Herpesvirus of turkey (HVT) recombinant vector vaccines are widely used in the poultry industry. However, due to limitations in loading multiple foreign antigens into a single HVT vector, other viral vectors are urgently needed. Since chickens lack maternal immunity to duck enteritis virus (DEV), vector vaccines using DEV as a backbone are currently under study.

Article Synopsis
  • - Diarrhea poses a significant health risk to children under five, and the study analyzes data to understand its global impact and identify effective prevention strategies.
  • - An analysis of Global Burden of Disease data from 1990 to 2021 shows a notable decline in diarrhea incidence, prevalence, mortality, and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) among young children, indicating progress.
  • - Future projections (2022-2035) suggest continued reductions in diarrhea rates, with major causes of mortality identified as wasting, underweight, and lack of exclusive breastfeeding, and rotavirus being the main pathogen linked to severe outcomes.

  • The study investigates how RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus) prevalence patterns in China were affected during the COVID-19 pandemic from 2019 to 2022.
  • It analyzed data from over 872,000 children and found that while RSV detection rates rose during the pandemic, especially in children under 5, a notable decline occurred in 2022.
  • The research concludes that the pandemic disrupted typical RSV seasonal patterns, resulting in increased year-long outbreaks and a lack of clear seasonal trends post-April 2022.

Article Synopsis
  • - Diabetes leads to bone loss, severely affecting individuals' bone health, and KIAA0753, a protein associated with primary cilia, plays an important role in regulating osteoblast differentiation in this context.
  • - Research shows that KIAA0753 is downregulated in high-glucose environments, both in specific bone cells and diabetes mouse models, which hinders the formation of osteoblasts and activates adverse signaling pathways.
  • - Enhancing KIAA0753 levels can counteract these negative effects by stimulating the Hedgehog signaling pathway and improving osteoblast differentiation, highlighting its potential as a therapeutic target for diabetes-related bone loss.

In the relay intercropping system of maize/sweet potato, the growth of the sweet potatoes is seriously limited by weak light stress in the early stage due to shade from maize plants. However, it is not clear how the weak light affects sweet potatoes and causes tuberous root loss. By setting two light intensity levels (weak light = 30% transmittance of normal light), this study evaluated the responses of two sweet potato cultivars with different tolerances to weak light in a field-based experiment and examined the divergence of gene expression related to light and photosynthesis in a pot-based experiment.

Background: Tuberculosis (TB) is a major infectious disease with significant public health implications. Its widespread transmission, prolonged treatment duration, notable side effects, and high mortality rate pose severe challenges. This study examines the epidemiological characteristics of TB globally and across major regions, providing a scientific basis for enhancing TB prevention and control measures worldwide.

  • * Utilizing data from the Global Burden of Disease Study 2021, the research analyzed trends in incidence, prevalence, mortality, and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) for various forms of HIV-related TB from 1990 to 2021.
  • * In 2021, the rates showed that HIV-DS-TB had the highest incidence and mortality rates compared to HIV-MDR-TB and HIV-XDR-TB, with significant increases in the incidence and mortality of multi-drug resistant and extensively drug-resistant forms over the study

Revealing the effect of surface structure changes on the electrocatalytic performance is beneficial to the development of highly efficient catalysts. However, precise regulation of the catalyst surface at the atomic level remains challenging. Here, we present a continuous strain regulation of palladium (Pd) on gold (Au) via a mechanically controllable surface strain (MCSS) setup.

In order to understand the pathogenicity differentiation of rice blast fungus ( Cavara), a total of 206 isolates of were collected from three Japonica rice regions in Jilin Province, northeast China. Pathogenicity test showed that the reaction pattern of 25 monogenic differential varieties (MDVs) of rice ( L.) demonstrated a wide pathogenic diversity among the isolates.

The morphological, physiological, and biochemical characteristics of leaves result from the long-term adaptation of plants to their environment and are closely related to plant growth and development. In this study, 37 prickly ash germplasm resources from 18 production areas were utilized as the subjects of research. Logistic equations, principal component analysis, and cluster analysis were employed to comprehensively evaluate the leaf traits of prickly ash germplasm resources, with an analysis of their correlation with ecological and geographical factors in the production areas.

Circuits on different layers in a printed circuit board (PCB) must be aligned according to high-precision fiducial mark images during exposure processing. However, processing quality depends on the detection accuracy of fiducial marks. Precise segmentation of fiducial marks from images can significantly improve detection accuracy.

Article Synopsis
  • Previous studies suggested a link between inflammatory cytokines and tuberculosis (TB), but this research aimed to clarify that relationship using Mendelian randomization analyses with data from genetic studies and TB cases.
  • The analysis found a positive causal relationship between interleukin-7 levels and TB risk, while negative associations were identified for several factors, including macrophage inflammatory protein 1 alpha and interleukins 2 and 2 receptor alpha.
  • This study enhances our understanding of TB mechanisms and may lead to new ways to identify potential treatments or interventions.

Since 2011, pseudorabies based on the pseudorabies virus (PRV) variant has emerged as a serious health issue in pig farms in China. The PRV gE/TK or gE/gI/TK deletion strains protect against emerging PRV variants. However, these variants may cause lethal infections in newborn piglets without PRV antibodies.

Background: Blastocystis hominis (Bh) is zoonotic parasitic pathogen with a high prevalent globally, causing opportunistic infections and diarrhea disease. Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection disrupts the immune system by depleting CD4 T lymphocyte (CD4 T) cell counts, thereby increasing Bh infection risk among persons living with HIV (PLWH). However, the precise association between Bh infection risk and HIV-related biological markers and treatment processes remains poorly understood.

What Is Already Known About This Topic?: Diarrhea represents a substantial public health issue, contributing globally to a high number of pediatric medical consultations, hospital admissions, and mortality rates.

What Is Added By This Report?: An increase in diarrheal frequency serves as a critical benchmark for evaluating severity. The predominant pathogens associated with pediatric diarrhea are rotavirus and norovirus, with co-infections exerting a notable compounding effect that leads to more severe diarrhea.

In this study, we applied bacterial artificial chromosome (BAC) technology with PRV as the base material to replace the first, central, and terminal segments of the US3 gene with codon-deoptimized fragments via two-step Red-mediated recombination in GS1783 cells. The three constructed BACs were co-transfected with gI and part of gE fragments carrying homologous sequences (gI+gE'), respectively, in swine testicular cells. These three recombinant viruses with US3 codon de-optimization ((PRV, PRV, and PRV) were obtained and purified.

Growth regulatory factors (GRF) are plant-specific transcription factors that play pivotal roles in growth and various abiotic stresses regulation. However, adaptive evolution of GRF gene family in land plants are still being elucidated. Here, we performed the evolutionary and expression analysis of GRF gene family from seven representative species.
