Purpose: To characterize retinal vessel whitening (RVW) in Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP).
Methods: Single-center cross-sectional study. Review of clinical notes of clinically confirmed RP patients was performed followed by grading ultra-widefield imaging.
Short duration heat acclimation (HA) (≤5 daily heat exposures) elicits incomplete adaptation compared to longer interventions, possibly due to the lower accumulated thermal 'dose'. It is unknown if matching thermal 'dose' over a shorter timescale elicits comparable adaptation to a longer intervention. Using a parallel-groups design, we compared: i) 'condensed' HA (CHA; =17 males) consisting of 4×75 min∙day heat exposures (target rectal temperature ()=38.

Methods: A cross-sectional survey was performed in one health system assessing awareness of and barriers to accessing MHR.
Traditional medicine is widely used in sub-Saharan Africa, particularly in Ghana, where it is commonly integrated with modern orthodox medicine. This study examines the barriers that delay the pursuit of orthodox medical care for prostate cancer (PCa) in Ghana's Central region, where a blend of traditional and modern orthodox medicine exists. The preference for indigenous traditional medicine often results in late-stage presentations of PCa, adversely affecting patient outcomes.

The American Radium Society (ARS) Breast Appropriate Use Criteria (AUC) Committee performed a systematic review and developed a consensus guideline to summarize recent data and provide evidence-based recommendations.
Methods: A multidisciplinary panel comprised of 15 members representing radiation oncologists, medical oncologists, and surgical oncologists specializing in the treatment of breast cancer conducted an analysis of the medical literature from January 1, 2011 to April 1, 2024.
Objective: Extracellular lipoprotein aggregation is a critical event in AMD pathogenesis. In this study, we sought to analyze associations between clinical and genetic-based factors related to lipoprotein metabolism and risk for age-related macular degeneration (AMD) in the All of Us research program.
Design: Cross-sectional retrospective data analysis.
Background And Hypothesis: In accordance with the Cognitive Model of Negative Symptoms, defeatist performance beliefs (DPBs) are an important psychosocial mechanism of negative symptoms in schizophrenia-spectrum groups. DPBs are also mediators of negative symptom improvement in clinical trials. Despite the clinical significance of DPBs and their inclusion as a mechanism of change measure in clinical trials, the psychometric properties of the DPB scale have not been examined in any schizophrenia-spectrum group.

Objective: We present a machine learning approach that enables longitudinal monitoring of clinically relevant patient-reported symptoms for pwMS by harnessing passively collected data from sensors in smartphones and fitness trackers.
Methods: We divide the collected data into discrete periods for each patient.
Background: To evaluate the impact of testing frequency on the time required to detect statistically significant glaucoma progression for ganglion cell complex (GCC) with optical coherence tomography (OCT).
Materials And Methods: From multicentre glaucoma registries, 332 eyes of 201 glaucoma patients were enrolled over an average of 4.4 years.
Background And Hypotheses: The lack of psychometrically validated assessment tools designed specifically to assess negative symptoms in individuals at clinical high risk (CHR) for psychosis represents a significant barrier to the early identification and prevention of psychosis. To address this need, the Negative Symptom Inventory-Psychosis Risk (NSI-PR) was developed based on the iterative, data-driven approach recommended by the National Institute of Mental Health consensus conference on negative symptoms.
Study Design: This manuscript reports the results of the second study phase that psychometrically validates the final 11-item version of the scale in data collected across 3 sites.
Purpose: This report compares device use in a cohort of Spanish-English bilingual and English monolingual children who are deaf and hard of hearing, including children fitted with traditional hearing aids, cochlear implants (CIs), and/or bone-conduction hearing devices.
Method: Participants were 84 Spanish-English bilingual children and 85 English monolingual children from clinical sites across the United States. The data represent a subset obtained in a larger clinical trial.
Purpose: To evaluate RETFound, a foundation artificial intelligence model, using a diverse clinical research dataset to assess its accuracy in detecting glaucoma using optic disc photographs. The model's accuracy for glaucoma detection was evaluated across race, age, glaucoma severity, and various training cycles (epochs) and dataset sample sizes.
Design: Evaluation of a diagnostic technology.
Cyclic nucleotide-dependent phosphodiesterases (PDEs) play essential roles in regulating the malaria parasite life cycle, suggesting that they may be promising antimalarial drug targets. PDE inhibitors are used safely to treat a range of noninfectious human disorders. Here, we report three subseries of fast-acting and potent PDEβ inhibitors that block asexual blood-stage parasite development and that are also active against human clinical isolates.

The most common treatment for OSA is positive airway pressure (PAP) therapy. Few studies have examined interventions to improve PAP therapy adherence for adults with developmental disabilities or have recruited the assistance of caregivers to improve adherence with this therapy in the home.

Racial/ethnic variation in cancer burden reflects systemic and healthcare inequities, cancer risk factors, and heredity and genomic diversity. Multiple systemic, socio-cultural, economic, and individual factors also contribute to disproportionately low Black/African American participation in cancer clinical trials.

This study examined the demographic, clinical, cognitive, social cognitive, and functional differences between youth at clinical high-risk (CHR) for psychosis with and without comorbid ADHD.
Method: Data were drawn from the North American Prodrome Longitudinal Studies (NAPLS2 and NAPLS3), which included 764 and 710 CHR individuals, respectively.
Purpose: Breast lymphedema after post-lumpectomy radiation therapy (RT) is poorly defined and difficult to treat. The aim of this study was to define the incidence of breast lymphedema and identify factors associated with the risk of developing breast lymphedema (BL) in women undergoing breast-conserving therapy.
Methods: A retrospective cohort study of patients with early-stage breast cancer who underwent breast-conserving surgery (lumpectomy) followed by RT between January 1, 2014 and July 31, 2019 at a single institution.
The γ-tubulin ring complex (γ-TuRC) is an essential multiprotein assembly, in which γ-tubulin, GCP2-6, actin, MZT1 and MZT2 form an asymmetric cone-shaped structure that provides a template for microtubule nucleation. The γ-TuRC is recruited to microtubule organizing centers (MTOCs), such as centrosomes and pre-existing mitotic spindle microtubules, via the evolutionarily-conserved attachment factor NEDD1. NEDD1 contains an N-terminal WD40 domain that binds to microtubules, and a C-terminal domain that associates with the γ-TuRC.

Methods: In 211 HOME Study adolescents (Cincinnati, OH; recruited 2003-2006), we measured PFAS concentrations in serum collected during pregnancy, at delivery, and at ages 3, 8, and 12 years. Caregivers completed the Child Eating Behavior Questionnaire (CEBQ) at age 12, and we calculated food approach and food avoidance scores.
Mismatch negativity (MMN) event-related potential (ERP) component reduction, indexing N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor (NMDAR)-dependent auditory echoic memory and short-term plasticity, is a well-established biomarker of schizophrenia that is sensitive to psychosis risk among individuals at clinical high-risk (CHR-P). Based on the NMDAR-hypofunction model of schizophrenia, NMDAR-dependent plasticity is predicted to contribute to aberrant neurodevelopmental processes involved in the pathogenesis of schizophrenia during late adolescence or young adulthood, including gray matter loss. Moreover, stress and inflammation disrupt plasticity.
