A new cyclohexenone, phomaligol J (1), along with 9 known compounds (2-10) was isolated from the liquid culture of the pufferfish associated Aspergillus austwickii collected from Yangma Island, Yantai. Their structures were determined by extensive spectroscopic data analysis, HRESIMS, electronic circular dichroism (ECD) and the comparison with reported data in the literature. In bioactivity, all isolated compounds were evaluated for antibacterial activity against 12 bacterial strains.

The angiosperm tribe of Elsholtzieae (Lamiaceae) is characterized by complex inflorescences and has notable medicinal and economic significance. Relationships within Elsholtzieae, including the monophyly of Elsholtzia and Keiskea, and relationships among Mosla, Keiskea and Perilla, remain uncertain, hindering insights into inflorescence evolution within the tribe. Using hybridization capture sequencing and deep genome skimming data analysis, we reconstruct a phylogeny of Elsholtzieae using 279 orthologous nuclear loci from 56 species.

Introduction: Transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) is the gold standard surgical treatment to lower urinary tract symptoms and benign prostatic obstruction (LUTS/BPO). Although it has been proven to have substantial efficacy in improving functional outcomes, it has shown a high incidence of complications, including transurethral resection syndrome, massive bleeding, urinary incontinence and sexual dysfunction. High-frequency irreversible electroporation (H-FIRE) is a novel non-thermal ablation technique that delivers pulsed high-voltage but low-energy electric current to the cell membrane, thereby leading to cell death.

miR-155 exhibits variable expression in different tumors and fulfills diverse biological roles. However, specific molecular mechanisms by which miR-155-5p, which is under-expressed in prostate cancer (PCa), operates are yet to be elucidated. The role of the enhancer of zeste 2 (EZH2)/miR-155-5p axis in PCa was determined by using bioinformatics tools and performing luciferase reporter assay, chromatin immunoprecipitation PCR, CCK-8 assays, cell migration and invasion assays, RNA isolation, reverse transcription quantity (RT-qPCR) and Western blot.

The high potential of non-covalent arene-fluoroarene intermolecular interactions in the design of liquid crystals lies in their ability to strongly promote self-assembly, improve the order and stability of the supramolecular mesophases, and enable tuneability of the optical and electronic properties, which can potentially be exploited for advanced applications in display technologies, photonic devices, sensors, and organic electronics. We recently successfully reported the straightforward synthesis of several mesogens containing four lateral aliphatic chains and derived from the classical triphenylene core self-assembling in columnar mesophases based on this paradigm. These mesogenic compounds were simply obtained in good yields by the nucleophilic substitution (SFAr) of various types of commercially available fluoroarenes with the electrophilic organolithium derivatives 2,2'-dilithio-4,4',5,5'-tetraalkoxy-1,1'-biphenyl (2Li- ).

Objective: To explore characteristics, management strategies and preventive measures of fusion device displacement after oblique lateral interbody fusion (OLIF) in treating lumbar lesions.

Methods: The clinical data of 12 patients with fusion device displacement after OLIF for lumbar lesions in 4 medical centers from October 2014 to December 2018 were retrospectively analyzed, including 4 males and 8 females, aged from 53 to 81 years old;2 patients with lumbar disc degeneration, 4 patients with lumbar spinal stenosis, 3 patients with lumbar degenerative spondylolisthesis and 3 patients with lumbar degenerative kyphosis;preoperative dual-energy X-ray bone mineral density (BMD) was detected in 1 patient with T-value > -1 SD, 5 patients with T-value >-1~-2.5 SD, and 6 patients with T-value <-2.

To analyze the outcome indicators of randomized controlled trial(RCT) of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) in the treatment of non-severe community-acquired pneumonia(NSCAP), and to provide a basis for the design of NSCAP clinical trials and the construction of core outcome set. CNKI, Wanfang, VIP, SinoMed, PubMed, EMbase, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science were systematically searched from establishment to August 31, 2023. Two reviewers independently screened the literature, extracted data, and evaluated the risk of bias in the included studies.

Background: Foreign body-induced cancer is a traditional way of understanding cancer development. The induction of cancers by exogenous foreign bodies has been identified in many organs. However, small bowel adenocarcinoma induced by foreign bodies has not been reported in the literature, although the incidence of small bowel adenocarcinoma is increasing globally.

As an essential macronutrient, phosphorus (P) is often a limiting nutrient because of its low availability and mobility in soils. Drought is a major environmental stress that reduces crop yield. How plants balance and combine P-starvation responses (PSRs) and drought resistance is unclear.

Gliomas are typical malignant brain tumours affecting a wide population worldwide. Operation, as the common treatment for gliomas, is always accompanied by postoperative drug chemotherapy, but cannot cure patients. The main challenges are chemotherapeutic drugs have low blood-brain barrier passage rate and a lot of serious adverse effects, meanwhile, they have difficulty targeting glioma issues.

Intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR), when a fetus does not grow as expected, is associated with a reduction in hepatic functionality and a higher risk for chronic liver disease in adulthood. Utilizing early developmental plasticity to reverse the outcome of poor fetal programming remains an unexplored area. Focusing on the biochemical profiles of neonates and previous transcriptome findings, piglets from the same fetus are selected as models for studying IUGR.

Objectives: To investigate the role of circRNA regulators MBNL1 and QKI in the progression of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma.

Background: MBNL1 and QKI are pivotal regulators of pre-mRNA alternative splicing, crucial for controlling circRNA production - an emerging biomarker and functional regulator of tumor progression. Despite their recognized roles, their involvement in ESCC progression remains unexplored.

The water content of the crude oil needs to be measured accurately. The analytical methods that are used, including distillation and Karl Fischer coulometric titration (KFCT), require verification using certified reference materials (CRMs) of crude oil for the water content. In the present study, five CRMs of light crude oil with large volumes and various certified water contents (1-10 mg/g) were developed using the gravimetric method.

Electroreduction of CO to valuable multicarbon (C) products is a highly attractive way to utilize and divert emitted CO. However, a major fraction of C selectivity is confined to less than 90% by the difficulty of coupling C-C bonds efficiently. Herein, we identify the stable Cu/Cu interfaces derived from copper phosphate-based (CuPO) electrocatalysts, which can facilitate C production with a low-energy pathway of OC-CHO coupling verified by in situ spectra studies and theoretical calculations.

The unexpected discovery of hot Jupiters challenged the classical theory of planet formation inspired by our solar system. Until now, the origin and evolution of hot Jupiters are still uncertain. Determining their age distribution and temporal evolution can provide more clues into the mechanism of their formation and subsequent evolution.

Article Synopsis
  • The overdiagnosis and overtreatment of prostate cancer due to non-specific PSA levels is a significant global issue that necessitates urgent solutions.
  • A retrospective study involving data from 1807 patients led to the development of a predictive model utilizing logistic regression, aimed at reducing unnecessary biopsies by assessing factors like PSA density and PI-RADS scores.
  • The final model demonstrated excellent performance in identifying clinically significant prostate cancer, enabling a risk stratification system that could inform personalized treatment decisions and significantly improve diagnosis-free survival rates in patients with lower risk thresholds.
