Objective: To determine the effect of common beverages and accelerated aging on the colour stability of filled resins, which could potentially be used for fabrication of 3D-printed orthodontic brackets.
Materials And Methods: GR-17.1 (shades A1, A2, and A3), and GR-10 Guide resins (pro3dure medical, Eden Prairie, MN) were printed on an Asiga MAX UV printer into discs 2 mm thick, with a diameter of 10 mm, and then post-print processed as per manufacturer's instructions.
Potassium is a macro element in plants that is typically supplied to crops in excess throughout the season to avoid a deficit leading to reduced crop yield. Transpiration rate is a momentary physiological attribute that is indicative of soil water content, the plant's water requirements, and abiotic stress factors. In this study, two systems were combined to create a hyperspectral-physiological plant database for classification of potassium treatments (low, medium, and high) and estimation of momentary transpiration rate from hyperspectral images.

This system provides a simultaneously measured, detailed physiological response profile for each plant in the array, over time periods ranging from a few minutes to the entire growing season, under normal, stress and recovery conditions and at any phenological stage. Three probes for each pot in the array and a specially designed algorithm enable detailed water-relations characterization of whole-plant transpiration, biomass gain, stomatal conductance and root flux.

Here we review recent work highlighting the molecular mechanisms allowing some plant species and genotypes to maintain productivity under water stress conditions, and suggest molecular modifications to equip plants for greater production in water-limited environments. Aquaporins (AQPs) are thought to be the main transporters of water, small and uncharged solutes, and CO2 through plant cell membranes, thus linking leaf CO2 uptake from the intercellular airspaces to the chloroplast with water loss pathways.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFBackground: Ovarian cancer arising in women with BRCA mutations is known to have a more favorable outcome and to be more responsive to platinum-based regimens than in those without a hereditary background. We analyze our previously published intraperitoneal (IP) studies in relation to BRCA mutation status and update their outcomes.
Methods: Among 62 patients with ovarian cancer enrolled in IP platinum doublet studies in clinical trials (with etoposide (n = 18), with floxuridine (n = 30), and with topotecan (n = 14)), a deleterious BRCA mutation was eventually identified in 10 patients.
Stomata, composed of two guard cells, are the gates whose controlled movement allows the plant to balance the demand for CO2 for photosynthesis with the loss of water through transpiration. Increased guard-cell osmolarity leads to the opening of the stomata and decreased osmolarity causes the stomata to close. The role of sugars in the regulation of stomata is not yet clear.

The specific and synergistic effects of these factors were studied theoretically using a mathematical model that includes inertial and dynamic contact angle terms. After validating the model for capillaries of uniform cross section, the model was extended to capillaries with sinusoidal modulations of the radius, since in practice, capillaries rarely have uniform cross-sections.

Plants respond to many environmental changes by rapidly adjusting their hydraulic conductivity and transpiration rate, thereby optimizing water-use efficiency and preventing damage due to low water potential. A multiple-load-cell apparatus, time-series analysis of the measured data, and residual low-pass filtering methods were used to monitor continuously and analyse transpiration of potted tomato plants (Solanum lycopersicum cv. Ailsa Craig) grown in a temperature-controlled greenhouse during well-irrigated and drought periods.

Tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum; C3) plants increase their water use efficiency (WUE) under abiotic stress and are suggested to show characteristics of C4 photosynthesis in stems, petioles, and transmitting tract cells. The tobacco stress-induced Aquaporin1 (NtAQP1) functions as both water and CO(2) channel. In tobacco plants, overexpression of NtAQP1 increases leaf net photosynthesis (A(N)), mesophyll CO(2) conductance, and stomatal conductance, whereas its silencing reduces root hydraulic conductivity (L(p)).

Anisohydric plants are thought to be more drought tolerant than isohydric plants. However, the molecular mechanism determining whether the plant water potential during the day remains constant or not regardless of the evaporative demand (isohydric vs anisohydric plant) is not known. Here, it was hypothesized that aquaporins take part in this molecular mechanism determining the plant isohydric threshold.
