To compare and analyze semen quality improvement between the patients with microscopic varicocelectomy and laparoscopic varicocelectomy.

Methods: A total of 291 patients with varicocele were included in this study, of whom 176 underwent microscopic varicocelectomy and 115 laparoscopic varicocelectomy. The improvement rates of semen quality and pregnancy rates between the two groups were compared.

Introduction: A new concept of Erectile Dysfunction with No Sexual Intercourse (ED-NS) is proposed to acknowledge the subpopulation of patients who are unable to achieve or sustain an erection in the absence of sexual intercourse. Since the commonly used ED diagnostic tool, International Index of Erectile Function Questionnaire is not able to adequately assess the erectile function (EF) in the absence of intercourse, the researchers developed a new 10-item questionnaire to better evaluate the EF in this special patient subpopulation: Self-Estimation Index of Erectile Function-No Sexual Intercourse (SIEF-NS).

Aim: To validate the reliability, sensitivity and specificity of SIEF-NS.

Purpose: We investigated the performance of a novel device for adult circumcision, that is the circular cutter with stapled anastomosis for circumcision.

Materials And Methods: A total of 62 men with a mean ± SD age of 28 ± 8 years were enrolled from June to September 2012 to undergo circumcision using the circular cutter with stapled anastomosis. The device used 18 staples for anastomosis, which fall out during the recovery course, as designed.

Study Question: Can microsurgical vasoepididymostomy (MVE) be used to treat azoospermia in men with epididymal obstruction who have had a prior attempt at sperm retrieval with ICSI and failed to achieve a pregnancy?

Summary Answer: MVE is an effective treatment for epididymal obstruction.

What Is Known Already: MVE is an effective treatment for non-vasectomized patients with epididymal obstruction. However, ICSI is the preferred treatment for patients with obstructive azoospermia in some reproductive centers.

Objective: To investigate the injected autologous adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs) in improving stress urinary incontinence in a rodent model of parturition-related stress incontinence and the possible mechanism.

Methods: The 40 rats were developed stress urinary incontinence models by postpartum balloon dilation of the vagina for 4 hours followed by bilateral ovariectomy. ADSCs were isolated from the peri-ovarian fat and labeled with thymidine analog 5-ethynyl-2-deoxyuridine (EdU).

Icariin and icariside II (ICA II), 2 active components isolated from herba epimedii, have a closely structural relationship. There is evidence that icariin may be useful in the treatment of erectile dysfunction (ED); however, the study on the therapeutic efficacy of ICA II on ED is currently scant. We investigated the effects of ICA II on improving erectile function of rats with streptozocin-induced diabetes.

Diabetes-associated erectile dysfunction is associated with increased extracellular matrix deposition and reduced smooth muscle content in the corpus cavernosum. The mechanisms of these processes are not well understood. In this study, we investigated fibromuscular changes in the corpus cavernosum of rats with streptozotocin-induced diabetes to determine the mechanisms underlying pathologic changes in penile structure and function.

Introduction: Icariin has been shown to improve penile hemodynamics in animal models of erectile dysfunction from cavernous nerve injury and castration. The effects of icariin on penile hemodynamics in diabetic animals remain to be determined. Transforming growth factor β1 (TGFβ1) has been implicated in the pathogenesis of diabetes-related erectile dysfunction.

Premature ejaculation (PE) is a common sexual disorder in men that is mediated by disturbances in the peripheral and central nervous systems. Although all pharmaceutical treatments for PE are currently used 'off-label', some novel oral agents and some newer methods of drug administration now provide important relief to PE patients. However, the aetiology of this condition has still not been unified, primarily because of the lack of a standard animal model for basic research and the absence of a widely accepted definition and assessment tool for evidence-based clinical studies in patients with PE.

In this study, we investigated the safety and efficacy of a poly acid-co-glycolide biodegradable scaffold (Maxpol-T) coated by autologous fibroblasts (AF) for penile girth enlargement in small penis syndrome (SPS). Eighty patients with SPS were enrolled in a clinical study at 2 medical centers; 69 patients completed the study protocol. Scrotal skin was harvested under local anesthesia, and AFs were cultured and seeded on a Maxpol-T scaffold; the cografted scaffold was implanted under the Buck's fascia of penile shaft via a circumcising incision.
