Patient Acceptance of Telemedicine in Urogynecology Consultations - A Cross-Sectional Study Performed at a Brazilian Public Institution.

Objective:  To evaluate the acceptance of telemedicine and determine its associated factors in an urogynecology outpatient clinic of a public hospital in Brazil.

Methods:  The present was a cross-sectional study performed between June and November 2020. The included patients had their elective appointments postponed due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

Carotid Subclavian Bypass for the Treatment of Coronary Subclavian Steal Syndrome.

Coronary subclavian steal syndrome is an uncommon cause of angina in patients with a previous coronary artery bypass graft procedure. The patient had chest pain with the exertion of the left upper limb, difference in blood pressure between the left and right arm, occlusion at the ostium of the left subclavian artery. He underwent carotid subclavian bypass surgery that was successful in relieving symptoms.

Playing remotely in times of crisis: A program to overcome social isolation.

Objectives: This study aims to examine the feasibility of an intergenerational remote intervention program designed to promote the wellbeing and social connection of vulnerable older adults, mainly people with aphasia and dementia during the COVID-19 pandemic in the south of Brazil. Undergraduate students were guided to lead weekly sessions of clowning, storytelling, dancing, and cooking-related activities for 3 months (from November/2020 to February/2021).

Method: The mixed-method design of the study addresses the implementation and feasibility of the program.

Evaluation of Ongoing Participation of People with Schizophrenia in a Mutual Support Group as a Complementary Intervention to Outpatient Psychiatric Treatment.

This study aims to evaluate a group of people with schizophrenia undergoing outpatient treatment and who participate in a mutual support intervention, compared to another group of people with the same diagnosis, but attending only the usual outpatient treatment. This is a prospective study, with two measurements between six months. The mutual support group was initially composed of 16 people and the treatment as usual group was composed of 15 people.

[Clown therapy in the hospital setting: A review of the literature].

The presence of clowns in hospitals is relatively recent and more than 700 organizations now perform clown therapy in hospitals in Brazil and around the world. Considering the emphasis on comprehensive care and the humanization of health, it is timely to understand and analyze the national and international scientific literature on clown therapy. This practice challenges the hegemonic biomedical model and potentially helps in the recuperation of health.

Management of Intracranial Condylar Fracture With Intracranial Migration.

Despite condylar fractures representing one of the most common sites of mandibular fractures, intracranial condylar dislocation is a rare event. In this article, the authors report 2 patients. The first patient is a young female with signs and symptoms as commonly reported in the literature.

Social inequalities in the prevalence of common mental disorders in adults: a population-based study in Southern Brazil.

Objective:: This study aimed to investigate the prevalence and factors associated with Common Mental Disorders (CMD) in adults in a capital city in Southern Brazil.

Methods:: Population-based survey conducted on 1,720 adults aged 20 - 59 years from Florianópolis, Southern Brazil. The CMD were investigated through the Self-Reporting Questionnaire (SRQ-20).

The matrix approach to mental health care: Experiences in Florianopolis, Brazil.

This article reports on the experience of a matrix approach to mental health in primary health care. Professionals who work in the Family Health Support Nuclei, Núcleos de Apoio à Saúde da Família, pointed to challenges of this approach, especially regarding the difficulties of introducing pedagogic actions in the health field and problems related to work relationships. As the matrix approach and its practice are new aspects of the Brazilian Unified Health System, the academic knowledge must walk hand in hand with everyday professional practice to help improve the quality of the services offered in this context.

Associação entre lipid accumulation product (LAP) e hirsutismo na síndrome do ovário policístico.

Objective: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is the most common endocrine metabolic disorder in women between menarche and menopause. Clinical hyperandrogenism is the most important diagnostic criterion of the syndrome, which manifests as hirsutism in 70% of cases. Hirsute carriers of PCOS have high cardiovascular risk.

[Social representation of the community therapist in the Brazilian Unified Health System].

