Highly ordered mesoporous graphitic carbon was synthesized from a simple surfactant-assisted nanocasting route, in which ordered mesoporous silica SBA-15 maintaining its triblock copolymer surfactant was used as a hard template and natural soybean oil (SBO) as a carbon precursor. The hydrophobic domain of the surfactant assisted SBO in infiltration into the template's mesoporous channels. After the silica template was carbonized and removed, a higher yield of highly-ordered graphitic mesoporous carbon with rod-like morphology was obtained.

The photocatalytic performance of bulk graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) is usually limited by its low surface area and rapid charge carrier recombination. To develop g-C3N4 more suitable for photocatalysis, researchers have to enlarge its surface area and accelerate the charge carrier separation.

Therefore, we performed a meta-analysis of prospective or retrospective cohort studies to assess the potential relationship between diabetes and vertebral fracture.
Methods: We searched medical databases for prospective or retrospective cohort studies on the association between diabetes and vertebral fracture risk.
Recently, deregulated microRNA (miRNA) expression contributes to the development and progression of human glioblastoma. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the level of miR-154 and Wnt5a in glioblastoma tissues and cells. We further investigated the molecular mechanisms of miR-154 and Wnt5a in glioblastoma cell lines.

The proband's LPL level after injection of heparin was measured at 184 U/L, considerably lower than the normal controls (382 U/L). Furthermore, LPL activity in the proband was 16.

Bis (2, 3-dibromo-4, 5-dihydroxybenzyl) ether (BDDE), a novel bromophenol isolated from the Red Alga, is a novel PTP1B inhibitor. But the anti-diabetic effects are not clear.

Methods: In 2014, a total of 44 patients with an initial diagnosis of primary trigeminal neuralgia were consecutively recruited for surgery. And 41 of them with an intraoperative confirmation of primary trigeminal neuralgia underwent MVD.
Glomerular hypertrophy and extracellular matrix accumulation are early features of diabetic nephropathy (DN). High glucose-induced oxidative stress is implicated in the etiology of DN. This study aims to investigate the effect of eleutheroside E (EE) on high glucose mediated rat mesangial cells (MCs) proliferation and monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1) expression and the underlying mechanism.

Background: Previous studies have suggested a possible association between hyperuricemia and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), but the risk of NAFLD in individuals with hyperuricemia had not been fully quantified. A systematic review and meta-analysis of relevant studies was carried out to estimate the influence of hyperuricemia on the risk of NAFLD.
Methods: PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and Wanfang databases were searched for cohort or cross-sectional studies assessing the association between hyperuricemia and NAFLD.
Context: Individualized management, incorporating papillary thyroid cancer (PTC) variant-specific risk, is conceivably a useful treatment strategy for PTC, which awaits comprehensive data demonstrating differential risks of PTC variants to support.
Objective: This study sought to establish the differential clinicopathological risk of major PTC variants: conventional PTC (CPTC), follicular-variant PTC (FVPTC), and tall-cell PTC (TCPTC).
Methods: This was a retrospective study of clinicopathological outcomes of 6282 PTC patients (4799 females and 1483 males) from 26 centers and The Cancer Genome Atlas in 14 countries with a median age of 44 years (interquartile range, 33-56 y) and median follow-up time of 37 months (interquartile range, 15-82 mo).
Novel mesoporous N-doped CeO2 has been prepared via a simple urea-assisted template method using cerium nitrate as precursor. The synthesized mesoporous N-doped CeO2 applied as an adsorbent exhibits significantly enhanced CO2 adsorption performance compared with undoped mesoporous CeO2.

We investigate the relationships of pancreatic β-cell function and insulin resistance with microalbuminuria in a cross-sectional study of patients with type 2 diabetes. The study suggests insulin resistance is associated with an increased prevalence of microalbuminuria, while improved pancreatic β-cell function is linked to decreased rates of microalbuminuria for those patients.

Methods: Application of randomized double-blind and placebo-controlled methods. A total of 136 normotensive patients with early type 2 DN and SCH (TSH 4.
Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the long-term effective control of serum uric acid by allopurinol on the carotid intima-media thickness (IMT) in patients with type 2 diabetes (T2DM) and asymptomatic hyperuricemia (HUA).
Methods: This was a randomized open parallel-controlled study. In this study, 176 patients with T2DM and asymptomatic HUA were randomly allocated to the conventional or allopurinol treatment groups on the basis of a computer-generated random number table.
MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are a class of noncoding RNAs that mainly negatively regulate gene expression. miRNAs have important roles in many diseases, including inflammatory diseases. Gout is a common arthritis caused by deposition of monosodium urate crystals within joints.

IM program applies the IM model to genetic data drawn from a pair of closely related populations or species based on Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) simulations of gene genealogies. But computational burden of IM program has placed limits on its application.

The association between Alzheimer's disease and uric acid levels had gained great interest in recent years, but there was still lack of definite evidence. A systematic review and meta-analysis of relevant studies was performed to comprehensively estimate the association. Relevant studies published before October 26, 2014, were searched in PubMed, Embase, and China Biology Medicine (CBM) databases.

Methods: The trial which was conducted at 13 centers in China during 2011-2013 included a 2-week run-in and a 24-week treatment period. A total of 504 eligible participants with gout and with serum urate ≥ 480 μmol/L were randomly assigned 1 : 1 : 1 to febuxostat 40 mg/day, febuxostat 80 mg/day and allopurinol 300 mg/day groups.

Graphited carbon nitride materials (g-C3N4) with high visble-light response were synthesized by thermal condensation of melamine at varied temperature. The microstructure and optical property of as achieved catalysts were investigated by XRD, SEM and UV-Vis techniques, respectively. Moreover, rhodamine B solution was applied to measure the catalytical performance under the irradiation of different sources of light.

Objective: Resveratrol has been shown to exert anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects, while sodium alginate is a common pharmaceutic adjuvant with antioxidative and immunomodulatory properties. We performed an animal study to investigate the effect of sodium alginate addition to resveratrol on acute gouty arthritis.
Methods: Twenty-four SPF Wistar mice were randomized to four groups receiving the combination of sodium alginate and resveratrol, resveratrol alone, colchicine, and placebo, respectively.
Gout is one of the most common types of inflammatory arthritis, caused by the deposition of monosodium urate crystals in and around the joints. Previous genome-wide association studies (GWASs) have identified many genetic loci associated with raised serum urate concentrations. However, hyperuricemia alone is not sufficient for the development of gout arthritis.
