The pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of estradiol in humans are briefly reviewed in this paper. The estradiol vaginal ring was designed and developed to obtain controlled local delivery of very low doses of estradiol resulting in a marginal effect on plasma concentrations of estradiol, associated with a margin of safety over a prolonged period of time. Three clinical studies in postmenopausal women with signs and symptoms while plasma levels remain virtually unchanged in the lower part of the normal postmenopausal range.

At the point of irreversible ovarian failure, at menopause, the production of estradiol decreases dramatically, which results in circulating serum levels less than 120 pmol/l. It is important to recognise the pharmacokinetic and metabolic outcomes associated with dosage and route of delivery of estrogen.

IgE-CRIE analysis indicated the presence of A. fumigatus-specific IgE in sera of patients with ABPA and Aspergillus asthma but not of aspergilloma patients.

By applying a CIE/CRIE system with intermediate gel, the content of dander-specific and serum-specific allergens was established. Thirteen serum-related and eight dander-related antigens were identified in cat dandruff.

10 strains (isolates) of Aspergillus fumigatus, grown and harvested under identical conditions, were compared with respect to biochemical and immunological properties. The total protein and carbohydrate content isoelectric focusing pattern were determined for each of the individual strains. Their antigenic and allergenic activity was examined by a combination of crossed immunoelectrophoresis (CIE)/crossed radioimmunoelectrophoresis (CRIE) and RAST inhibition.

Classification into minor and major deep vein thrombosis (DVT) was made. This study indicates that patients with repeatedly decreased Xa inhibitor activity during the first two days after trauma are highly disposed to develop postoperative DVT.

The effect of sodium caprylate on platelet function and other hematological parameters was studied, using rabbits as experimental animals. Intravenous administration of caprylate resulted in a pronounced, although transient, inhibition of platelet reactivity as measured by the laser technique. A single oral dose of caprylate had no effect on platelet adhesiveness.
