Schizophrenia (SCHZ), bipolar disorder (BD), and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) share clinical symptoms and risk genes, but the shared and distinct neural dynamic mechanisms remain inadequately understood. Degree is a fundamental and important graph measure in network neuroscience, and we here extended the degree to hierarchical levels based on eigenmodes and compared the resting-state brain networks of three disorders and healthy controls (HC). First, compared to HC, SCHZ and BD patients exhibited substantially overlapped abnormalities in brain networks, wherein BD patients displayed more significant alterations.

Vascular cognitive impairment and dementia (VCID), resulting from chronic cerebral hypoperfusion, represent the second most prevalent form of dementia globally. Aerobic exercise is widely acknowledged as an effective intervention for various cognitive disorders. This study utilized a bilateral common carotid artery stenosis (BCAS) model to investigate whether aerobic exercise promotes cognitive recovery through the Annexin-A1 (ANXA1)/mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) axis in BCAS mice.

Article Synopsis
  • This study tested rituximab (RTX) on patients with primary membranous nephropathy (PMN) who were dependent on calmodulin inhibitors (CNIs) and not fully in remission.
  • Among 36 patients, those who were drug-dependent showed a significant reduction in proteinuria and improved remission rates after 12 months of RTX therapy, with complete remission increasing from 10% to 70%.
  • The results indicated that RTX not only helped patients overcome CNI dependency but also led to significant immunological improvements while minimizing the risks of adverse effects.

Drug resistance is an important factor for prostate cancer (PCa) to progress into refractory PCa, and abnormal lipid metabolism usually occurs in refractory PCa, which presents great challenges for PCa therapy. Here, a cluster of differentiation 36 (CD36) inhibitor sulfosuccinimidyl oleate sodium (CD36i) and stearoyl-CoA desaturase 1 (SCD1) siRNA (siSCD1) are selected to inhibit lipid uptake and synthesis in PCa, respectively. To this end, a multiresponsive drug delivery nanosystem, HA@CD36i-TR@siSCD1 is designed.

The transcriptional regulatory factors binding to the polymorphic site C-1888T in the promoter region of the palate, lung, and nasal epithelium clone (PLUNC) gene were identified to investigate whether the C-1888T polymorphic site affects the transcriptional regulation and function of PLUNC gene. Three genotypes of C-1888T polymorphic locus were screened from established nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) cells, and the mRNA expression levels of PLUNC gene in different genotypes were detected. The respective transcription factors that were more likely to bind with A or G in SNP were predicted by biological information and preliminarily verified in vitro by gel electrophoresis migration rate analysis.

Objective: To evaluate the plasma levels of the otoconial proteins, otoconin-90 and otolin-1, in individuals diagnosed with vestibular neuritis (VN) and determine the feasibility of using these proteins as biomarkers for VN.

Methods: In this preliminary study, 30 patients diagnosed with VN and 70 healthy individuals were recruited and followed to confirm whether they had benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) during the following time. The recorded data included measurements of height, weight, and history of diabetes mellitus or hypertension.

Monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance (MGUS) is a pre-malignant condition of multiple myeloma (MM). Evidence suggested old age, black race, male gender, and obesity as risk factors for MGUS development; however, whether they are associated with an increased risk of progression to MM among patients with MGUS is unclear. A systematic search of PUBMED and EMBASE for cohort studies investigating the association between age/race/gender/obesity and progression to MM.

Neuroinflammation mediated by glial cells plays a crucial role in demyelination in experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE), a multiple sclerosis (MS) model. Forsythoside B (FTS·B), a natural phenylethanoid glycoside isolated from the dried fruits and leaves of Forsythia suspensa (Thunb.) Vahl, has been found to have antioxidant, anti-apoptotic, and anti-inflammatory properties.

Proton-electron transfer (PET) processes play a pivotal role in numerous electrochemical reactions; yet, effectively harnessing them remains a formidable challenge. Consequently, unveiling the PET pathway is imperative to elucidate the factors influencing the efficiency and selectivity of small molecule electrochemical conversion. In this study, a Zn-NC model catalyst with N and C vacancies was synthesized using a hydriding method to investigate the universal impact of PET on CO electroreduction.

To enhance tumor comprehensive therapeutic effect of nanomedicines, an efficient strategy that integrates polydopamine and IR780 photothermal therapy, glucose oxidase (GOx) starvation therapy, Banoxantrone (AQ4N) and Tirapazamine (TPZ) dual hypoxia chemotherapy is developed in chronological order. Higher tumor accumulation of porous dual infinite coordination polymer nanocomposites are designed and prepared to implement this strategy, in which fluorescent dye IR780 doped hypoxic prodrugs AQ4N and TPZ coordinated with Cu(II) as the core, this core is encapsulated by GOx-loaded porous polydopamine coordinated with Fe(III) (Fe-MPDA). These nanocomposites exhibit a particle dimension of 118.

Backgrounds: The cerebral oximetry index (CO) uses near-infrared spectroscopy to estimate cerebral autoregulation during cardiac surgery. However, the relationship between intraoperative loss of cerebral autoregulation and postoperative delirium or stroke remains unclear in patients recovering from carotid endarterectomy (CEA).

Methods: Our prospective observational cohort study enrolled patients scheduled for CEA.

Using a full-wave theory to analyze the light beam scattering at sharp interfaces, we reexamine the anomalous spin-orbit interaction (SOI) around the Fresnel coefficient (FC) singularities. We evaluate the spin-dependent beam shifts near the singularity for three typical optical interfaces, comparing our results with existing ones. Existing theories neglect the contribution of the wave vector component near the FC singularities, potentially leading to erroneous results.

Macroalgae growth depends on biologically available nitrogen, such as ammonium and nitrate, making nitrogen the most common growth-limiting factor for macroalgae. However, the role of surface microorganisms in promoting nitrogen transformation and improving nitrogen utilization by macroalgae remains unclear. In this study, 228 bacterial strains were isolated from the surface of , and high-throughput sequencing revealed significant shifts in the composition of surface bacterial communities under different nitrogen concentrations.

Microglia, the main phagocytic cells in the brain, play a key role in inflammatory response and neuroprotection in ischemic stroke, and are potential targets for the treatment of ischemic stroke. Multiple studies have confirmed that the effect of acupuncture on ischemic stroke is closely related to its effect in regulating the activities of microglia. In the present paper, we reviewed the role of microglia in ischemic stroke and the current research status of acupuncture intervention, and prospects the future research direction.
