Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the effects of Zhongfeng capsule on proteins related to autophagy in rats suffering from cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury (CI/RI), aiming to understand its protective mechanisms for neural health.
  • A total of 60 male SD rats were divided into different treatment groups, including a sham operation group and various Zhongfeng capsule dosage groups, and were treated by gavage for 10 days before their brain tissue was analyzed.
  • Results showed that the high-dose Zhongfeng capsule group led to improved body weight, reduced neurological deficit scores, and alleviated brain tissue damage compared to the model group, indicating potential neuroprotective effects of the capsule.

In the present study, we firstly compared rat intestinal α-glucosidase inhibitory activity by different ethanol-aqueous extractions from the dried fruits of Terminalia chebula Retz. The enzymatic assay showed that the 80% ethanol extract was more potent against maltase activity than both 50% and 100% ethanol extracts. By HPLC analysis, it was determined that the 80% ethanol extract had a higher content of chebulagic acid than each of 50% or 100% ethanol extract.
