Background: Mucopolysaccharidosis (MPS) is a class of hereditary metabolic diseases that demonstrate itself by accumulating incompletely degraded glycosaminoglycans (GAGs). MPS are classified according to the kind(s) of stored GAG(s) and specific genetic/enzymatic defects. Despite the accumulation of the same type of GAG, two MPS diseases, Sanfilippo (MPS III) and Morquio (MPS IV), are further distinguished into subclasses based on different enzymes that are deficient.

Rapid Eye Movement (REM) sleep behavior disorder (RBD) affects nearly half of Parkinson's disease (PD) patients. However, the structural heterogeneity within the brainstem, which regulates REM sleep, remains largely unexplored in PD. Our objective was to identify distinct PD subtypes based on microstructural characteristics in the brainstem and examine their associations with the severity of RBD.

Correlation of Anti-Müllerian hormone serum concentration measured in proestrus and estrus with the litter size as a fertility marker in bitches.

The use of the anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) serum concentration as a fertility marker has been shown in cows, sheep and mares and has been indicated in one study in female dogs. The aim of this study was to investigate the connection between the AMH serum concentration, taken at two defined time points during the bitch`s heat, and the litter size to investigate whether AMH can be used as a practical measurement for the individual breeding bitch to predict litter size. The study was carried out on 27 healthy female dogs presented for pre-breeding examination, considering all previously known influencing factors on AMH in the bitch such as age, body weight and estrous cycle phase at the time the sample was taken.

Neuroanatomical heterogeneity drives divergent cognitive and motor trajectories in Parkinson's disease subtypes.

Introduction: Cognitive symptoms of Parkinson's disease (PD) may initially present subtly, often overshadowed by more noticeable motor symptoms. However, as PD progresses, predicting which individuals will experience significant cognitive decline becomes challenging due to variability, suggesting distinct PD subtypes with varying cognitive trajectories. This study aimed to identify early PD subtypes based on patterns of gray matter atrophy in brain regions associated with cognition and assess their distinct patterns of cognitive change over time.

Objective: Various facultative pathogenic bacteria have been detected in the dog's prepuce. To prevent the transmission of these bacteria, some breeders flush the prepuce of their stud dogs before mating. The purpose of this study is to find out whether preputial flushing is medically useful before mating.

Functional screening reveals genetic dependencies and diverging cell cycle control in atypical teratoid rhabdoid tumors.

Background: Atypical teratoid rhabdoid tumors (ATRT) are incurable high-grade pediatric brain tumors. Despite intensive research efforts, the prognosis for ATRT patients under currently established treatment protocols is poor. While novel therapeutic strategies are urgently needed, the generation of molecular-driven treatment concepts is a challenge mainly due to the absence of actionable genetic alterations.

An augmented reality dual-task intervention improves postural stability in individuals with Parkinson's disease.

Background: The Dual-task Augmented Reality Treatment (DART) trial recently established that dual-task training (DTT) delivered by a physical therapist or the augmented reality DART platform was effective in improving spatiotemporal gait parameters under single- and dual-task conditions in individuals with Parkinson's disease (PD). Data regarding postural stability were not reported in the primary outcome manuscript.

Objective: The aim of this secondary analysis was to compare the effects of a Traditional DTT intervention delivered by a physical therapist and DTT delivered by the DART platform on postural stability, functional mobility, and turning in individuals with PD.

Innovative Approaches to Addressing Pediatric Mental Health: Digital Technologies in Pediatric Primary Care.

Digital technologies can be used at multiple levels to support the mental health care of children including (1) health system/health care provider level; (2) patient-provider interface; (3) patient-facing consumer applications; and (4) new technology, including artificial intelligence. At each of these levels, these novel technologies may lead to care improvements but also may have risks. This review provides an overview of each of innovations across the digital landscape.

Topographic heterogeneity triggers complementary cascades that enhance ecosystem multifunctionality.

Topographic heterogeneity sets the stage for community assembly, but its effects on ecosystem functioning remain poorly understood. Here, we test the hypothesis that topographic heterogeneity underpins multiple cascading species interactions and functional pathways that indirectly control multifunctionality. To do so, we combined experimental manipulation of a form of topographic heterogeneity on rocky shores (holes of various sizes) with a comprehensive assessment of naturally assembled communities and multifunctionality.

Local intraoperative and systematic measures can reduce the incidence of leaks and leak-related sequelae. The early identification of leak-related sequelae, such as hemorrhage is pivotal to reduce the mortality risk.

In recent years several studies established the diagnostic value of anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) in companion animals. However, less is known about physiological AMH concentrations in young individuals highlighting the necessity to apply the diagnostic findings to this group. The aim of this study was to determine the AMH values of healthy male and female dogs between the age of 8 and 48 weeks, tomcats under 8 weeks and up to 48 weeks of age and queens between 2 to 12 weeks of age.

Trust in government moderates the association between fear of COVID-19 as well as empathic concern and preventive behaviour.

With the COVID-19 pandemic, behavioural scientists aimed to illuminate reasons why people comply with (or not) large-scale cooperative activities. Here we investigated the motives that underlie support for COVID-19 preventive behaviours in a sample of 12,758 individuals from 34 countries. We hypothesized that the associations of empathic prosocial concern and fear of disease with support towards preventive COVID-19 behaviours would be moderated by trust in the government.

Endoscopic vacuum therapy for the treatment of Boerhaave syndrome: a multicenter analysis.

Background And Aims: Boerhaave syndrome, an effort rupture of the esophagus, is a rare but serious condition. Endoscopic vacuum therapy (EVT) is a new therapeutic approach for GI perforation. We aimed to evaluate EVT for treatment of Boerhaave syndrome.

User expectations and experiences of an assistive robotic arm in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis: a multicenter observational study.

Objective: Robotic arms are innovative assistive devices for ALS patients with progressive motor deficits of arms and hands. The objective was to explore the patients´ expectations towards a robotic arm system and to assess the actual experiences after the provision of the device.

Methods: A prospective observational study was conducted at 9 ALS centers in Germany.

Effect of anatomical studies prior to medical school on medical school anatomy study success and residency choice.

Introduction: There is little research on how medical school matriculants' experiences prior to medical school effects their choice of specialty or performance in medical school. This research attempts to fill that gap in research in regards to surgical and radiological fields.

Methods: An anonymous survey was sent to fourth year medical students asking them their background in anatomy studies prior to medical school and their anatomy grades in medical school and interest in surgical and radiological fields.

Studies on the association of malondialdehyde as a biomarker for oxidative stress and degree of malignancy in dogs with mammary adenocarcinomas.

Background: Mammary adenocarcinomas are one of the most common tumour diseases in bitches. The relationship between oxidative stress and the degree of malignancy of the tumour has not been sufficiently researched in veterinary medicine.

Objectives: The main objective was to investigate the potential role of MDA as a practice-relevant biomarker for the assessment of systemic oxidative stress and to determine whether this parameter can indicate the malignancy grade of a mammary adenocarcinoma.

Background: Genome-wide functional screening using the CRISPR-Cas9 system is a powerful tool to uncover tumor-specific and common genetic dependencies across cancer cell lines. Current CRISPR-Cas9 knockout libraries, however, primarily target protein-coding genes. This limits functional genomics-based investigations of miRNA function.
