Primary sludge can serve as an internal carbon source for denitrification in wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs). This study explores the use of alkaline treatment to produce a fermentation broth from primary sludge, which predominantly contains short-chain volatile fatty acids (VFAs), with acetic acid and propionic acid making up over 65% of the total VFAs. The performance of this fermentation broth as a sole carbon source for denitrification was compared with that of sodium acetate, acetic acid, methanol, and ethanol in both biofilm and activated sludge systems.

Background: Jujube is a homologous herb of medicine and food, and polyphenols are key in determining the functional effects of jujubes.

Methods: In this study, characteristic polyphenols in 15 varieties of Chinese jujubes were investigated based on untargeted metabolomics.

Results: The results showed that a total of 79 characteristic polyphenols were identified in the 15 varieties of Chinese jujube, and 55 characteristic polyphenols such as syringetin, spinosin and kaempferol were reported for the first time.

Here, we aimed to screen out HAIC resistance-related bile microRNAs (miRNAs) and explore the functions of specific bile miRNAs in pCCA based on high-throughput sequencing. Objective: To investigate the spatial distribution characteristics of alterations in spontaneous brain activity in severe traumatic brain injury (sTBI) patients with disorders of consciousness (DOC), based on the mesocircuit theoretical framework, and to establish models for predicting recovery of consciousness.

Methods: Resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging was employed to measure the mean fractional amplitude of low-frequency fluctuations (mfALFF) in sTBI patients with DOC and healthy controls, identifying differential brain regions for conducting gene and functional decoding analyses.
