Recently, several researchers have been trying to reduce the ecological effects of water pollution by considering the use of biodegradable materials that prevent the generation of secondary pollution in our environment and enable water reuse. Here, new biodegradable hydrogels based on alginate (Alg), gelatin (Gel) and polypyrrole (PPy) were successfully implemented to remove two known highly toxic cationic dyes from wastewater. The design process was performed in two steps: in-situ polymerization of polypyrrole within the Alg/Gel mixture, followed by hydrogel formation.
