Glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) is an intermediate filament protein expressed mainly in astrocytes of the central nervous system (CNS), a potential biomarker of cognitive decline in Parkinson's disease (PD). The central motor subtypes of PD include tremor-dominant (TD), postural instability and gait disorder (PIGD), and indeterminate subtypes, whose different course of disease requires the development of biomarkers that can predict progression based on motor subtypes. In this study, we aimed to assess the predictive value of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) GFAP for PD motor subtypes in PD.

Background: Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality, and timely diagnosis and intervention are crucial for cancer patients. Transfer RNA-derived fragments (tRFs) play a noncoding regulatory role in organisms. Serum EV(extracellular vesicles), as an integral mediator of intercellular transmission of genetic information vesicles in Transfer RNA-derived fragment (tRF RNA), are expected to be minimally invasive diagnostic and predictive biologic factors of CRC.

Article Synopsis
  • - Cooperative wrapping of nanoparticles (NPs) by cell membranes enhances uptake, with computer simulations revealing that aggregating NPs generates stronger wrapping forces compared to single NPs, leading to more efficient endocytosis.
  • - The study systematically examines how factors like NP size, distance, interaction strength, configuration, and rigidity influence wrapping efficiency, finding that larger and more flexibly designed NPs improve internalization rates, especially in hexagonal arrangements.
  • - Two proposed targeting strategies involve using NPs with different wrapping characteristics to selectively engage cell receptors, and designing larger composite NPs that incorporate smaller NPs to exploit ligand-receptor competition for targeted drug delivery in cancer treatment.

Article Synopsis
  • Sleep disorders are linked to various metal exposures, researched using NHANES data which analyzed seven metals in 4,263 adults.
  • The study found that single exposure to metals did not show significant relationships, but mixed exposure models indicated selenium increases sleep disorder risks, while copper exhibited a "U-shaped" relationship in certain demographics.
  • Furthermore, high levels of metal mixtures correlated with shorter sleep duration in females, indicating the need for more research in this area.

The undesirable and inevitable adhesion of marine organisms on submerged surfaces has seriously affect the environment, economy and society, so emerging and promising strategies for antifouling are required. Here, the novel and environmental strategy of the antibacterial and antialgal materials was proposed for the application of the antifouling coating without releasing harmful substances. The environment-friendly antifouling agent, the capsaicin derivative N-(2,5-dihydroxy-4-acrylamide meth-ylbenzyl)acrylamide (PHABA), was modified to the molecular chain of the polyurethane.

Stable regulation of protein fate is a prerequisite for successful bone tissue repair. As a ubiquitin-specific protease (USP), USP26 can stabilize the protein fate of β-catenin to promote the osteogenic activity of mesenchymal cells (BMSCs) and significantly increased bone regeneration in bone defects in aged mice. However, direct transfection of Usp26 in vivo is inefficient.

Most scholars believe that amyloid-beta (Aβ) has the potential to induce apoptosis, stimulate an inflammatory cascade, promote oxidative stress and exacerbate the pathological progression of Alzheimer's disease (AD). Therefore, it is crucial to investigate the deposition of Aβ in AD. At approximately 6 months of age, APP/PS1 double transgenic mice gradually exhibit the development of plaques, as well as spatial and learning impairment.

Precision exogenous gene knock-in is an attractive field for transgenic (chicken) generation. In this article, we constructed multiple Precise Integration into Target Chromosome (PITCh) plasmid systems mediated by microhomology-mediated end-joining (MMEJ) for large-fragment integration in DF-1 cells and further assess the possibility of (glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase) as a genomic safe harbor for chickens. We designed three targeted sgRNAs for the all-in-one plasmid at the 3'UTR of near the stop codon.