The approval of the National Policy of Integrative and Complementary Practices fosters the provision of Community Therapy in the Brazilian Unified Health System (SUS). This initiative seeks to develop the necessary competencies to attend to the psychosocial demands in the professionals and the community leadership and to build support networks in order to extend the efficacy of Primary Health Care. This study aims to describe the social representation on the community therapist prepared by health care professionals employed at SUS.

Galactose-α-1,3-galactose and delayed anaphylaxis, angioedema, and urticaria in children.

Background And Objective: Despite a thorough history and comprehensive testing, many children who present with recurrent symptoms consistent with allergic reactions elude diagnosis. Recent research has identified a novel cause for "idiopathic" allergic reactions; immunoglobulin E (IgE) antibody specific for the carbohydrate galactose-α-1,3-galactose (α-Gal) has been associated with delayed urticaria and anaphylaxis that occurs 3 to 6 hours after eating beef, pork, or lamb. We sought to determine whether IgE antibody to α-Gal was present in sera of pediatric patients who reported idiopathic anaphylaxis or urticaria.

Evaluation of high resolution gel β(2)-transferrin for detection of cerebrospinal fluid leak.

Background: Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leaks are potentially life-threatening conditions that can be diagnosed by detection of β(2)-transferrin using protein electrophoresis. Another less commonly available test is β-trace protein quantitation using immunoassay. The objectives of this study were to evaluate a new immunofixation-based β(2)-transferrin test for detection of CSF leaks and to compare it to an existing agarose gel electrophoresis test and β-trace protein immunoassay.

Oromandibular and limb hypogenesis syndrome: treatment report.

The oromandibular and limb hypogenesis syndrome is characterized by aglossia or hypoglossia presenting with limb anomalies. In this case report, we describe congenital hypoglossia associated with glossopalatine ankylosis and middle finger hypomelia, a type III-D malformation in the Hall Classification. The orthodontic and surgical treatment consisted of 3 maxillary expansions, mandibular surgery, and dental alignment.

Molecular analysis of microbial diversity in corrosion samples from energy transmission towers.

Microbial diversity in corrosion samples from energy transmission towers was investigated using molecular methods. Ribosomal DNA fragments were used to assemble gene libraries. Sequence analysis indicated 10 bacterial genera within the phyla Proteobacteria, Firmicutes, Actinobacteria and Bacteroidetes.

Warfarin or aspirin in embolism prevention in patients with mitral valvulopathy and atrial fibrillation.

Background: Atrial fibrillation (AF) associated to rheumatic mitral valve disease (RMVD) increases the incidence of thromboembolism (TE), with warfarin being the standard therapy, in spite of difficulties in treatment adherence and therapeutic control.

Objective: To compare the effectiveness of Aspirin vs Warfarin in TE prevention in patients with AF and RMVD.

Methods: A total of 229 patients (pts) with AF and RMVD were followed in a prospective and randomized study.

[Overweight and health-related quality of life in adolescents of Florianópolis, Southern Brazil].

Objective: To assess health- related quality of life and its association to excess weight in adolescents.

Methods: Cross-sectional study including 467 adolescents aged 15 to 18 years enrolled in a public school in Florianopolis, Southern Brazil, and their parents, conducted in 2007. Overweight and obesity were defined according to the body mass index.

[Street social education: historical, political and pedagogical bases].

This work is about street social education as a pedagogical system that started in Latin America in the late 1970s, as the street population formed mostly by children and adolescents called for attention. The first street social educators were 'pastoral' agents working at the praça da Sé a place with large numbers of street children in São Paulo. Based on the Liberation Theology and on the pedagogies developed by Paulo Freire, Celestine Freinet, Anton Makarenko, and Emília Ferreiro, the street educators developed a conceptual field and participated in the promulgation of the 1988 Federal Constitution, particularly by writing and introducing the 'Estatuto da Criança e do Adolescente' (the 'Child and Adolescent Statute').

Stages of moral development among Brazilian dental students.

This research study aimed to evaluate the level of moral and ethical development of first-year students in a dental school. The students were presented with a dilemma that touched on personal and conflicting values. In responding to the questions posed, they had to present their criteria for judgments and norms that directly influence their behavior.
