N6-methyladenosine (m6A) demethylase is essential for enzymatically removing methyl groups from m6A modifications and is significantly implicated in the pathogenesis and advancement of various cancers, which makes it a promising biomarker for cancer detection and research. As a proof of concept, we select the fat mass and obesity-associated protein (FTO) as the target m6A demethylase and develop a dandelion-like nanoprobe-based sensing platform by employing biobar-code amplification (BCA) for signal amplification. We construct two meticulously designed three-dimensional structures: reporter-loaded gold nanoparticles (Reporter@Au NPs) and substrate-loaded magnetic microparticles (Substrate@MMPs), which can self-assemble to form dandelion-like nanoprobes via complementary base pairing.

Regulating the spatial distribution of membrane receptors can artificially reprogram cellular behaviors, which play a critical biological role in various physiological and pathological processes. Herein, we construct a tumor cell-specific signal processing platform (TCS-SPP) for controlled promotion/inhibition of cellular-mesenchymal epithelial transition factor (c-Met) receptor dimerization to noninvasively modulate cellular behaviors. Upon the dual-aptamer recognition in the upstream input signal circuit (UISC) to discriminate target cancer cells, the membrane-anchored DNA signal processor (DSP) is activated for signal amplification via rolling circle amplification (RCA) followed by the working of an ATP molecular switch for signal conversion, achieving receptor modulation in the downstream output signal circuit (DOSC).

Background: Herba Patriniae and Coix seed (HC) constitute a widely utilized drug combination in the clinical management of colorectal cancer (CRC) that is known for its diuretic, anti-inflammatory, and swelling-reducing properties. Although its efficacy has been demonstrated in a clinical setting, the active compounds and their mechanisms of action in CRC treatment remain to be fully elucidated.

Aim: To identify the active, CRC-targeting components of HC and to elucidate the mechanisms of action involved.

Background: Almost all cases of cervical cancer can be attributed to human papillomavirus (HPV) infection. The loop electrosurgical excision procedure (LEEP) is widely used to treat HPV-mediated disease; thus, cervical cancer is highly preventable. However, LEEP does not necessarily clear HPV rapidly and may affect the accuracy of the results of ThinPrep cytology test (TCT) and cervical biopsy due to the formation of cervical scars.

Introduction And Objectives: The CHADS-VASc score, used to assess the risk of left atrial appendage thrombus (LAAT) formation in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF), has limited predictive value. Moreover, transesophageal echocardiography imaging, the gold standard diagnostic method to identify thrombi, is semi-invasive. Consequently, there is a need for alternative and noninvasive diagnostic methods for LAAT risk assessment.

The antagonistic coculture with tea phytopathogen induces antifungal cryptic metabolites from isogenesis endophyte against tea phytopathogens. Sixteen new polyketides with six structural frameworks including ten cryptic ones, named coldaldols A-C (-), collediol (), and daldinrins A-L (- and ), were found from the coculture of and by different culture methods. The unique framework of compounds and featured a benzopyran-C polyketone hybrid, and compounds - were characterized by the novel benzopyran dimer.

Background: With an increasing number of patients undergoing left atrial appendage occlusion (LAAO), more attention is being paid to relieving clinical symptoms and improving the quality of life of these patients. For patients with atrial fibrillation (AF), direct current cardioversion (DCCV) is an alternate, nonpharmacological choice to restore sinus rhythm and relieve clinical symptoms.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to assess the feasibility and safety of the DCCV at the time of LAAO for patients with AF.

Rational design of multifunctional nanomedicines has revolutionized the therapeutic efficacy of cancers. Herein, we have constructed the functional nucleic acids (FNAs)-engineered nanoplatforms based on the concept of a bio-barcode (BBC) for synergistic targeted therapy of multidrug-resistant (MDR) cancer. In this study, the platinum(IV) prodrug is synthesized to covalently link two kinds of FNAs at a rational ratio to fabricate three-dimensional BBC-like DNA nanoscaffolds, accompanied by the one-pot encapsulation of ZnO nanoparticles (NPs) through electrostatic interaction.

Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common type of arthritis. The prevalence and the incidence of OA have been continuously growing along with increased life expectancy and the emerging problem of an aging population around the global. Reported findings have confirmed that osteoarthritis is a chronic inflammatory disease and its major risk factors included genetic susceptibility, aging, and environmental factors.

Background: Menstrual cycle length (MCL) and ovarian response varies widely among women of childbearing age. They are provided with anti-Mu¨llerian hormone (AMH) cutoffs for "normal" and "weakened" ovarian responses, which give an early warning of the onset of decreased ovarian response.

Methods: This was a retrospective study in women aged 21 to 35 years with MCLs of 21-35 days receiving in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment at Center for Reproductive Medicine from October 2018 to October 2021.

Three-dimensional (3D) hollow photoactive nanomaterials can enhance light capture due to the light scattering benefiting from the unique hollow nanostructures, which contributes to the decrease in energy loss and the electron-hole recombination during the process of photoelectric conversion. Herein, a 3D hollow HCdS@Au nanosphere synthesized by the templated-assisted method and photodeposition is employed to construct a multimodal sensing platform by combining the photoelectrochemical (PEC) biosensor with colorimetric analysis and photothermal imaging. In the presence of target carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), a sandwich structure is formed on magnetic beads based on the dual-aptamer recognition, followed by the initiation of rolling circle amplification (RCA) to bind numerous CuO-DNA probes.

Background: Post-laminar optic nerve invasion (PLONI) is a high-risk factor for the metastasis of retinoblastoma (RB). Unlike conventional MRI, diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) reflects histopathological features, and may aid the assessment of PLONI.

Purpose: To determine the value of conventional MRI plus DWI in detecting PLONI in RB patients.

Background: Type 3 fibroids are a special subtype of intramural fibroids that are likely to affect the pregnancy outcomes of assisted reproductive techniques. Hysteroscopic resection is a treatment for type 3 fibroids, but there has few study of its efficacy to date. In this study we evaluated the effect of hysteroscopic resection of type 3 fibroids on the pregnancy outcomes in infertile women.

Intraorbital wooden foreign bodies (IOWFBs) constitute a relatively rare ocular trauma, which occupy a special type of intraorbital foreign bodies (IOFBs). Data regarding IOWFBs must be obtained from case reports or small case series due to their rarity. Here, we reported 5 cases of IOWFBs and reviewed the related literatures, which could provide comprehensive information regarding the clinical manifestations, diagnosis, and surgical treatment of IOWFBs.

Article Synopsis
  • This study explored the link between soybean product consumption and the risk of developing hypertension in a large group of Chinese adults.
  • Researchers divided participants into two groups based on their consumption levels (≥ 125 g/day considered "ideal") and found that those in the ideal group had a significantly lower risk of hypertension.
  • The findings suggest that incorporating more soybean products in the diet may help lower blood pressure and reduce hypertension risk, highlighting potential public health benefits for hypertension prevention.
