While bumblebees may be exposed to microplastics (MPs), the effects on them are not well studied. Therefore, in this research, we assessed the cytotoxicity of pristine and photodegraded spray paint-derived MPs on the midgut, Malpighian tubules, and hepato-nephrocitic system cells of Bombus atratus workers exposed to 50 mg.L MPs for 96 hours.

The increase of plastic production together with the incipient reuse/recycling system has resulted in massive discards into the environment. This has facilitated the formation of micro- and nanoplastics (MNPs) which poses major risk for environmental health. Although some studies have investigated the effects of pristine MNPs on reproductive health, the effects of weathered MNPs have been poorly investigated.

We followed the influence of the CaCl concentrations during gelation of sodium alginate and the heating rate on the synthesis of nanoparticles by the combustion method using TGA as a reactor vessel.

Thus, the development of alternative absorbents that can be used in the remediation of contaminated areas is of great environmental interest. Humin, one of the fractions of natural organic matter, is a promising alternative in studies on the retention of different metals that are environmentally toxic.

The calcium absorption and sodium release of the beads were fitted to Fick's second law for unsteady state diffusion in order to obtain the effective diffusion coefficients of Na(+) and Ca(2+). The dried beads were characterized concerning their thermal stability, particle size distribution and morphology.
