Black oilseed crops are rich in diverse phenolic compounds and have excellent antioxidant activities, as reported in traditional Chinese medicine. Testa (seed coat) and peeled seeds (cotyledon, embryo, and other structures) are the seed's crucial components, contributing to the variation in phytonutrient, phenol content, bioactive component, and protective and pharmacological effects. However, comprehensive and comparative information on total phenol, flavonoid, antioxidant, and metabolic profiles in black seed testa and peeled sesame, soybean, peanut, and rapeseed seeds is rare.

Article Synopsis
  • The study evaluates the effectiveness of the CISCER test (PAX1/JAM3 methylation) as a triage method for women who test positive for HPV 16/18, aiming to minimize unnecessary colposcopy referrals.
  • Significant increases in PAX1 and JAM3 methylation levels were found in women with severe cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN2+), demonstrating that the CISCER test outperformed cytology in identifying these cases.
  • The CISCER test achieved high sensitivity (89.0%) and specificity (95.3%) and accurately detected all cervical cancer patients, suggesting it could be a reliable tool to reduce over-referrals and overtreatment in HPV-positive women.

Background: Laccases (LACs) are vital plant growth and development enzymes, participating in lignin biopolymerization and responding to stress. However, the role of LAC genes in plant development as well as stress tolerance, is still not well understood, particularly in sesame (Sesamum indicum L.), an important oilseed crop.

The multidimensional significance of metabolomics has gained increasing attention in oilseeds research and development. Sesame, peanut, soybean, sunflower, rapeseed, and perilla are the most important oilseed crops consumed as vegetable oils worldwide. However, multiple biotic and abiotic stressors affect metabolites essential for plant growth, development, and ecological adaptation, resulting in reduced productivity and quality.

Background: Atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance (ASC-US) often present diagnostic challenges with cytology-based results, leading to potential underdiagnosis or overdiagnosis. An effective triage method is essential for managing these cases to reduce unnecessary referrals and treatment.

Methods: A total of 322 women diagnosed with ASC-US were tested for HPV-DNA and the PAX1 and JAM3 methylation (PAX1/JAM3) test in the study.

Article Synopsis
  • A novel visual aptasensor using platinum nanoparticles loaded on graphitic carbon nitride (PtNPs/g-CN) and deoxyribonuclease I (DNase I) was developed for detecting the pesticide acetamiprid.
  • The sensor leverages the peroxidase-like activity of PtNPs/g-CN to convert a colorless substrate into a colored product, with the acetamiprid aptamer inhibiting this activity when bound to the sensor.
  • This system allows for quick and sensitive detection of acetamiprid in environmental and food samples, achieving a detection limit of 0.31 ng/mL and enabling monitoring through smartphone technology.

Male sterile lines are key resources for hybrid seed production and for ensuring high varietal purity. However, the genes and mechanisms underlying sesame male sterility remain largely unknown. Hence, this study identified an O-acetylserine(thiol)lyase gene SiOASTL1 and functionally characterized its roles in inducing defective anther development.

This study focuses on optimizing chlorophyll extraction techniques, in which leaf discs are cut from places on the leaf blade to enhance chlorophyll concentration in sesame ( L.) leaves. Thirty sesame genotypes, categorized into light green (LG), middle green (MG), and deep green (DG) pigment groups based on leaf coloration, were selected from a larger pool of field-grown accessions.

Objective: The objective of this study was to verify the clinical predictive performance of methylated cysteine dioxygenase type 1 () and CUGBP Elav-like family member 4 () in endometrial cancer (EC) women with postmenopausal bleeding (PMB).

Material And Methods: A single-center, prospective, and case-control study was conducted in the Gansu Provincial Maternity and Child-care Hospital with 138 female postmenopausal patients enrolled in 2022. All patients underwent body mass index (BMI) detection, transvaginal ultrasonography (TVUS) detection, carbohydrate antigen 125 detection, and the cervical exfoliated cell gene methylation detection to analyze the sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy of different screening tests statistically with the biopsy and/or dilation and curettage (D&C) pathological diagnosis under hysteroscopy as the gold standard.

Sesame seeds are important resources for relieving oxidation stress-related diseases. Although a significant variation in seeds' antioxidant capability is observed, the underlying biochemical and molecular basis remains elusive. Thus, this study aimed to reveal major seed components and key molecular mechanisms that drive the variability of seeds' antioxidant activity (AOA) using a panel of 400 sesame accessions.

Parkinson's disease (PD) is the second most common neurodegenerative disease characterized by the progressive degeneration of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra (SN). The main bioactive component of green tea polyphenols (-)-epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) exerts protective effects against diseases such as neurodegenerative diseases and cancer. Therefore, this study investigated the effect of EGCG on the amelioration of neural damage in a chronic PD mouse model induced by α-synuclein preformed fibrils (α-syn-PFFs).

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a prevalent progressive and multifactorial neurodegenerative disorder. Cordycepin is known to exhibit antitumor, anti-inflammatory, antioxidative stress, and neuroprotective effects; however, few studies have explored the neuroprotective mechanism of cordycepin in PD. Using a 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine (MPTP)-induced mouse model, we investigated the impact of cordycepin on PD and its underlying molecular mechanisms.

Background: In a previous training set with a case-controlled design, cutoff values for host and gene methylation were obtained for the detection of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) 2 or more severe lesions (CIN2+). This validation trial was conducted to evaluate the role of DNA methylation in screening for CIN2+ by cervical cytology among unselected participants.

Methods: From June 1, 2019, to September 1, 2019, in our study center, we collected liquid-based samples from cervical swabs for methylation assays and hrHPV testing in eligible patients.

Background: Drought stress has significantly hampered agricultural productivity worldwide and can also result in modifications to DNA methylation levels. However, the dynamics of DNA methylation and its association with the changes in gene transcription and alternative splicing (AS) under drought stress are unknown in linseed, which is frequently cultivated in arid and semiarid regions.

Results: We analysed AS events and DNA methylation patterns in drought-tolerant (Z141) and drought-sensitive (NY-17) linseed under drought stress (DS) and repeated drought stress (RD) treatments.

Angle-only sensors cannot provide range information of targets and in order to determine accurate position of a signal source, one can connect distributed passive sensors with communication links and implement a fusion algorithm to estimate target position. To measure moving targets with sensors on moving platforms, most of existing algorithms resort to the filtering method. In this paper, we present two fusion algorithms to estimate both the position and velocity of moving target with distributed angle-only sensors in motion.
