Background: Thoracoscopic segmentectomy is increasingly used in the surgical treatment of early-stage non-small cell lung cancer. However, it remains unclear whether pulmonary function loss after thoracoscopic lung resection is in direct proportion to the number of resected segments, and thus intentional thoracoscopic segmentectomy has the function-preserving advantage over thoracoscopic lobectomy.

Methods: In this prospective observational study, spirometry tests were performed preoperatively and 6 months postoperatively.

Oxytetracycline (OTC), one of the most important antibiotics in aquaculture industry, has been linked to emergence of antibiotic resistant genes in the aquatic environment. Given rapid growth of the aquaculture industry and unregulated use of antibiotics, it is necessary to implement measures to mitigate the impact of antibiotic resistance risk on environmental and human health. However, there is a lack of quantitative models to properly assess risk of antibiotic resistance associated with environmentally relevant antibiotic residues.

Background: Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the most common malignant tumors in the world. Despite great advances in medical technology, the survival rate of CRC patients is still extremely low, mainly due to recurrence and chemotherapy resistance. Therefore, it is particularly important to find valuable biomarkers to predict the prognosis of CRC.

Small ruminants farming plays an important role in the livelihood of a large part of the population. Herein we aimed to analyze the effects of single nucleotide polymorphisms in gene on the growth-related traits of Hu sheep and Dorper sheep. The body weight and body type of 1254 sheep were measured at 80, 100, 120, 140, 160 and 180d, and 37620 phenotypic data were collected.

Amorphous calcium carbonate (ACC) is widely known as a metastable precursor in the formation of crystalline calcium carbonate biominerals. However, the exact role of water during the crystallization of ACC remains elusive. Here, a novel ACC with high specific surface area and nanopores is synthesized by solvent-induced dehydration and amorphization of crystalline calcium carbonate hexahydrate (ikaite), denoted as I-ACC.

The release and sensation of sex pheromone play a role in the reproductive success of vertebrates including fish. Previous studies have shown that the weather loach perceives sex pheromones by olfaction to stimulate courtship behavior. It was speculated that weather loaches use smell to recognize intraspecific mates.

Microbial communities of the sheep rumen have been studied extensively; however, their involvement in the regulation of fat deposition is unknown. Herein, we aimed to identify the correlations among fat deposition-related phenotypes and the effect of microbiota on changes in body fat accumulation. The rumen microbiota of 141 lambs was profiled by 16S ribosomal RNA sequencing, and the volatile fatty acids' (VFAs') concentrations were quantified by gas chromatography.

The growth traits are economically important traits in sheep. Improving growth rates will increase the profitability of producers. The aim of this study was to identify alleles of (encoding T-cell surface glycoprotein CD8 beta chain) that are aberrantly expressed in different tissues and to assess the effects and associations of its different genotypes on weight and size traits in sheep.

This study aimed to analyze the effects of polymorphisms in on blood physiological indices of 1065 sheep. The coefficients of variation of the red blood cell count (RBC), hemoglobin concentration (HGB), mean platelet volume (MPV), mean erythrocyte hemoglobin content (MCH), and red blood cell distribution-coefficient of variation (RDW-CV) were greater than 10%, and there was a very significant correlation between the main indices such as RBC, white blood cell, and platelet count (PLT) and most other indices ( 0.01).

The olfactory organ is an important chemoreceptor in vertebrates. However, the sexual disparities in gene expression patterns in the olfactory organ in fish remain unstudied. Here, we conducted a transcriptome analysis of the olfactory epithelium (OE) of male and female blunt snout bream (Megalobrama amblycephala) to identify the differences.

The stereoselective biotransformation of methamphetamine (METH), as a chiral compound, during biological treatment in wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) is often ignored. In this study, a non-racemic form of METH was detected in the raw influent of a full-scale WWTP, with S-(+)-METH as the predominant enantiomer. Stereoselective biotransformation of METH in favor of S-(+)-METH occurred in anaerobic/anoxic and aerobic processes, resulting in the detection of R-(-)-METH as the only enantiomer in the secondary sedimentation tank.

Background: During the early stage of COVID-19 outbreak in China, most medical undergraduate programs have to eventually embrace the maneuver of transferring to nearly 100% online-learning as a new routine for different curricula. And there is a lack of empirical evidence of effective medical education curriculum that has been completely implemented in an online format. This study summarizes medical students' perspectives regarding online-learning experience during the COVID-19 outbreak and presents reflection on medical education.

Background And Aims: Approximately 3.5% of the global population is chronically infected with Hepatitis B Virus (HBV), which puts them at high risk of end-stage liver disease, with the risk of persistent infection potentiated by alcohol consumption. However, the mechanisms underlying the effects of alcohol on HBV persistence remain unclear.

Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a common malignant tumor with high rate of metastasis and recurrence. Although immune checkpoint blockade (ICB) has emerged as a promising type of immunotherapy in advanced HCC, treatment with ICB alone achieves an objective remission rate less than 20%. Thus, combination therapy strategies is needed to improve the treatment response rate and therapeutic effect.

Under the variant climate conditions in the transitional regions between tropics and subtropics, the impacts of climate factors on influenza subtypes have rarely been evaluated. With the available influenza A (Flu-A) and influenza B (Flu-B) outbreak data in Shenzhen, China, which is an excellent example of a transitional marine climate, the associations of multiple climate variables with these outbreaks were explored in this study. Daily laboratory-confirmed influenza virus and climate data were collected from 2009 to 2015.
