Unmet needs and quality of life of caregivers of Korean breast cancer survivors: a cross-sectional study.

Purpose: As the survival rates of cancer patients have been increasing due to early diagnosis and technological advances in treatment, their caregiver burden has also emerged as an important issue. In view of this situation, this study aims to investigate the unmet needs and quality of life of caregivers of Korean breast cancer survivors.

Methods: A multicenter cross-sectional interview survey was performed among 160 caregivers of Korean breast cancer survivors.

Effect of bupivacaine on postoperative pain and analgesics use after single-incision laparoscopic appendectomy: double-blind randomized study.

Purpose: Local anesthetics can decrease postoperative pain after appendectomy. This study sought to verify the efficacy of bupivacaine on postoperative pain and analgesics use after single-incision laparoscopic appendectomy (SILA).

Methods: Between March 2014 and October 2015, 68 patients with appendicitis agreed to participate in this study.

Ligation of the death receptors for TNF-α, FasL, and TRAIL triggers two common pathways, caspase-dependent intrinsic apoptosis and intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation. Lipopolysaccharide induction of REDD1 is mediated by two distinct CREB-dependent mechanisms in macrophages.

REDD1 is induced by various cellular stresses; however, its expression in response to lipopolysaccharide (LPS) has not been clearly elucidated in immune cells. LPS stimulated CREB-dependent and NF-κB-independent REDD1 expression in macrophages. Early increases in CREB phosphorylation and REDD1 expression at 8h following LPS treatment were blocked by inhibition of p38MAPK and mitogen- and stress-activated protein kinase 1 (MSK1), but not PKA.

[Conservative management of adult small bowel intussusception detected at abdominal computed tomography].

Background/aims: The incidence of adult small bowel intussusception detected at CT has increased with advanced imaging techniques and universal utilization of CT scan. We aimed to identify factors that could predict the necessity of surgical intervention in adult patients with small bowel intussusception detected at CT during the past decade.

Methods: There were 39 cases of adult small-bowel intussusception detected at CT from January 2004 to June 2014.

Application of ultrasound-guided trigger point injection for myofascial trigger points in the subscapularis and pectoralis muscles to post-mastectomy patients: a pilot study.

Purpose: To investigate the therapeutic effectiveness of ultrasound (US)-guided trigger point injection for myofascial trigger points (MTrPs) in the internal rotator muscles of the shoulder in post-mastectomy patients.

Materials And Methods: This pilot study was a non-controlled, prospective, clinical trial. Nineteen post-mastectomy patients with a diagnosis of at least one active MTrP in the subscapularis and/or pectoralis muscles were included.

Conservative treatment for patients with acute right colonic diverticulitis.

Little is known about the natural history of right colonic diverticulitis treated with conservative management. The purpose of this study was to analyze the short-term outcome of a conservative approach to the treatment of patients with acute right colonic diverticulitis.
