Quantitative ROI differences for assessment of occult intertrochanteric extension of greater trochanteric fractures on pelvis CT.

Purpose: To determine if difference in Hounsfield Units (HU) of the medullary bone between the injured and non-injured femurs in patients with greater trochanteric fractures is associated with occult intertrochanteric (IT) extension.

Methods: Retrospective review was performed of 81 patients (age range 54-102, 54 females and 27 males) who underwent CT and subsequent MRI after identification of a greater trochanteric fracture without evidence of IT extension on radiography and/or CT. Hounsfield units of the injured and non-injured femurs on CT were recorded at the level of the base of the greater trochanter centrally (ROI1) and the level of the upper border of the lesser trochanter posteromedially (ROI2).

The Survivorship Passport (SurPass) for childhood cancer survivors provides a personalized treatment summary together with a care plan for long-term screening of possible late effects. HL7 FHIR connectivity of Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems with the SurPass has been proposed to reduce the burden of collecting and organizing the relevant information. We present the results of testing and validation efforts conducted across six clinics in Austria, Belgium, Germany, Italy, Lithuania, and Spain.

Registered Nurse in Home Dialysis Therapies and Future Implications.

With an increased emphasis on home dialysis therapies (HDTs), and to ensure nephrology nurses have a voice in health policy discussions and decisions, the American Nephrology Nurses Association (ANNA) initiated the Home Dialysis Therapies Task Force. ANNA fully supports the increased utilization of HDTs and wants to ensure every individual has the option of HDT and deserves an RN in their care. Careful consideration must be given to the impact of legislative initiatives aimed at the nursing shortage and increasing the use of HDTs on delivery of safe care and RN practice.

Effect of Weld Length on Strength, Fatigue Behaviour and Microstructure of Intersecting Stitch-Friction Stir Welded AA 6016-T4 Sheets.

Friction stir welding is a promising joining process for boosting lightweight construction in the industrial and automotive sector by enabling the weldability of high-strength aluminum alloys. However, the high process forces usually result in large and heavy equipment for this joining method, which conflicts with flexible application. In order to circumvent this issue, a friction stir welding gun has been developed which is capable of producing short stitch welds-either stand-alone as an alternative to spot welds or merging into each other appearing like a conventional friction stir weld.

Introduction: Primary vaginal malignant melanomas are rare tumours with a limited number of cases published in the literature. Hip osteoarthritis (OA) is a disease process that impacts the aging population. OA of the hip is the result of degeneration of the articular cartilage, underlying bone and soft tissue structures. Radiography is the first-line modality for imaging OA.

Occult fracture propagation in patients with isolated greater trochanteric fractures: patterns and management.

Objective: To demonstrate the degrees of occult intertrochanteric extension on MRI in patients with a greater trochanteric fracture on radiography or computer tomography (CT) and whether these patients undergo conservative or surgical management with hardware.

Materials And Methods: Retrospective review was performed of 146 patients (104 females, 42 males, ages 33-102) who had follow-up MRI after identification of a greater trochanteric fracture without intertrochanteric extension on radiography or CT. Extent of intertrochanteric extension was recorded.

Home First: Exploring the Impact of Community-based Home Care for Older Adults and Their Family Caregivers.

Given the rapidly expanding older adult population, finding health care approaches that support older adults to age in their choice of place, with an accompanying philosophical re-orientation of health services, is becoming more urgent. We studied the Home Care Home First - Quick Response Project to understand how clients over age 75 and their family caregivers perceived the enhanced community-based services delivered through Home First. Using interpretive description as the methodological design, we explored the experiences of eight older adults and 11 family caregivers; all older adults were enrolled in Home First due to a significant change in their health status.

Closed rupture of the thumb flexor tendon pulleys is rare and, to our knowledge, the MRI findings associated with this injury have not been described in the radiology literature. The injury can result in nonspecific clinical and physical exam findings and advanced imaging may be crucial to diagnosis. A familiarity with the normal anatomy of the flexor mechanism of the thumb and the imaging appearance of pathology is therefore necessary.

A Quality Improvement Project to Improve Sepsis-Related Outcomes at an Integrated Healthcare System.

Hospitals are encouraged to take steps to improve outcomes for patients with sepsis, a leading cause of morbidity and mortality. A retrospective analysis examined data (n = 4,475) from three health systems to better determine the impact of a 10-month sepsis quality improvement program that consisted of clinical alerts, audit and feedback, and staff education. Compared with the control group, the intervention group significantly decreased length of stay and costs per stay.

It has recently expanded to evaluate low-acuity illnesses such as pharyngitis by using patients' personal communication devices. The purpose of our study was to compare the telemedicine-facilitated physical examination with an in-person examination in emergency department (ED) patients with sore throat.

MRI of the Extensor Tendons of the Wrist.

Objective: This article reviews the normal anatomy of the extensor tendons of the wrist as well as the clinical presentation and MRI appearances of common tendon abnormalities, such as tears, tenosynovitis, intersection syndromes, and associated or predisposing osseous findings. Treatment options are also discussed.

Conclusion: We review the anatomy and normal MRI appearance of the clinically important dorsal extensor tendons of the wrist, in addition to the spectrum of abnormalities associated with these tendons.

In the past 50 years, isolated blood platelets have had restricted use in wound healing, cancer therapy, and organ and tissue transplant, to name a few.
