Background & Aims: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the fifth most common cancer and the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths. The only definitive treatment for both HCC and cirrhosis is liver transplantation, but long wait times in some regions and a relatively fixed number of donor organs negatively impact access to liver transplantation. The aim of the work was to evaluate and compare the short outcome of patients with medium-sized HCC who will undergo percutaneous microwave ablation (MWA) alone and in combination with TACE.

Objective: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is considered the highest recorded malignancy in Egypt. The shortage of appropriate biomarkers for early detection often results in the late diagnosis of the HCC. Circular RNAs (CircRNAs) are presented as long stranded non-coding RNA that combine covalently to make a sealed circular form which make them very stable.

Background: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a very common disease that affects 25-30% of the population in western countries. Many studies have observed the importance of infection in the development of insulin resistance, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, non-alcoholic steatohepatitis, and liver fibrosis and cirrhosis. However, the evidence from different studies was controversial.

Background: This study aimed to evaluate the role of Dickopff 1 (DKK1) serum levels as a marker for early detection of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and to compare it with alphafetoprotein (AFP) after non-surgical intervention (microwave ablation, radiofrequency ablation) in HCC.

Patients And Methods: This prospective study was conducted in Al-Mahalla hepatology teaching hospital from June 2015 to June 2017. One hundred and twenty patients were included.

Background And Aims: Egypt is considered to have the highest rate of hepatitis C virus (HCV) prevalence worldwide. However, HCV prevalence is currently declining due to the improvement of health education programs, improved environmental sanitation, and the introduction of novel treatment regimens. The aim of this work was to determine the HCV seroprevalence among Menoufia University students.

The prevalence of hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection varies across the world, with the highest number of infections reported in Egypt. Monocyte chemotactic protein-1 (MCP-1) is a potent chemokine, and its hepatic expression is up-regulated during chronic HCV infection. Fifty naive patients with chronic hepatitis C in National Hepatology & Tropical Medicine Research Institute and 20 healthy volunteers as controls were enrolled in a prospective study designed with strict inclusion criteria to nullify the effect of confounding variables and further minimize selection bias.

Background And Study Aim: Large hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) appears to be a major obstacle for radiofrequency ablation (RFA); therefore, attempts to increase the volume of coagulation by injecting hypertonic saline before and/or during RFA have been made. Transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) combines the effect of targeted chemotherapy with ischemic necrosis and eliminates heat loss if combined with RFA. Our aim was to compare the efficacy of hypertonic saline-enhanced RFA versus TACE sequential RFA in the treatment of medium and large nodular HCC.
