Article Synopsis
  • A study was conducted across nine Chinese cities between 2018 and 2019 to analyze levels of endocrine-like phthalate esters (PAEs) in household dust using Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry, collecting 246 dust samples and related data through questionnaires.
  • The results showed that total PAE concentrations varied significantly, with Dicyclohexyl phthalate (DCHP) and di (2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) being the most prevalent, and children were found to be at higher risk due to dust ingestion compared to inhalation, particularly highlighting the carcinogenic risks associated with DEHP.
  • The study concluded that higher PAE concentrations were linked to various residential

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates changes in specific back muscles and their fatty infiltration in patients with lumbar disc herniation (LDH) who underwent acupuncture treatment, comparing results with those receiving traditional rehabilitation.
  • A total of 332 adult patients were assessed using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and pain/function scores before and after treatment, with significant improvements seen in the acupuncture group compared to rehabilitation at the 3-month mark.
  • Findings highlight that acupuncture not only increases muscle size and decreases fatty infiltration but also leads to greater pain relief and functional improvement over time, suggesting it may be a more effective treatment option for LDH.

Background: The aim of this study was to evaluate the inter-fraction reproducibility and intra-fraction stability of breast radiotherapy using voluntary deep-inspiration breath hold (DIBH) and free breathing (FB) based on an optical surface imaging system (OSIS).

Methods: Seventeen patients (510 breath-hold sessions) treated using a field-in-field (FiF) technique and twenty patients (600 breath-free sessions) treated with a volume-modulated arc therapy (VMAT) technique were included in this retrospective study. All the patients were positioned with the guidance of CBCT and OSIS, and also monitored with OSIS throughout the whole treatment session.

Background: Stable angina pectoris (SAP), as a common type of coronary heart disease (CHD), is characterized by transient retrosternal squeezing pain or suffocation induced by exercise, mood swings, or other stress. Most patients with stable angina pectoris do not benefit from interventional therapy and medication, so optimizing treatment plans has important clinical significance. Jiuxin pill is a Chinese patent medicine developed by Huatuo Chinese Medicine Co.

The heart is a multicellular system, and the intercellular crosstalk mechanism is very important for the growth and development of the heart and even the organs, tissues, and cells at a distance. As a kind of extracellular vesicle, exosomes are released by different types of cells and can carry specific genetic material, endosomal proteins, cytokines, etc., which are the main material basis for mediating cell crosstalk mechanism.

Background: Magnetic resonance-guided adaptive radiotherapy (MRgART) at MR-Linac allows for plan optimisation on the MR-based synthetic CT (sCT) images, adjusting the target and organs at risk according to the patient's daily anatomy. Conversely, conventional linac image-guided radiotherapy (IGRT) involves rigid realignment of regions of interest to the daily anatomy, followed by the delivery of the reference computed tomography (CT) plan. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of MRgART versus IGRT for rectal cancer patients undergoing short-course radiotherapy, while also assessing the dose accumulation process to support the findings and determine its usefulness in enhancing treatment accuracy.

Article Synopsis
  • The study focuses on pyroptosis (a type of programmed cell death) in heart failure, highlighting how factors like angiotensin II and growth factors trigger this process through the NF-κB signaling pathway.
  • It reviews significant discoveries in pyroptosis research since 1986 and contrasts it with other cell death forms such as apoptosis and autophagy.
  • The research also outlines therapeutic strategies to inhibit NF-κB, aiming to offer insights for developing new treatments for heart failure.

Depression is a growing public health concern, and exercise is an adjunctive treatment modality to improve depression, but the optimal form of exercise and the optimal dose are still unclear. This systematic review examined the efficacy of four major types of exercise (aerobic, resistance, mixed, and mind-body) on depression, as well as the dose-response relationship between total and specific exercise and depressive symptoms. We included randomized controlled trials that included participants aged 18 years or older with a diagnosis of major depressive disorder or a depressive symptom score above a threshold as determined by a validated screening measure, implemented one or more exercise therapy groups, and assessed depressive symptoms at baseline and follow-up.

The discovery of regulatory cell death processes has driven innovation in cardiovascular disease (CVD) therapeutic strategies. Over the past decade, ferroptosis, an iron-dependent form of regulated cell death driven by excessive lipid peroxidation, has been shown to drive the development of multiple CVDs. This review provides insights into the evolution of the concept of ferroptosis, the similarities and differences with traditional modes of programmed cell death (e.

Objective: Exploring the effect of Optimized New Shengmai powder (, ONSMP) on myocardial fibrosis in heart failure (HF) based on rat sarcoma (RAS)/rapidly accelerated fibrosarcoma (RAF)/mitogen-activated protein kinase kinase (MEK)/extracellular regulated protein kinases (ERK) signaling pathway.

Methods: Randomized 70 Sprague-Dawley rats into sham ( 10) and operation ( 60) groups, then established the HF rat by ligating the left anterior descending branch of the coronary artery. We randomly divided the operation group rats into the model, ONSMP [including low (L), medium (M), and high (H) dose], and enalapril groups.

Myocardial fibrosis is a significant pathological basis of heart failure. Overactivation of the ERK1/2 and JNK1/2 signaling pathways of MAPK family members synergistically promotes the proliferation of myocardial fibroblasts and accelerates the development of myocardial fibrosis. In addition to some small molecule inhibitors and Western drugs, many Chinese medicines can also inhibit the activity of ERK1/2 and JNK1/2, thus slowing down the development of myocardial fibrosis, and are generally safe and effective.

In magnetic resonance- (MR-) based adaptive workflows for an MR-linac, the treatment plan is optimized and recalculated online using the daily MR images. The Unity MR-linac is supplied with a patient positioning device (ppd) using pelvic and abdomen thermoplastic masks attached to a board with high-density components. This study highlights the dosimetric effect of using this in such workflows when there are relative patient-ppd displacements, as these are not visualized on MR imaging and the treatment planning system assumes the patient is fixed relative to the ppd.
