- A study on 21 patients with HTLV-1 associated myelopathy/tropical spastic paraparesis used conventional MRI to evaluate its effectiveness in diagnosing the disease.
- Over half of the patients showed nonspecific brain abnormalities, primarily in deep white matter, but there was a lack of correlation between MRI findings and clinical symptoms.
- MRI proved to be a sensitive but not very specific diagnostic tool for this condition, as spinal cord abnormalities were also rare and no unique lesions were identified.
