In this paper, an oral liquid containing Magnolia officinalis polysaccharide was formulated and its hypoglycemic effects were investigated. An orthogonal test was conducted based on single-factor experiments to optimize the formulation guided by sensory evaluations. Its stability and safety were also assessed.

Article Synopsis
  • Glechoma longituba is a medicinal plant whose quality can be improved through saline-alkali stress, potentially enhancing its pharmaceutical value for treating diseases.* -
  • The study found that applying different concentrations of NaCO induced short-term stress that elevated antioxidant enzyme activities and increased levels of beneficial compounds like sugars and acids in the plant.* -
  • By optimizing stress conditions, the research suggests a method for improving the cultivation of G. longituba, which could lead to better medicinal uses.*

TGF-β signaling plays an extremely important role in the occurrence and development of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), and the blockade of TGF-β/Smad3 pathway protests against the high-fat diet-induced obesity and diabetes. As a specific small molecule inhibitor of Smad3 protein, the biological activities of compound SIS3 were evaluated by high-fat diet-induced T2DM model mice. In vivo results indicated that SIS3 can not only significantly reduce the body weight, fat mass, and fasting blood glucose in high-fat diet-induced T2DM model mice, but also improve insulin sensitivity and oral glucose tolerance of high-fat diet-induced T2DM model mice after the injection of SIS3 with 5 mg/kg for 45 days.

The aim of this retrospective study was to compare accuracies of axial, multiplanar, and volume-rendered 3-dimensional (3D) images in the diagnosis of costal bone lesions.Forty-one patients, aged from 10 to 72-years old, with costal bone lesions underwent multidetector CT (MDCT). Axial, multiplanar, and 3D-volume-rendered images were reviewed by 3 reviewers for the property of the lesions (fracture, tumor, and tumor-like lesions or inflammation).

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to establish reference ranges for the atlanto-dental interval (ADI) in adults using MDCT and to see how these measurements relate to age and gender.
  • A total of 700 patients over 18 were analyzed, revealing that the ADI tends to decrease as age increases, with specific measurements noted for different age groups.
  • The results indicate no significant gender differences in ADI measurements, and the method used for measuring ADI showed reliable inter-observer performance.

Purpose: The purpose of the study was to obtain reference values for the sizes of the semicircular canals (SCCs) on multidetector computed tomographic (CT) images in different age groups.

Methods: Computed tomographic images of the temporal bone of 210 patients, a total of 420 ears without inner ear pathology, have been evaluated. These patients were divided into 4 groups by age: young children (<7 years), older children and adolescents (8-17 years), adults (18-59 years), and the elderly patients (>60 years).

A series of novel benzamide derivatives were prepared and evaluated using cell-based measurements. Among these compounds, 10f significantly inhibited Hedgehog signaling and showed equivalent or more potency than GDC-0449 in different tests. Furthermore, compound 10f potently inhibited the proliferation of Daoy, a medulloblastoma cell line that is reported to be resistant to GDC-0449, which indicated a promising prospect in the treatment of Hedgehog signaling pathway related cancer in clinical trial.

Objectives: To retrospectively determine, by using multislice computed tomography (MSCT), whether additional interpretation of sliding-thin-slab maximum-intensity projection (MIP) reformation images improve diagnostic accuracy when compared with the diagnostic interpretation of conventional sliding-thin-slab multiplanar reformation (MPR) CT images for traumatic ossicular chain separation.

Materials And Methods: Twenty-nine patients with pathologically or clinically confirmed unilateral traumatic ossicular chain separation who underwent temporal bone MSCT were retrospectively identified from electronic medical records. An additional 29 control subjects, who underwent temporal bone MSCT for other reasons, were retrospectively selected from the same period.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study aimed to evaluate the image quality of auditory ossicles using two different CT imaging techniques: sliding-thin-slab (STS) maximum intensity projections (MIPs) and multiplanar reformations (MPR).
  • - Fifty patients underwent a standardized scan, and their images were assessed by two blinded reviewers, focusing on the clarity of 15 fine anatomical structures, revealing high agreement between the reviewers regardless of the imaging method.
  • - Results indicated that STS MIP was better for identifying most fine structures, while MPR was superior for visualizing five specific structures of the ear; thus, both techniques have their strengths in different cases.
