Background: There is still uncertainty regarding the association between maternal serum levels of retinol-binding protein 4 (RBP4) and pregnancy outcomes. This study aimed to determine the association between RBP4 levels and incidence of small/large for gestational age (SGA/LGA) infants among the Chinese population.

Methods: This was a retrospective study of 11,854 pregnant women who delivered at Changzhou Maternal and Child Health Care Hospital between 2016 and 2017 and whose serum RBP4 levels were measured at the time of admission.

Chemoresistance poses a significant clinical challenge in the treatment of gastric cancer (GC), while its underlying molecular mechanisms are still not fully understood. Post-translational protein modification and abnormal activation of nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-κB) are critical regulators of tumor chemoresistance. This study investigates the role of TNF receptors-associated factors 6 (TRAF6) in 5-Fluorouracil (5-FU) resistant GC.

Ultraviolet-assisted Direct Ink Writing(UV-DIW), an extrusion-based additive manufacturing technology, has emerged as a prominent 3D printing technique and is currently an important topic in bone tissue engineering research. This study focused on the printability of double-network (DN) bioink (Nano-hydroxyapatite/Polyethylene glycol diacrylate(nHA/PEGDA)). Next, we search for the optimal UV-DIW printing parameters for the scaffold formed by nHA-PEGDA.

Ammonia is a promising alternative energy to fossil fuels for reducing CO emissions. Plasma catalysis technology for ammonia production using clean energy is gaining attention. Introducing catalysts to the plasma increases ammonia synthesis rates, but the effect of catalyst particle movement in the plasma region, such as in a fluidized-bed reactor, is less explored.

Ischemic stroke is a significant global public health issue that impacts health burdens across various regions. This study analyzed data from the Global Burden of Disease Study 2021 to assess the incidence, mortality, and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) associated with ischemic stroke worldwide and across different Socio-demographic Index (SDI) regions. Using joinpoint regression and age-period-cohort (APC) models, we examined trends in disease burden and made projections for 2022 to 2035.

Pathogen-carrying seeds can significantly impact plant growth and development and may lead to serious public health incidents. Modern agriculture heavily relies on synthetic chemical microbicides and physical methods to eradicate pathogens transmitted by plant seeds. To counteract the misuse of microbicides, a class of cationic amphiphilic aggregate-induced emission luminogens (AIEgens) are developed as photodynamic seed sterilization agents.

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is characterized by cognitive inflexibility and social deficits, with a notably limited range of brain-targeted medications, particularly in the field of nanomedicine. Herein, we introduce the brain-targeted HS donor cross-linked nanomicelle, named mannose-PEG600-lipoic acid (Man-LA). Man-LA demonstrates enhanced stability and precise brain delivery by interacting with glucose transporter 1 (GLUT1) in astrocytes, facilitating a gradual release of HS that is modulated by glutathione (GSH).

Photocatalytic CO conversion is a promising approach to simultaneously mitigate climate change and alleviate the energy crisis. However, infrared light, which constitutes nearly half of the solar energy, has not been effectively utilized yet. In this work, we discover a photogenerated charge transition mechanism in CuInS with intrinsic In antisite defects for synergistic utilization of full-spectrum photons.

Drugs that eliminate senescent cells, senolytics, can be powerful when combined with prosenescence cancer therapies. Using a CRISPR/Cas9-based genetic screen, we identify here SLC25A23 as a vulnerability of senescent cancer cells. Suppressing SLC25A23 disrupts cellular calcium homeostasis, impairs oxidative phosphorylation, and interferes with redox signaling, leading to death of senescent cells.

Background: Perioperative ischemic stroke is a rare but devastating complication. Mechanical thrombectomy is a promising therapeutic method, but very little data is available on its efficacy and safety. This study aims to answer this question by comparing the clinical outcomes of perioperative and community-onset stroke patients after endovascular therapy.

Despite identifying genes regulating the coat colour in Western pig breeds, the genetic basis of the coat colour in Chinese indigenous pigs is still not understood due to the diversity of indigenous breeds and their genetic differences from exotic pigs. In this study, 215 Wuzhishan pigs with three coat colour patterns (white, black, and black-back/white-belly) were used to conduct a genome-wide association analysis. We found that genes responsible for the coat colour in the Wuzhishan breed are located on chromosome 8.

Background: Brain structural abnormalities have been associated with cognitive impairment in individuals with small cerebral vascular disease (CSVD). However, the molecular and cellular factors making the different brain structural regions more vulnerable to CSVD-related cognitive impairment remain largely unknown.

Materials And Methods: Voxel-based morphology (VBM) was performed on the structural magnetic resonance imaging data of 46 CSVD-related cognitive impairment and 73 healthy controls to analyze and compare the gray matter volume (GMV) between the 2 groups.

Wind erosion from farmland is a significant contributor to atmospheric particulate matter, particularly PM (atmospheric particulate matter with an aerodynamic diameter ≤ 10 μm), in regions with intensive agricultural activities such as the North China Plain (NCP). However, the specific impact of farmland dust emissions on regional air quality remains underexplored. This study integrated the Wind Erosion Prediction System (WEPS) model with the Weather Research and Forecasting model coupled with Chemistry (WRF-Chem) to investigate the effect of agricultural dust emissions on PM concentrations in the NCP.

The alarming surge in electronic waste (e-waste) in Hong Kong has heightened concerns regarding occupational exposure to a myriad of pollutants. Among these, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), phthalates (PAEs), and per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) are prevalent and known for their harmful effects, including the induction of oxidative stress and DNA damage, thereby contributing to various diseases. This study addresses gaps in knowledge by investigating exposure levels of these pollutants-measured via hydroxylated PAHs (OH-PAHs), phthalate metabolites (mPAEs), and PFASs-in urine from 101 e-waste workers and 100 office workers.

Photovoltaic panels are the core components of photovoltaic power generation systems, and their quality directly affects power generation efficiency and circuit safety. To address the shortcomings of existing photovoltaic defect detection technologies, such as high labor costs, large workloads, high sensor failure rates, low reliability, high false alarm rates, high network demands, and slow detection speeds of traditional algorithms, we propose an algorithm named ST-YOLO specifically for photovoltaic module defect detection. This algorithm is based on YOLOv8s.

Architecting hierarchical structures in monolithic covalent organic frameworks (COFs) is vital for the applications of COFs in mass transport fields. The MXene-coated bilayer aerogels containing β-keto-enamine COF (MX-TpX-COF) with different chain lengths of aromatic linkers are constructed for the study. The directional freezing method endowed the COF part and MXene coating with aligned channels, and the small pores mainly exist in the former, while the larger ones in the latter.
