Iron is an important micronutrient that plays a vital role in host defenses and bacterial pathogenicity. As iron treatments increase the risk of infection by stimulating the growth and virulence of bacterial pathogens, their roles in anti-infection immunity have frequently been underestimated. To estimate whether adequate dietary iron intake would help defend against pathogenic bacterial infection, mice were fed iron-deficient (2 mg kg feed), iron-sufficient (35 mg kg feed), or iron-enriched diet (350 mg kg feed) for 12 weeks, followed by oral infection with Salmonella typhimurium.

Between December 2019 and December 2021, 120 patients with NSTE-ACS admitted to the People's Hospital of Henan University of Traditional Chinese Medicine for PCI were randomized via a web-based randomization system into a control group (60 cases) treated with atorvastatin or a PCSK9 inhibitor group (60 cases) treated with atorvastatin + evolocumab.

Surgical implants are increasingly used across multiple medical disciplines, with applications ranging from tissue reconstruction to improving compromised organ and limb function. Despite their significant potential for improving health and quality of life, biomaterial implant function is severely limited by the body's immune response to its presence: this is known as the foreign body response (FBR) and is characterized by chronic inflammation and fibrotic capsule formation. This response can result in life-threatening sequelae such as implant malfunction, superimposed infection, and associated vessel thrombosis, in addition to soft tissue disfigurement.

With rapid development of vegetable industry in China, in process of refrigerated transportation and storage, large-scale abandoned vegetable wastes (VW) need to be urgently treated alone since they rot very fast and would pollute the environment seriously. Existing treatment projects generally regard VW as garbage with high content of water and adopt the process of squeeze and sewage treatment, which leads to not only high treatment costs but also great resource waste. Therefore, according to the composition and degradation characteristics of VW, a novel fast treatment and recycling method of VW was proposed in this paper.

Sediment records of black carbon variations over the last two centuries in North China.

Reconstructing historical black carbon (BC) variations based on sedimentary records are significant for understanding long-term BC emissions, tracing sources, and establishing effective strategies for pollution control. By comparing BC profiles between four lake sediment cores, historical BC variations were reconstructed on the southeastern Mongolian Plateau in North China. Except one, the other three records show close fluxes and similar temporal trends of soot, indicating their repetitiveness on revealing historical variations at a regional scale.

Antimony (Sb) and arsenic (As) co-contamination occurs in Sb smelting areas and is harmful to the surrounding ecological environment. The purpose of this study is to explore the spatial distribution characteristics of Sb and As in abandoned Sb smelting area and carry out risk assessments. Soil samples were collected from the smelting area profile and background points, and groundwater samples were also collected.
