Objective: Elevated plasma Cystatin C levels are associated with an increased mortality risk among middle-aged and elderly Chinese individuals. This study explores whether tracking the longitudinal changes in Cystatin C can improve the prediction of mortality risk and allow better risk stratification, jointly with baseline measurements.

Design & Methods: This analysis includes 3,195 participants from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study who completed plasma Cystatin C measurements in two waves (2011 and 2015) and were followed through 2020.

In China, grass-roots emergency public health personnel have relatively limited emergency response capabilities and they are constantly required to update their professional knowledge and skills due to recurring and new public health emergencies. However, professional training, a principal solution to this problem, is inadequate because of limitations in manpower and financial resources at grass-roots public health agencies. In order to provide a cost-effective and easily expandable way for grass-roots personnel to acquire knowledge and skills, the National Health Planning Commission of China developed an emergency response information platform and provided trial access to this platform in Anhui and Heilongjiang provinces in China.

This study aims at developing and testing a pragmatic expert system for HIV voluntary counseling (VCT-ES) that leverages best practices. The VCT-ES was developed via evolutionary prototyping and piloted in 10 voluntary HIV counseling and testing (VCT) clinics from Anhui and Beijing representative of prefecture and county level VCT clinics in China. All counselors with the clinics and the clients to the clinics within selected two weeks at baseline and the end of study were invited to participate.
