Objective: To assess the expression of vascular normalization genes in different molecular subtypes of breast cancer and to determine whether molecular subtypes with a higher vascular normalization gene expression can be identified using dynamic contrast-enhanced (DCE) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and intravoxel incoherent motion (IVIM) diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI).
Materials And Methods: This prospective study evaluated 306 female (mean age ± standard deviation, 50 ± 10 years), recruited between January 2014 and August 2017, who had breast cancer larger than 1 cm in diameter (308 tumors). DCE MRI followed by IVIM DWI studies using 11 different b-values (0 to 1200 s/mm²) were performed on a 1.
Rationale: Children dependent on mechanical ventilation are a vulnerable population by virtue of their chronic disability and are therefore at increased risk for health disparities and access barriers. The present study is the first, to our knowledge, to conduct a large-scale survey of caregivers of ventilator-dependent children to develop a comprehensive socio-demographic profile.
Objectives: To describe the demographic and health status profile of ventilator-dependent children, to identify the types of unmet needs families caring for a child on a ventilator face, and to determine the correlates of access to care coordination.
Plastic bronchitis (PB) is a rare disease that often occurs in patients with congenital heart disease (CHD) who have undergone staged single-ventricle palliation. It is characterized by the formation of rubbery "casts" in the airways. PB treatment frequently includes inhaled tissue plasminogen activator (tPA).

We reviewed our experience with VEPTR implantation to determine if lung function and growth is augmented, to determine the children's functional status, and if the scoliosis is controlled.
Methods: From 2006 to 2010, 29 insertions and 57 expansions were performed in 26 patients at our institution.
Human rhinovirus is responsible for the majority of virus-induced asthma exacerbations. To determine the immunologic mechanisms underlying rhinovirus (RV)-induced asthma exacerbations, we combined mouse models of allergic airways disease and human rhinovirus infection. We inoculated OVA-sensitized and challenged BALB/c mice with rhinovirus serotype 1B, a minor group strain capable of infecting mouse cells.

Using a mouse model of human RV infection, we sought to determine the requirement of CXCR2, the receptor for ELR-positive CXC chemokines, for RV-induced airway neutrophilia and hyperresponsiveness. Wild-type and CXCR2(-/-) mice were inoculated intranasally with RV1B or sham HeLa cell supernatant.

To investigate mechanisms associated with the beneficial effects of AZM in CF, we examined bacterial load, cytokine levels, and clearance of inflammatory cells in CF mice infected with mucoid PA and treated with AZM.

Objectives: We sought to develop a mouse model of RV employing RV1B, a minor group serotype that binds to the low-density lipoprotein receptor.
Methods: C57BL/6 mice were inoculated intranasally with RV1B, replication-deficient ultraviolet (UV)-irradiated RV1B, or RV39, a major group virus.
Background: M-phase promoting factor (MPF), which is comprised of Cyclin B and a catalytic subunit, Cdc2, is a key enzyme required for cells to enter M phase in both mitosis and meiosis. MPF activity is controlled by the stimulatory dephosphorylation of the Cdc25 family and the inhibitory phosphorylation of Wee1. We determined the levels of mRNA transcripts of MPF and its regulators in the testes of infertile men, and evaluated the relationship between the transcript levels and patients' testicular phenotypes and sperm retrieval results.

In the last fifteen years, their success in human clinical trials has prompted both in-vitro and in-vivo investigations to determine the mechanisms by which this family of antibiotics modulate the immune response. A large body of evidence suggests that macrolides directly target multiple components of the inflammatory cascade that occur independent of bactericidal/bacteriostatic effects.

Macrolides exert their effects on the host by modulation of immune responses. In this study, we assessed the therapeutic efficacy of azithromycin in a murine model of mucoid Pseudomonas aeruginosa endobronchial infection. The clearance of Pseudomonas from the airway of mice treated with the macrolide azithromycin was not different than untreated mice challenged with Pseudomonas beads.

A recombinant human type 5 adenovirus containing the murine MIP-1alpha cDNA (AdMIP-1alpha) was constructed to determine the effect of transient intrapulmonary expression of MIP-1alpha on leukocyte recruitment, activation, and bacterial clearance in a murine model of Klebsiella pneumoniae pneumonia. The intratracheal administration of AdMIP-1alpha resulted in both time- and dose-dependent expression of MIP-1alpha mRNA and protein within the lung.
