Atypical teratoid rhabdoid tumor (AT/RT) is a rare embryonal central nervous system tumor with a dismal prognosis that occurs mostly in early childhood. Since recent epidemiological and prognostic information is limited, we aimed to describe and analyze AT/RT-related incidences, temporal trends and prognostic factors. Incidence and survival data between 2001 and 2021 were extracted from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database.

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) threatens public health, necessitating urgent efforts to mitigate the global impact of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs). Anaerobic digestion (AD), known for volatile solid reduction and energy generation, also presents a feasible approach for the removal of ARGs. This review encapsulates the existing understanding of ARGs and antibiotic-resistant bacteria (ARB) during the AD process, highlighting unresolved challenges pertaining to their detection and quantification.

This study applied cumulative sum (CUSUM) analysis to evaluate trends in operative time and blood loss, It aims to identify key milestones in mastering extraperitoneal single-site robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy (ss-RARP). A cohort of 100 patients who underwent ss-RARP, performed by a single surgeon at the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University between March 2021 and June 2023, was retrospectively analyzed. To evaluate the learning curve, the CUSUM (Cumulative Sum Control Chart) technique was applied, revealing the progression and variability over time.

Objective: Mycoplasmas are structurally simple pathogenic microorganisms that can cause a wide range of diseases in humans and animals and conventional antibiotic therapies of fluoroquinolones and tetracyclines are toxic to young children and young animals and macrolide resistance is increasing. In this context, new anti-mycoplasma antimicrobial agents need to be developed. 22-((4-((4-nitrophenyl)acetamido)phenyl)thio)deoxypleuromutilin (compound 16C) is a novel acetamine phenyl pleuromutilin derivative.

Soft robots based on actuators that can work in both on-ground and on-water situations are environmentally adaptable and can accomplish tasks in complex environments. However, most current amphibious actuators need external stimuli to move on water and require complex preparation processes. Herein, amphibious Ink-paper/polyethylene programmable actuators and robots are proposed, which are fabricated by rapidly brushing Chinese ink on paper.

Background: TNF-related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL) belongs to the tumor necrosis factor superfamily. TRAIL selectively induces apoptosis in tumor cells while sparing normal cells, which makes it an attractive candidate for cancer therapy. Recombinant soluble TRAIL and agonistic antibodies against TRAIL receptors have demonstrated safety and tolerability in clinical trials.

Background: Uncommon EGFR mutations are a kind of heterogeneous group of mutations with various responses to EGFR-TKIs and are often excluded from most prospective clinical trials. In this real-world retrospective study, we retrospectively compared the efficacy and safety of chemotherapy or various generations of EGFR-TKIs as first-line therapy in NSCLC Chinese patients harboring non-ex 20 ins uncommon EGFR mutations.

Methods: We enrolled 139 NSCLC patients with non-ex 20 ins uncommon EGFR mutations in this study retrospectively.

To address the limitations of traditional cardiovascular disease prediction models in capturing dynamic changes and personalized differences in patients, we propose a novel LGAP model based on time-series data analysis. This model integrates Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) networks, Graph Neural Networks (GNN), and Multi-Head Attention mechanisms. By combining patients' time-series data (such as medical records, physical parameters, and activity data) with relationship graph data, the model effectively identifies patient behavior patterns and their interrelationships, thereby improving the accuracy and generalization of cardiovascular disease risk prediction.

Article Synopsis
  • The classical acid growth theory posits that auxin promotes cell expansion by acidifying the apoplast through the action of plasma membrane-localized H-ATPase.
  • Comparative phylogenomic analysis indicates that the essential elements of this process originated in Charophyta algae and evolved with functional innovations during the transition of plants to land.
  • Despite lacking the typical auxin receptors like TIR1/AFB, the presence of auxin still resulted in significant growth and gene expression changes, suggesting an ancient growth mechanism evolved for terrestrial adaptation.

  • The study examined how different types of chronic pain and pain medications affect telomere length using Mendelian randomization methods.
  • Key findings showed that hip pain and stomach/abdominal pain positively correlated with telomere length, while tramadol had a negative association.
  • The results may inform better treatment options for chronic pain and reduce the reliance on potentially harmful analgesics.

  • * A total of 42 VOCs were identified, mainly consisting of aldehydes and ketones, with higher oxidation temperatures and durations leading to increased VOC production, peaking at 175 °C for 60 minutes.
  • * Results indicated that PE (16:0-18:2) and PC (16:0-18:2) generated more VOCs than PC (16:0-18:1), with the presence of polyunsaturated fatty acids making them more prone

Plant viruses rely on host factors for successful infection. Non-specific lipid transfer proteins (nsLTPs) play critical roles in plant-pathogen interactions; however, their functions and underlying molecular mechanisms in viral infections remain largely unknown. Jasmonic acid (JA) is a crucial regulatory hormone in the process of plant resistance to viral infection.

  • Thermal management is a key issue in electric design, especially for compact electronic systems, and this study introduces a bionic skin model that mimics human skin to regulate temperature effectively.
  • The artificial skin features phase change material nanoparticles in a thin matrix on a metallic surface, enabling it to maintain a stable temperature around 340 K despite varying external heat conditions.
  • The design also includes a plasmonic surface made of silver nanocubes to enhance visible light properties while retaining infrared functionality, providing a cost-effective solution for advanced thermal management in robotics and similar technologies.

  • - Laser welding of unequal thickness stainless steel and low-carbon steel was studied, focusing on how varying laser power affects the weld's properties and stress levels.
  • - Increased laser power leads to better weld formability but alters stress distribution, with tensile stresses in stainless steel and compressive stresses in the low-carbon base metal.
  • - The optimal welding conditions were found at 1200 W laser power, resulting in improved mechanical properties and minimized residual stress, with notable values for microhardness, tensile strength, and stress levels.

  • Aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) is a harmful mycotoxin that damages the intestine, and the study focuses on how Lactobacillus amylovorus-QC1H-derived extracellular vesicles (LA.EVs) can protect against this damage.
  • The research isolated LA-QC1H from pig feces, and found that LA.EVs helped reduce inflammation, improve intestinal barrier function, and restore gut microbiota in mice affected by AFB1.
  • The protective effects of LA.EVs were linked to activating specific signaling pathways (AHR/IL-22), but they were not effective in mice treated with antibiotics, indicating the importance of gut microbiota in their function.

Background: Primary skull base chondrosarcoma (SBC) is a rare malignant central nervous system tumor, often involving the cavernous sinus. Complete excision of tumors invading this region is exceptionally challenging due to the presence of the internal carotid artery and numerous nerves within the cavernous sinus, particularly in cases with substantial tumor volume.

Case Presentation: This report describes a rare case of a massive primary SBC pushing the lateral wall of the cavernous sinus, measuring approximately 6.
