Aqueous Zn-S batteries provide competitive energy density for large-scale energy storage systems. However, the cathode active material exhibits poor electrical conductivity especially at the discharged state of ZnS. Its morphology generated in cells thus directly determines the cathode electrochemical activity.

Anti-synthetase syndrome (ASyS) is an autoimmune disease characterized by the presence of autoantibodies to aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases accompanied with various organ involvements, including the lung, joints, and skin. The ASyS-related interstitial lung disease (ILD) can be seen in the vast majority of patients. The extent of lung involvement has a significant impact on patient prognosis; the occurrence of rapid-progressive ILD could prominently increase mortality.

Background: Data with fine granularity about COVID-19-related outcomes and risk factors were still limited in the idiopathic inflammatory myopathies (IIMs) population. This study aimed to investigate clinical factors associated with hospitalized and severe COVID-19 in patients with IIMs, particularly those gauged by myositis-specific antibodies.

Methods: This retrospective cohort study was conducted in the Renji IIM cohort in Shanghai, China, under an upsurge of SARS-CoV-2 omicron variant infections from December 2022 to January 2023.

Aqueous zinc-halogen batteries suffer from poor coulombic efficiency and short cycle life owing to the formation and dissolution of polyhalides in electrolytes. Herein, we apply a zinc-dual-halide complex strategy to confine free halides and suppress polyhalide formation. The high stabilities of zinc-dual-halide complexes are identified to be essential for effective confinement.

Dysfunction of the ubiquitin‒proteasome system can induce sustained endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS) and subsequent cell death. However, malignant cells have evolved multiple mechanisms to evade sustained ERS. Therefore, identification of the mechanisms through which tumor cells develop resistance to ERS is important for the therapeutic exploitation of these cells for drug-resistant tumors.

Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) are promising cathode candidates with high structural stability. However, they contain redox inactive linkages and experience low redox potential. Herein, a full anti-aromatic microporous COF cathode material of TAQ-BQ is designed for aqueous zinc batteries.

The development of Mg-ion batteries is hindered by the lack of cathode materials that allow facile and reversible Mg intercalation at high potential. Herein, the authors present a polyanion cathode material of K (VO) (HPO ) (C O )⋅4.5H O (KVPCH) for Mg-ion batteries.

Objects: It has been recognized the nexus between trisomy 8 and auto-inflammatory features in myelodysplasia syndrome (MDS). Recent research about VEXAS syndrome proved clonal hematopoiesis could interfere with innate immune system far before occurrence of hematological malignancies. We reported a case series of clonal cytopenia with auto-inflammatory features in trisomy 8 patients.

The Mn dissolution of MnO cathode materials causes rapid capacity decay in aqueous zinc batteries. We herein show that the dissolved Mn can be deposited back to the cathode with the aid of a suitable conductive agent. The active material is thus retained for energy storage, and this MnO/Mn redox process also provides capacity.

Objective: Spontaneous intramuscular hemorrhage (SIH) is a rare but life-threatening complication associated with dermatomyositis (DM). This study reported a case series of SIH associated with DM. In addition, the characteristics and prognostic effects for this complication were analyzed based on literature review.

Anti-melanoma differentiation-associated gene 5 (MDA5) antibody-positive dermatomyositis (DM)-associated interstitial lung disease (ILD) may progress rapidly and lead to high mortality within 6 or 12 months. Except for reported prognostic factors, simple but powerful prognostic biomarkers are still in need in practice. In this study, we focused on circulating monocyte and lymphocyte counts and their variation tendency in the early stage of ILD.

Article Synopsis
  • MDA5 DM-ILD is a serious disease that affects the lungs, and this study used high-resolution CT imaging to analyze it and create a risk prediction model for 6-month mortality.
  • Researchers evaluated images from 228 patients using a radiomics approach, developing a Rad-score that combined well with clinical predictors to enhance accuracy in mortality prediction.
  • The Rad-score showed strong performance in predicting 6-month mortality across different patient cohorts, suggesting it is a reliable tool for assessing prognosis in MDA5 DM-ILD patients.

Objective: Anti-melanoma differentiation-associated gene 5 (MDA5) autoantibody is a distinctive serology hallmark of dermatomyositis (DM). As an autoantigen, MDA5 is a cytoplasmic RNA recognition receptor. The aim of this study was to address the question of whether the RNA-containing immune complex (IC) formed by MDA5 and anti-MDA5 could activate type I interferon (IFN) response.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate anti-synthetase syndrome (ASyS) patients who presented with recurrent episodes of fever and systemic inflammation.

Methods: A retrospective cohort of Chinese ASyS patients (n=126) in our center (between January 2013 and January 2020) was included. Patients presenting with concomitant autoimmune rheumatic diseases or malignancies were subsequently excluded.

Anti-melanoma differentiation-associated gene 5-positive dermatomyositis-associated interstitial lung disease (MDA5 DM-ILD) is a life-threatening disease. This study aimed to develop a novel pulmonary CT visual scoring method for assessing the prognosis of the disease, and an artificial intelligence (AI) algorithm-based analysis and an idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF)-based scoring were conducted as comparators. A retrospective cohort of hospitalized patients with MDA5 DM-ILD was analyzed.

Rechargeable aqueous zinc-organic batteries are promising energy storage systems with low-cost aqueous electrolyte and zinc metal anode. The electrochemical properties can be systematically adjusted with molecular design on organic cathode materials. Herein, we use a symmetric small molecule quinone cathode, tetraamino-p-benzoquinone (TABQ), with desirable functional groups to protonate and accomplish dominated proton insertion from weakly acidic zinc electrolyte.

The majority of interstitial lung diseases (ILDs) develop rapidly and are associated with a poor prognosis. Therefore, new noninvasive markers are needed to guide the classification and prognostication of ILD. We enrolled 95 patients with ILD, including dermatomyositis-associated ILD (69), Sjögren's syndrome-associated ILD (= 7), mixed connective tissue disease-associated ILD (= 9), idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (= 5) and hypersensitivity pneumonitis (= 5), 82 patients with connective tissue disease but without ILD as well as 24 healthy controls, then evaluated fractional exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO50; 50 ml s) (Bisenkov20069-14), pulmonary function and high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT) scores.

The energy storage behavior of the Li3V2(PO4)3 cathode in zinc batteries is evaluated. The dissolution or decomposition into vanadium oxide in aqueous electrolytes is revealed. Using the optimal combination of water and acetonitrile solvents in electrolyte, those processes are effectively prevented without sacrificing the Zn2+ de/insertion kinetics.

Anti-melanoma differentiation-associated gene 5-positive dermatomyositis (MDA5 DM) is a rare autoimmune disease predominantly reported in East Asia. MDA5 DM is an intractable disease with impressively high mortality due to rapid-progressive interstitial lung disease (RPILD). Other typical clinical manifestations comprise DM-specific rash (Gottron's papules, heliotrope rash) and amyopathic/hypomyopathic muscle involvement.
