According to law, persons injured in road traffic accidents are entitled to compensation. In almost 92% of cases, victims accept a modified solution suggested by the insurance company involved. If an agreement cannot be reached, or the disability is 10% or more, the case is referred to The Road Traffic Injuries Commission (TSN).

Apart from other clinical variables such as pain, the use of walking aids, and walking distance, the walking ability of patients was assessed by gait analysis performed on an electronic walkway. The parameters investigated were the maximal vertical force (MVF) and single-limb support phase (SLS).

According to the Barnet and Nordin's osteoporosis index, 66 patients were considered to have moderate or severe osteoporosis. There were no differences between patients with or without osteoporosis as regards the number of fractures with collapse in varus > 10 degrees, redislocation > 10 mm, or compression exceeding 10 mm.

A consecutive series of 149 patients were randomized to treatment with either the DHS or Ender operative technique. 120 patients were available at review six weeks after surgery.

Ninety-two patients were able to perform walkway tests on an electronic walkway and were considered the best prospects for rehabilitation. Thirty-seven patients' fractures were stabilized with Ender nails and 55 with a sliding nail plate.

Mobility of the pubic symphysis can be measured in vivo by two new methods. One is electromechanic (EM), with steel pins inserted into the bone. The other is roentgen stereophotogrammetric analysis (RSA), with tantalum bone markers implanted into the hip bones.

Pelvic instability is a controversial concept. The symptoms and signs are believed to be due to pelvic joint hypermobility. Differentiation from low back pain can often be difficult.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA specially designed compression plate has been used in symphysiodesis for chronic symphysiolysis with pelvic pain and discomfort suspected to be due to pelvic instability. Eight patients have been operated with this technique, and stable symphysiodesis was achieved in all. No signs of plate loosening were observed in any case.
