An electrochemical method has been developed to achieve arylation of electron-deficient arenes through reductive activation. Various electron-deficient arenes and aryldiazonium tetrafluoroborates are amenable to this transformation within the conditions of an undivided cell, providing the desired products in up to 92 % yield. Instead of preparing diazonium reagents, these reactions can begin from anilines, and they can be carried out in one pot.

Modern particle-based simulations increasingly incorporate polarization charges arising from spatially nonuniform permittivity. For complex dielectric geometries, calculation of these induced many-body effects typically requires numerical solvers based upon boundary-element methods, which very significantly increase the required computational effort. For the special case of dielectric spheres, such as colloids or nanoparticles, we recently proposed a semianalytical spectrally accurate hybrid method that combines the method of moments, the image-charge method, and the fast multipole method.

Coke oven emissions (COEs) are common particle pollutants in occupational environment and the major constituents of COEs are polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). Previously, we identified aberrant methylation of the fms related tyrosine kinase 1 (FLT1) gene over the course of benzo(a)pyrene (BaP)-induced cell transformation via genome-wide methylation array. To quantify FLT1 methylation, we established a bisulfite pyrosequencing assay and examined the FLT1 hypermethylation in several human cancers.

Background: The MRD status detected using multiparameter flow cytometry (MFC) before allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) has crucial prognostic value for patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) in morphologic complete remission (CR). We designed a novel panel of antibodies to identify aberrant differentiation/maturation profiles of residual leukemia cells in patients who were not diagnosed at our institution, relapsed with an antigenic shift, or lack leukemia-associated immunophenotypes.

Methods: We compared the MRD status detected using MFC and real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) in the same 158 bone marrow samples collected from 44 AML patients carrying leukemia-specific fusion genes.

In this study, pragmatic prospection of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) is conducted considering their impacts on Cd transformation, microbial activity and natural organic matter (NOM) in sediments. Indeed, dose-dependent of MWCNTs acceleration in Cd sedimentation and immobilization in water-sediment interface has been found. Unexpectedly, even with the reduced Cd bioavailability, high ratios of MWCNTs incorporation led to exacerbated microbial inactivation.

Norovirus (NoV), a major food-borne virus, causes non-bacterial acute gastroenteritis in humans. Berries are generally harvested from low-growing bushes by hand and are minimally processed before being sold to consumers. Therefore, the consumption of berries has been linked to numerous food-borne gastroenteritis outbreaks caused by NoV in many countries.

We investigate mode-coupling effects of terahertz whispering-gallery modes (WGMs) in a multi-mode resonator using an extended transfer matrix method. Coupling effects between two WGMs are successfully observed on a well-designed high-Q terahertz Teflon ring resonator that supports low-order WGMs. The extended transmission matrix method is adopted to model, analyze, and reproduce terahertz single-band resonance and asymmetric dual-band resonances caused by mode coupling.

Oxidative stress plays a crucial role in the pathogenesis of diabetic vascular complications. It is known that the accumulation of advanced glycation end products (AGEs) and the activation of the receptor of AGEs (RAGE) induce sustained oxidative stress in the vascular tissue. Growing evidence indicates that glycine, the simplest amino acid, exerts antioxidant and antiglycation effects and also improves vascular function.

In this work, a novel exponential-type Barrier Lyapunov Function (EBLF) is proposed to address the synchronization control issue for a class of bilateral teleoperation systems with system uncertainties, external disturbances, and constraint requirement. The most prominent feature of the EBLF is that it can be used in a unified scheme, which deals with full state constrained and output constrained problems. Moreover, a novel control strategy is incorporated with the EBLF to achieve fixed-time convergence into a small set while the synchronization position tracking errors are guaranteed to never exceed the predefined constraints through the "adding a power integrator" technique, and the estimated settling time is shown to be independent of initial values.

Laparoscopy-assisted distal gastrectomy (LADG) is a complicated procedure. To reduce the difficulty of the operation and standardize the surgical procedure, we explored a new operation mode, which we termed modularized LADG (MLADG). To further extend the new operation mode, we conducted this study to evaluate the short-term outcomes of MLADG for advanced gastric cancer, and determine the learning curve.

Aims/introduction: We have previously reported that glycine suppresses the advanced glycation end-products signaling pathway and mitigates subsequent oxidative stress in the kidneys of diabetic rats. In the present study, we investigated whether this beneficial effect was associated with upregulation of glyoxalase-1 (Glo1) and activation of the nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2).

Materials And Methods: Both healthy rats and streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats were administrated with glycine (1% added to the drinking water) for 12 weeks.

SOX4 is highly expressed in gastric cancer (GC) and is associated with tumor grade, metastasis and prognosis, however the mechanism is not clear. We report herein that SOX4 was upregulated and overexpression of SOX4 was associated with increased expression of the markers of Epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) and stemness in clinic patient samples. In vitro, overexpression of SOX4 promoted the invasion as showed by Transwell assay and stemness of GC cells as assessed by sphere formation assay, which was suppressed by silencing SOX4 with shRNA.
