Photocatalytic conversion of CO and HO into high-value-added C2 fuels remains a tough challenge, mainly due to the insufficient concentration of photogenerated electrons for the instability of C1 intermediates, which often tend to desorb easily and disable to form C─C bonds. In this work, photoreduction of CO-to-CH is successfully achieved by introducing adjacent C, N dual-vacancy sites within the heptazine rings of ultrathin g-CN, which results in the opening of two neighboring heptazine rings and forms a distinctive dipole-limited domain field (DLDF) structure. In situ X-ray photoelectron spectra and in situ fourier transform infrared spectra provide direct evidence of the rapid accumulation and transformation of C1 intermediates, especially CO and CHO, within the DLDF.

Interleukin-15 (IL-15) emerges as a promising immunotherapeutic candidate, but the therapeutic utility remains concern due to the unexpected systematic stress. Here, we propose that the mRNA lipid nanoparticle (mRNA-LNP) system can balance the issue through targeted delivery to increase IL-15 concentration in the tumor area and reduce leakage into the circulation. In the established Structure-driven TARgeting (STAR) platform, the LNP and LNP can effectively and selectively deliver optimized IL-15 superagonists mRNAs to local and lungs, respectively, in relevant tumor models.

Article Synopsis
  • Chronic low-grade inflammation, indicated by the systemic immune-inflammatory index (SII), may increase the risk of fragility fractures in postmenopausal women with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).
  • The study involved 423 women divided into three SII levels, finding that higher SII levels correlated with lower bone mineral density and higher likelihood of major osteoporotic and hip fractures over a 7-year follow-up.
  • Results showed a significant relationship between high SII and fragility fractures, particularly in anemic patients, suggesting that inflammation potentially exacerbates bone health issues in this demographic.

High-precision geophones play crucial roles in terrestrial applications such as oil and gas exploration as well as seismic monitoring. The development of optomechanical precision measurements provides a new design method for geophones, offering higher sensitivity and smaller dimensions compared to traditional geophones. In this work, we introduce an optomechanical microelectromechanical system (MEMS) geophone based on a plano-concave Fabry‒Perot (F-P) microcavity, which has a high sensitivity of 146 V/g.

Background: Mitochondrial calcium uptake-induced mitophagy may play an essential role in myocardial ischemia/reperfusion (MI/R) injury. Diltiazem hydrochloride (DIL), a traditional calcium channel blocker, can alleviate MI/R injury by blocking calcium overload. However, whether the protective mechanism of DIL involves mitophagy remains elusive.

Adropin is a unique hormone, which controls metabolism and energy homeostasis. Hyperthyroidism is a disease with a high metabolic rate that affects both glucose and lipid metabolism. We aimed to investigate the change of adropin levels and the association between adropin levels and clinical parameters in patients with hyperthyroidism.

We herein report a copper-catalyzed 1,3-aminocyclization of cyclopropanes as a direct and versatile entry into important heterocycles. This reaction was initiated by a copper-catalyzed, NFSI-promoted ring opening of cyclopropanes, followed by nucleophilic cyclization. A variety of nucleophiles successfully participate in this transformation, including alcohols, carboxylic acids, sulfonamides, and amides, for the construction of diverse cyclic ethers, pyrrolidines, lactones, and iminolactones.

In this work, we explored the role and mechanism of sea buckthorn oil in reducing radiation-induced skin damage. The radiation-induced rat skin injury model was established using strontium-90. Rats were treated with sea buckthorn oil twice a day postirradiation, and skin damage was observed at different times and evaluated using an injury score.

Aim: This study aimed to assess the efficacy of antithyroid drugs (ATDs) and radioactive iodine-131 (RAI) therapies in reducing the risk of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs) and all-cause mortality in patients with hyperthyroidism complicated with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).

Methods: Between January 2013 and December 2021, 540 subjects were included in the analysis. All participants were followed up for 9 years, with a median of 54 months (2451 person-years).

Bound states in the continuum (BICs) on metasurfaces have garnered significant interest for their ultrahigh Q-factor potential in sensing applications. Reconfigurability and multi-band resonance are highly desirable for sensing systems. In this work, we introduce a metasurface comprising four nanocubes with different permittivity asymmetries, which can be dynamically adjusted using GeSbTe (GST225), a phase-change material, in the near-infrared (NIR) region.

Due to their ultrahigh Q-factor and small mode volume, bound states in the continuum (BICs) are intriguing for the fundamental study of the strong coupling regime. However, the strong coupling generated by BICs in one metasurface is not always strong enough, which highly limits its efficiency in applications. In this work, we realize a giant strong coupling of at most 60 meV in a quasi-BICs' (Q-BICs) tetramer metasurface composed of four Si cylinders with two different sets of diagonal lengths.

Multi-band circular dichroism (CD) response and tunability on the chiral metasurface are crucial for this device's applications in sensing and detection. This work proposes a dual-band CD Au-CaF-Au dimer elliptical metasurface absorber, where chiroptical sensing is realized by breaking the geometric symmetry between two ellipses. The proposed metasurface can achieve high CD values of 0.

Background: Keloids are excessive formations of scar tissue that develop at the site of a skin injury. Due to their invasive nature, they have a negative impact on the skin's appearance and are prone to recurrence, making them a challenging condition to treat with regard to skin aesthetics.

Objectives: The objective of this article was to compare the long-term effects of dermatologic trephination with nonsurgical treatments for scars and evaluate the clinical value of the treatments.

Mid-infrared (MIR) Si-based optoelectronics has wide potential applications, and its design requires simultaneous consideration of device performance optimization and the feasibility of heterogeneous integration. The emerging interest in all-dielectric metasurfaces for optoelectronic applications stems from their exceptional ability to manipulate light. In this Letter, we present our research on an InSb all-dielectric metasurface designed to achieve ultrahigh absorptivity within the 5-5.

However, no research has yet confirmed whether there is a linear correlation between the TyG index and MACCEs in DFUs. The present study aimed to delve into the association between the TyG index and the risk of MACCEs in patients with DFUs.

Background & Aims: The elderly are prone to fragility fractures, especially those suffering from type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) combined with osteoporosis. Although studies have confirmed the association between GNRI and the prevalence of osteoporosis, the relationship between GNRI and fragility fracture risk and the individualized 10-year probability of osteoporotic fragility fractures estimated by FRAX remains unclear. This study aims to delve into the association between the GNRI and a fragility fracture and the 10-year probability of hip fracture (HF) and major osteoporotic fracture (MOF) evaluated by FRAX in elderly with T2DM.

We analytically extend the 5D Myers-Perry metric through the event and Cauchy horizons by defining Eddington-Finkelstein-type coordinates. Then, we use the orthonormal frame formalism to formulate and perform separation of variables on the massive Dirac equation, and analyse the asymptotic behaviour at the horizons and at infinity of the solutions to the radial ordinary differential equation (ODE) thus obtained. Using the essential self-adjointness result of Finster-Röken and Stone's formula, we obtain an integral spectral representation of the Dirac propagator for spinors with low masses and suitably bounded frequency spectra in terms of resolvents of the Dirac Hamiltonian, which can in turn be expressed in terms of Green's functions of the radial ODE.
