To explore the effect of curcumol on autophagy and ferroptosis of hepatic stellate cells, and to clarify the molecular mechanism of its anti-hepatic fibrosis. In the present study, we report that curcumol promotes the death of activated HSCs and reduces the deposition of extracellular matrix. Interestingly, curcumol treatment can trigger ferroptosis to eliminate activated HSCs characterized by iron overload, lipid ROS accumulation, glutathione depletion, and lipid peroxidation.

Pleurotomarioidea represents a truly isolated and basally diverging lineage in Vetigastropoda (Mollusca: Gastropoda) whose fossil record can date back to the late Cambrian, thus providing rare insights into the evolutionary history of molluscs. Here, we sequenced and assembled the complete mitochondrial genome of one representative species from Pleurotomarioidea- (Schepman, 1879)-of which the mitogenome is 15,795 bp in length, including 13 protein-coding genes, two ribosomal RNA genes, and 22 transfer RNA genes. The nucleotide composition was biased toward AT, and A + T content reached 65.

Transition metal borides (MBenes) have recently drawn great attention due to their excellent electrochemical performance as anode materials for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). Using the structural search code and first-principles calculations, we identify a group of the MB monolayers (M = V, Nb and Ta) consisting of multiple MB units interpenetrating with each other. The MB monolayers with non-chemically active surfaces are stable and have metal-like conduction.

Obesity is characterized by excessive body fat accumulation and is a high-risk factor for metabolic comorbidities, including type 2 diabetes, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, and cardiovascular disease. In lean individuals, adipose tissue (AT) is not only an important regulatory organ for energy storage and metabolism, but also an indispensable immune and endocrine organ. The sustained energy imbalance induces adipocyte hypotrophy and hyperplasia as well as AT remodeling, accompanied by chronic low-grade inflammation and adipocytes dysfunction in AT, ultimately leading to systemic insulin resistance and ectopic lipid deposition.

Prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) is a prominent biomarker for prostate cancer (PCa) diagnosis. Safe contrast agents able to render the expression and distribution of PSMA would facilitate early accurate screening and prognostic prediction of PCa. However, current Gd-containing nanoparticles are often limited by nonspecific redistribution in mononuclear phagocyte system (MPS) and inadequate perfusion to target sites.

A photonic transistor that can switch or amplify an optical signal with a single gate photon requires strong non-linear interaction at the single-photon level. Circuit quantum electrodynamics provides great flexibility to generate such an interaction, and thus could serve as an effective platform to realize a high-performance single-photon transistor. Here we demonstrate such a photonic transistor in the microwave regime.

Isopropanol has a good potential as a new fuel substitution. In the model biosynthesis pathway of isopropanol synthesis, acetoacetyl-CoA is converted to acetoacetate by acetoacetyl-CoA transferases, which requires an acetate molecule as a substrate. Herein, a novel isopropanol synthesis pathway based on mammalian ketone metabolic pathway was developed.

Plant receptors constitute a large protein family that regulates various aspects of development and responses to external cues. Functional characterization of this protein family and the identification of their ligands remain major challenges in plant biology. Previously, we identified plasma membrane-intrinsic sucrose-induced receptor kinase 1 (SIRK1) and Qian Shou kinase 1 (QSK1) as receptor/co-receptor pair involved in the regulation of aquaporins in response to osmotic conditions induced by sucrose.

By linking the carbazole unit to the nitrogen atom of acridone through phenyl or pyridyl, two compounds, named 10-(4-(9H-carbazol-9-yl)phenyl)acridin-9(10H)-one (AC-Ph-Cz) and 10-(5-(9H-carbazol-9-yl)pyridin-2-yl)acridin-9(10H)-one (AC-Py-Cz) were designed and synthesized. These two materials, characterized with highly twisted and rigid structure, good thermal stability, and balanced carrier-transporting properties, were employed as host materials for green phosphorescent and thermally activated delayed fluorescent organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs). The carbazole group, despite its small contribution to the highest occupied molecular orbitals (HOMOs) of these two materials, plays an essential role as an intramolecular host in energy delivering and improving the hole transporting ability of these two hosts.

To provide a theory to guide the selection of the illumination parameters of light emitting diode (LED)-based light sources used for trapping , we used LED light sources and devices built in-house to detect phototactic behavior. Through phototaxis screening experiments of different light sources and the comparative experimental method, we analyzed the response patterns of to wavelength, light intensity, layout, flash frequency of monochromatic light sources, as well as combined color light sources, and discussed the mechanisms of the phototactic behavior of under different light sources. The results of the monochromatic light experiment showed that the trapping rate of the to the linear blue light source of 460 nm was the highest and was also significantly affected by the light intensity.

Degradable polylactic acids (PLA) have been widely used in agriculture, textile, medicine and degradable plastics industry, and can completely replace petroleum-based plastics in the future. At present, polylactic acid was chemically synthesized by ring-opening polymerisation or the direct polycondensation of lactic acid, which inevitably leads to chemical and heavy metal catalyst pollution. The current research focus has gradually shifted to the development of recombinant industrial strains for the efficiently production of lactate-containing polyesters from renewable resources.

Mathematical models of voltage-gated ion channels are used in basic research, industrial and clinical settings. These models range in complexity, but typically contain numerous variables representing the proportion of channels in a given state, and parameters describing the voltage-dependent rates of transition between states. An open problem is selecting the appropriate degree of complexity and structure for an ion channel model given data availability.

Orthopedic implants have been used clinically to restore the functions of the compromised bone tissues, but there is still a relatively high risk of failure for elderly people. A critical reason is pro-inflammatory immune microenvironment created by senescent macrophages with homeostasis imbalance impairs osteogenesis and angiogenesis, two major processes involved in implant osseointegration. The present work proposes to use resveratrol as an autophagy inducing agent to upregulate the autophagy level of senescent macrophages to restore homeostasis, consequently generating a favorable immune microenvironment.
