The doxorubicin (DOX) uptake in single human leukemia K562 cells with changes in both drug dosage and exposure period was studied using capillary electrophoresis (CE) coupled with laser-induced fluorescence (LIF) detection. The cells were treated with DOX at different concentrations (1, 3, 10, 20, 30, and 50 μM) and for different exposure times (1, 3, 5, 24, and 48 h). At least 20 cells were analyzed for each DOX-treated cell population.

A 33-year-old Chinese man with short bowel syndrome received intestinal rehabilitation therapy. We observed microscopically morphologic changes of remnant small intestine by magnifying endoscopy and histopathologic examination before and after 3 courses of treatment. The results revealed that the 2 methods have a fairly good correlativity, and magnifying endoscopy examination of intestinal adaptation in patients with short bowel syndrome possesses great applicative value.

The reversible phase transition between (4×1) and (5×1) is controlled by adjusting the surface metal concentration [Sr] or [Ti]. Resolving the atomic structures of the surface, DFT calculations verify that the phase stability changes upon the chemical potential of Sr or Ti.

Objective: To compare oncologic outcomes between doublet and triplet adjuvant chemotherapy for gastric cancer patients undergoing radical resection.
Methods: Patients with gastric cancer receiving adjuvant chemotherapy after radical resection from January 2004 to December 2008 were included. Doublet was defined as 5-FU 750 mg/m² (days 1-5) or capecitabine 1000 mg/m² (days 1-14) plus cisplatin 60 mg/m² (day 1) or oxaliplatin 130 mg/m² (day 1), while triplets had epirubicin 50 mg/m² (day 1) added.

In this article, we report that the origins of 1/f noise in pm-Si:H film resistors are inhomogeneity and defective structure. The results obtained are consistent with Hooge's formula, where the noise parameter, αH, is independent of doping ratio. The 1/f noise power spectral density and noise parameter αH are proportional to the squared value of temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR).

Objective: To explore the biological function and molecular mechanism of membrane associated guanylate kinase, WW and PDZ domain containing 1 (MAGI1) in hepatocellular carcinoma.
Methods: HepG2(MAGI1) stable cell line was constructed by transfecting HepG2 cells with pcDNA3.1-MAGI1 plasmid.
In this work, the nanoscale footprints of self-driven liquid gallium droplet movement on a GaAs (001) surface will be presented and analyzed. The nanoscale footprints of a primary droplet trail and ordered secondary droplets along primary droplet trails are observed on the GaAs surface. A well ordered nanoterrace from the trail is left behind by a running droplet.

Similar levels of PM(2.5) concentration measured at both sites seem to confirm that the fine particles have emerged as a major regional pollution issue.

Self-running droplets by thermal evaporation GaAs (001) surface are studied and analyzed using a scanning electron microscope. The sample is prepared under high-temperature annealing in an ultrahigh vacuum molecular beam epitaxy system. Particularly, secondary droplets which formed along primary droplet running trails are investigated.

A number of BCG strains are in use, and they exhibit biochemical and genetic differences. We report the genome sequences of four BCG strains representing different lineages, which will help to design more effective TB vaccines.

Conversely, an augmented immune response can be protective against microbial pathogens and in cancer immunotherapy. Yet, small-molecule screens to identify agents that induce endothelial cell activation have not been reported.

These lineage-specific molecular programs are instructive to the development of distinct vascular architectures and physiological conditions of arteries and veins, but their roles in angiogenesis remain unexplored. Here, we show that the caudal vein plexus in zebrafish forms by endothelial cell sprouting, migration and anastomosis, providing a venous-specific angiogenesis model.

However, the mechanisms by which OPN promotes tumor metastasis remain unclear. In this study, we aimed to investigate the anti-tumor effects of OPN by silencing OPN expression in the gastric cancer cell line SGC7901, using lentiviral-OPN small interfering RNA (siRNA) technology.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA library of 91 heterocyclic compounds composed of 16 distinct scaffolds has been synthesized through a sequence of phosphine-catalyzed ring-forming reactions, Tebbe reactions, Diels-Alder reactions, and, in some cases, hydrolysis. This effort in diversity-oriented synthesis produced a collection of compounds that exhibited high levels of structural variation both in terms of stereochemistry and the range of scaffolds represented. A simple but powerful sequence of reactions thus led to a high-diversity library of relatively modest size with which to explore biologically relevant regions of chemical space.

Methods: A case-control study of 1139 asbestos workers identified 41 male lung cancer cases in 2001; each case was matched by age (±5 years) with five controls. Workers in seven workshops were categorised into high-, medium- and low-exposure subgroups, and conditional logistic regression was applied to estimate the odds ratios for lung cancer risk associated with the different exposure levels.

Objective: To investigate the role of histone deacetylase 7 (HDAC7) in the occurrence and development of hepatocellular carcinoma.
Methods: HepG2 cells and human microvascular endothelial cells (HMEC-1) were divided into 3 groups after transfection pSUPER-HDAC7 retroviral interference plasmid: a pSUPER(HDAC7RNAi+) group, a pSUPER(HDAC7RNAi-) group, and a pSUPER group as the control group. The expression of HDAC7, p21, cyclin E, matrix metalloproteinases 10 (MMP10), and hypoxiainducible factor-1alpha (HIF-1alpha) were detected by Western blot.
A model has been developed to simulate the growth of arrays consisting of a substrate on which alternating layers of quantum dots (QDs) and spacer layers are epitaxially grown. The substrate and spacer layers are modeled as an anisotropic elastic half-space, and the QDs are modeled as point inclusions buried within the half-space. In this model, the strain at the free surface of this half-space due to the buried point QDs is calculated, and a scalar measure of the strain at the surface is subsequently determined.
