The oscillator of the cyanobacterial circadian clock relies on the ability of the KaiB protein to switch reversibly between a stable ground-state fold (gsKaiB) and an unstable fold-switched fold (fsKaiB). Rare fold-switching events by KaiB provide a critical delay in the negative feedback loop of this posttranslational oscillator. The incorporation of nitrogen atoms into cyclic compounds is essential for terrestrial life; nitrogen-containing (N-)heterocycles make up DNA and RNA nucleobases, several amino acids, B vitamins, porphyrins, and other components of biomolecules. The discovery of these molecules on meteorites with non-terrestrial isotopic abundances supports the hypothesis of exogenous delivery of prebiotic material to early Earth; however, there has been no detection of these species in interstellar environments, indicating that there is a need for greater knowledge of their astrochemical formation and destruction pathways. Here, we present results of simulations of gas-phase pyrrole and pyridine formation from an nanoreactor, a first-principles molecular dynamics simulation method that accelerates reaction discovery by applying non-equilibrium forces that are agnostic to individual reaction coordinates.

Previous studies have demonstrated the roles of both microglia homeostasis and RNA editing in sepsis-associated encephalopathy (SAE), yet their relationship remains to be elucidated. In this study, we analyzed bulk and single-cell RNA-seq (scRNA) datasets containing 107 brain tissue and microglia samples from mice with microglial depletion and repopulation to explore canonical RNA editing associated with microglia homeostasis and evaluate its role in SAE. Analysis of mouse brain RNA-Seq revealed hallmarks of microglial repopulation, including peak expressions of Apobec1 and Apobec3 at Day 5 of repopulation and dramatically altered B2m RNA editing.

In this Letter we try to search for signals generated by ultraheavy dark matter at the Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO) data. We look for possible γ rays by dark matter annihilation or decay from 16 dwarf spheroidal galaxies in the field of view of the LHAASO. Dwarf spheroidal galaxies are among the most promising targets for indirect detection of dark matter that have low fluxes of astrophysical γ-ray background while having large amount of dark matter.

To analyze the epidemiological characteristics of human respiratory syncytial virus (HRSV) in cases of febrile respiratory syndrome in China from 2010 to 2020. Based on the sub-project of the National Science and Technology Major Project for Infectious Disease Prevention and Control "Infectious Disease Monitoring Technology Platform", active monitoring of febrile respiratory syndrome cases was conducted in sentinel hospitals in 31 provinces across China (excluding Hong Kong, Macau, and Chinese Taiwan) from January 2010 to December 2020, resulting in the inclusion of 191 441 cases. Clinical specimens of monitored cases were screened for HRSV nucleic acid, and the differences in HRSV detection rates among different age groups, regions, and time periods were analyzed using the χ test/Fisher exact probability method.

This study presents the polarizable quantum mechanics/molecular mechanics (QM/MM) embedding of the state-averaged complete active space self-consistent field (SA-CASSCF) in the atomic multipole optimized energetics for biomolecular applications (AMOEBA) force field for the purpose of studying photoreactions in protein environments. We describe two extensions of our previous work that combine SA-CASSCF with AMOEBA water models, allowing it to be generalized to AMOEBA models for proteins and other macromolecules. First, we discuss how our QM/MM model accounts for the discrepancy between the direct and polarization electric fields that arises in the AMOEBA description of intramolecular polarization.

Hydrogen bonding is a crucial feature of biomolecules, but its characterization in glycans dissolved in aqueous solutions is challenging due to rapid hydrogen exchange between hydroxyl groups and HO. In principle, the scalar (J) coupling constant can reveal the relative orientation of the atoms in the molecule.
