MYD88 is an IL-6 primary response gene and, its upregulation of expression has been shown to be a poor prognostic factor in epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC). We investigated the effects of CpG methylation at the proximal promoter/5'UTR and IL-6/SP1/IRF1 signaling on upregulation of MYD88 and prognosis in EOC. We assessed CpG methylation at the proximal promoter/5'UTR of MYD88 using bisulfite sequencing/PCR in 103 EOC patients, 28 normal ovarian tissues and two EOC cell lines with differential expression of MYD88 and identified the impact of the level of CpG methylation on MYD88 upregulation by SP1/IRF1 with knockdown or blockade of IL-6.

The development of high-performance biodegradable polylactic acid (PLA) materials integrating high strength, malleability and toughness is desired but an ongoing challenge. In this work, a novel full-biobased block copolymer was designed and synthesized by grafting L (+)-lactide (L-LA) and ε-caprolactone (ε-CL) onto lignin via ring-opening polymerization. The obtained lignin-PLA-PCL block copolymer was composed of rigid lignin and poly (LA-CL) rubber segment, could self-assemble into uniform nano-micelles with average diameters of 80-100 nm regulated by simply altering copolymer content.

SiO nanoparticles (SiONPs) are most widely available and coexisting with DOM at the mineral-water interface; however, the role of SiONPs in DOM fractionation and the underlying mechanisms have not been fully understood. Using Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry, combined with Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and X-ray adsorption fine structure spectroscopy, was employed to investigate the adsorptive fractionation of litter layer-derived DOM on goethite coexisting with SiONPs under different pH conditions. Results indicated that the inhibitory effect of the coexisting SiONPs on OM sorbed by goethite was waning as environmental pH increased due to the reduced steric interactions and the concurrent elevated hydrogen bonding/hydrophobic partitioning interactions on the goethite surface.

The vertical sequestration of dissolved organic matter (DOM) by iron minerals along the soil profile is assumed to be central to the long-term storage of the soil organic matter (SOM) pool. However, there is limited information available about how the interaction between DOM and natural iron-bearing minerals shape mineral SOM associations quantitatively and qualitatively in forest subsoils. Here, we systematically investigated the influences of forest organic layer-pyrolyzed biochar-derived DOM (BDOM) and leached DOM (LDOM) on quantity, molecular composition, and diversity of deposition layer-derived iron minerals-associated OM by using Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry and other complementary spectroscopy.

Source, composition and molecular diversity determine the reactivity and stabilization of organic matter (OM, dissolved [DOM]/particulate [POM]), affecting its behavior and fate. Here, multiple spectral and mass spectrometry techniques were applied to examine how riparian land-use shaped the source, composition and molecular diversity of POM and DOM (HDOM) in adjacent headstreams. Compared to HDOM with abundant lignins, microbially-transformed heteroatoms and carboxyl-rich alicyclic acids (CRAMs), POM exhibited higher allochthonous characteristics and more bioactive components, but lower molecular weight and diversity in different land-use-dominated streams.

Testosterone in male mammals is mainly secreted by testicular Leydig cells, and its secretion process is regulated by the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis. After receiving the luteinizing hormone (LH) stimulus signal, the lutropin/choriogonadotropin receptor (LHCGR) on the Leydig cell membrane transfers the signal into the cell and finally increases the secretion of testosterone by upregulating the expression of steroid hormone synthase. In previous experiments, we found that interfering with the expression of the Luman protein can significantly increase testosterone secretion in MLTC-1 cells.

As the only "tropical base of agricultural production" in China, Hainan lsland is vigorously developing high-value agriculture and is becoming the province with the highest proportion of cash crops. However, this intensive farming with large nutrient inputs has caused cropland degradation, nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) overloads and water pollution, which have been reversed to initiate the construction of free trade ports. Here, we systematically review the status, driving factors, and environmental impacts of cropland degradation and nutrient overload with quantified evaluations and compared with other global tropics.
