Article Synopsis
  • The study analyzed the clinical profiles and outcomes of 554 adult patients with acute dacryocystitis (AD) in China over 10 years, focusing on endoscopic dacryocystorhinostomy (En-DCR) management.
  • The patient group comprised mostly females with a median age of 55.2 years, and many had prior episodes or complications before surgery.
  • Results indicated that En-DCR had high anatomical and functional success rates of 91.7% and 90.1%, respectively, even when performed during acute episodes, albeit slightly lower success in patients with previous issues.

Aim: To explore the combined application of surgical navigation nasal endoscopy (NNE) and three-dimensional printing technology (3DPT) for the adjunctive treatment of orbital blowout fractures (OBF).

Methods: Retrospective analysis was conducted on the data of patients with OBF who underwent surgical treatment at the Affiliated Eye Hospital of Nanchang University between July 2012 and November 2022. The control group consisted of patients who received traditional surgical treatment (=43), while the new surgical group (=52) consisted of patients who received NNE with 3DPT.

Objective: This study aims to explore the impact of nano-hydroxyapatite (na-HA) and micron-hydroxyapatite (mi-HA) on human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC) using in vitro experiments, assessing their influence on cellular biological activity. These findings offer crucial experimental data for informing the development of more vascularized tissue-engineered bone constructs.

Methods: We employed the Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK-8) assay to assess the impact of various concentrations of both HA extracts on HUVEC metabolic activity post 48, 72, and 96 h of treatment.

Aim: To evaluate the outcome of endoscopic dacryocystorhinostomy (En-DCR) with mucosal anastomosis in chronic dacryocystitis patients, with various categories of ethmoid sinuses.

Methods: Between July 2015 and September 2019, 1439 adult patients, representing 1623 affected eyes, presented with chronic dacryocystitis and were scheduled for En-DCR. The categories of ethmoid sinuses were preoperatively determined, using computed tomography-dacryocystography (CT-DCG), and were classified as category 1 (C1), category 2 (C2), and category 3 (C3).

Objective: To explore the feasibility of navigation-guided sinus endoscopy to remove the cavernous vascular malformation of the orbital apex through the sphenoid approach.

Methods: A retrospective series of non-control cases were collected. From May 2012 to December 2019, patients with imaging findings of cavernous venous malformation in the orbital apex were collected at the Eye Hospital Affiliated to Nanchang University.

Rapid and user-friendly diagnostic tests are necessary for early diagnosis and immediate detection of diseases, particularly for on-site screening of pathogenic microorganisms in aquaculture. In this study, we developed a dual-sample microfluidic chip integrated with a real-time fluorogenic loop-mediated isothermal amplification assay (dual-sample on-chip LAMP) to simultaneously detect 10 pathogenic microorganisms, that is Aeromonas hydrophila, Edwardsiella tarda, Vibrio harveyi, V. alginolyticus, V.

Aim: To investigate the effect of repair materials for orbital blowout fractures on the occurrence of postoperative complications.

Methods: The clinical data and follow-up data of 54 subjects with orbital blowout fractures were retrospectively analyzed. The study was divided into three groups according to the used repair materials: titanium mesh (16 cases), Medpor (12 cases), and Medpor titanium mesh (26 cases).

Plastic debris in the oceans is a major and growing problem in global environmental pollution. There are increasing concerns that plastic debris is a source of contaminant, either added during manufacturing or adsorbed from the environment. However, there is little information about the acute toxicity of leachates from plastic debris on marine organisms.

Genetic disorders greatly impact human life. Nursing staffs should provide counseling and health education before and after patients receive genetic testing. Current attitudes toward women who receive genetic tests emphasize respect patient autonomy and allowing the patient to make her own decisions regarding the tests she wants to take and her reproductive planning.

The combined use of batifiban, a synthetic platelet GPII b/ IIIa receptor antagonist, and antithrombin agents is an attractive option for the treatment of patients with non-ST-segment elevation (NSTE) acute coronary syndrome (ACS) and those scheduled for percutaneous coronary intervention. To observe whether antithrombin agents affect the pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties of batifiban in combination therapy and optimize clinical administration dosage of batifiban, an open-label and parallel study was conducted. Thirty healthy subjects were randomly divided into three groups, which were sequentially treated with batifiban alone, or oral coadministration of clopidogrel, aspirin and UFH, or batifiban coadministered with these antithrombin agents.
