While urban sound management often focuses on sound as a nuisance, soundscape research suggests that proactive design approaches involving sound art installations can enhance public space experience. Nevertheless, there is no consensus on a methodology to inform the composition of sound installations through soundscape evaluation, and little research on the effect of composition strategies on soundscape evaluation. The present study is part of a research-creation collaboration around the design of a permanent sound installation in an urban public space in Paris (Niches Acoustiques by Nadine Schütz).

Species phenology - the timing of key life events - is being altered by ongoing climate changes with yet underappreciated consequences for ecosystem stability. While flowering is generally occurring earlier, we know much less about other key processes such as the time of fruit ripening, largely due to the lack of comprehensive long-term datasets. Here we provide information on the exact date and site where seeds of 4,462 taxa were collected for the Index Seminum (seed exchange catalogue) of the Botanic Garden of the University of Coimbra, between 1926 and 2013.

Left ventricular assist devices (LVADs), which were introduced as a bridge to heart transplantation, are now an established alternative to heart transplantation (HT) for patients with advanced heart failure. These devices have undergone significant technological advancements over the years, and contemporary LVADs prolong life substantially in patients dependent on inotropic therapy or in those with severe ambulatory advanced heart failure with a median survival that exceeds 5 y, and most patients benefit from a doubling in functional capacity, even among those intended as destination therapy because of ineligibility for transplantation. Other intended goals for LVAD implantation consist of (1) bridge to remission or recovery and (2) bridge to transplant or candidacy for transplant.

Article Synopsis
  • * It compares outcomes of HTR with untreated subclinical AMR to a control group, finding that the subclinical AMR group had a lower mortality rate, although not statistically significant.
  • * The results imply that managing subclinical AMR more conservatively might be appropriate, but further randomized studies are needed to confirm this approach.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune inflammatory and heterogeneous disease that affects several systems, especially the joints. Among the extra-articular manifestations of RA, pleuropulmonary involvement occurs frequently, with different presentations, potentially in all anatomic thoracic compartments, and may determine high morbidity and mortality. The most common pleuropulmonary manifestations in patients with RA include interstitial lung disease (ILD), pleural disease, pulmonary arterial hypertension, rheumatoid lung nodules, airway disease (bronchiectasis and bronchiolitis), and lymphadenopathy.

The study aimed to evaluate a quantification method of pulmonary perfusion with Dual-Energy CT Angiography (DE-CTA) normalized by lung density in the prediction of outcome in acute pulmonary embolism (PE). In this prospective study with CTA scans acquired with different breathing protocols, two perfusion parameters were calculated: %PBV (relative value of PBV, expressed per unit volume) and PBVm (PBV normalized by lung density, expressed per unit mass). DE-CTA parameters were correlated with simplified pulmonary embolism severity index (sPESI) and with outcome groups, alone and in combinationwith tomographic right-to-left ventricular ratios (RV/LV).

High-level improvising musicians master idiosyncratic gesture vocabularies that allow them to express themselves in unique ways. The full use of such vocabularies is nevertheless challenged when improvisers incorporate electronics in their performances. To control electronic sounds and effects, they typically use commercial interfaces whose physicality is likely to limit their freedom of movement.
