Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to analyze how sleep discrepancy has been understood in previous research and evaluate the methods used to measure it.
  • A thorough search across multiple databases in April 2022 identified 244 relevant studies, revealing significant variability in how sleep was measured both subjectively and objectively.
  • The findings highlight that sleep discrepancy is often viewed as a mismatch in sleep states or time, with several methodological challenges needing attention, including issues with measurement definitions and statistical analysis.

Introduction: Sexual victimization (SV) is common among college women, with approximately half of those who have experienced SV meeting criteria for posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) within a year. Both SV and PTSD are associated with alcohol misuse among college women, often explained by the self-medication hypothesis. Existing literature focuses on overall PTSD severity rather than potential day-to-day fluctuations in specific symptoms, which might play a crucial role in understanding alcohol misuse risk.

The axoneme, a microtubule-based array at the center of every cilium, has been the subject of structural investigations for decades, but only recent advances in cryo-EM and cryo-ET have allowed a molecular-level interpretation of the entire complex to be achieved. The unique properties of the nine doublet microtubules and central pair of singlet microtubules that form the axoneme, including the highly decorated tubulin lattice and the docking of massive axonemal complexes, provide opportunities and challenges for sample preparation, 3D reconstruction and atomic modeling. Here, the approaches used for cryo-EM and cryo-ET of axonemes are reviewed, while highlighting the unique opportunities provided by the latest generation of AI-guided tools that are transforming structural biology.

We present a new measurement of the positive muon magnetic anomaly, a_{μ}≡(g_{μ}-2)/2, from the Fermilab Muon g-2 Experiment using data collected in 2019 and 2020. We have analyzed more than 4 times the number of positrons from muon decay than in our previous result from 2018 data. The systematic error is reduced by more than a factor of 2 due to better running conditions, a more stable beam, and improved knowledge of the magnetic field weighted by the muon distribution, ω[over ˜]_{p}^{'}, and of the anomalous precession frequency corrected for beam dynamics effects, ω_{a}.

Early identification and management of multimorbidity in patients with rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases (RMDs), such as RA, is an integral, but often neglected, aspect of care. The prevalence and incidence of conditions such as osteoporosis, cardiovascular disease, pulmonary disease and malignancies, often co-existing with RA, continues to have significant implications for the management of this patient group. Multimorbidity in RMDs can be associated with inflammatory disease activity and target organ damage.

Objective: Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) prevalence in the military is high and effective treatments are underutilized. Motivational enhancement therapy (MET) "check-ups" are brief interventions to elicit treatment uptake for those who are nontreatment seeking. The aim of the current study was to test the efficacy of a novel MET intervention designed to promote treatment engagement among active-duty U.

Aims: The aim of this study was to perform a systematic review of the evidence for the use of intraoperative cell salvage in patients undergoing revision hip arthroplasty, and specifically to analyze the available data in order to quantify any associated reduction in the use of allogenic blood transfusion, and the volume which is used.

Methods: An electronic search of MEDLINE (PubMed), Embase, Scopus, and the Cochrane Library was completed from the date of their inception to 24 February 2022, using a search strategy and protocol created in conjunction with the PRISMA statement. Inclusion criteria were patients aged > 18 years who underwent revision hip arthroplasty when cell salvage was used.

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative condition with several major hallmarks, including loss of neurons, reduction in striatal dopaminergic function, and formation of α-synuclein-rich Lewy bodies. Mutations in , encoding for α-synuclein, are a known cause of familial PD, and the G51D mutation causes a particularly aggressive form of the condition. CRISPR/Cas9 technology was used to introduce the G51D mutation into the endogenous rat gene.

Motile cilia and flagella beat rhythmically on the surface of cells to power the flow of fluid and to enable spermatozoa and unicellular eukaryotes to swim. In humans, defective ciliary motility can lead to male infertility and a congenital disorder called primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD), in which impaired clearance of mucus by the cilia causes chronic respiratory infections. Ciliary movement is generated by the axoneme, a molecular machine consisting of microtubules, ATP-powered dynein motors and regulatory complexes.

Purpose: Heplisav-B is a novel recombinant adjuvanted vaccine for hepatitis B virus (HBV) that has been approved as a 2-dose regimen and shown to have similar seroconversion rates in healthy adults as single-antigen HBV vaccines. More data are needed to determine whether similarly high rates of seroconversion and immunity are observed in immunocompromised patient populations such as in patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) on hemodialysis.

Methods: Patients with ESRD who presented for emergency-only hemodialysis and either were HBV vaccine naive or had a hepatitis B surface antibody (anti-HBs) titer of less than 10 IU/mL received 3 standard 20-μg doses of Heplisav-B at week 0, week 4 (±2 weeks), and week 24 (±2 weeks), with anti-HBs titer measured at week 28 (±2 weeks).

Spectroscopic measurements of dense plasmas at billions of atmospheres provide tests to our fundamental understanding of how matter behaves at extreme conditions. Developing reliable atomic physics models at these conditions, benchmarked by experimental data, is crucial to an improved understanding of radiation transport in both stars and inertial fusion targets. However, detailed spectroscopic measurements at these conditions are rare, and traditional collisional-radiative equilibrium models, based on isolated-atom calculations and ad hoc continuum lowering models, have proved questionable at and beyond solid density.

The COVID-19 pandemic changed home infusion nursing dramatically by increasing demand for home infusion nurses while decreasing their availability. Home infusion of intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIg) is an option for treatment of numerous conditions and requires considerable infusion time. Use of a higher-concentration IVIg product and shorter escalation increments may decrease required infusion time.
