Ascorbic acid serum levels are reduced in patients with hematological malignancies.

In this paper we demonstrate that patients treated with chemotherapy and/or hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) have highly significant reduced serum ascorbic acid (AA) levels compared to healthy controls. We recently observed in in vitro experiments that growth of both T and NK cells from hematopoietic stem cells is positively influenced by AA. It might be of clinical relevance to study the function and recovery of immune cells after intensive treatment, its correlation to AA serum levels and the possible effect of AA supplementation.

Design, physico-chemical properties and biological evaluation of some new N-[(phenoxy)alkyl]- and N-{2-[2-(phenoxy)ethoxy]ethyl}aminoalkanols as anticonvulsant agents.

A series of thirty N-(phenoxy)alkyl or N-{2-[2-(phenoxy)ethoxy]ethyl}aminoalkanols has been designed, synthesized and evaluated for anticonvulsant activity in MES, 6Hz test, and pilocarpine-induced status epilepticus. Among the title compounds, the most promising seems R-(-)-2N-{2-[2-(2,6-dimethylphenoxy)ethoxy]ethyl}aminopropan-1-ol hydrochloride (22a) with proved absolute configuration with X-ray analysis and enantiomeric purity. The compound is effective in MES test with ED50=12.

Search for Narrow Resonances Decaying to Dijets in Proton-Proton Collisions at √[s]=13 TeV.

A search for narrow resonances in proton-proton collisions at sqrt[s]=13  TeV is presented. The invariant mass distribution of the two leading jets is measured with the CMS detector using a data set corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.4  fb^{-1}.

Measurement of the Top Quark Pair Production Cross Section in Proton-Proton Collisions at √[s]=13 TeV.

The top quark pair production cross section is measured for the first time in proton-proton collisions at sqrt[s]=13  TeV by the CMS experiment at the CERN LHC, using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 43  pb^{-1}. The measurement is performed by analyzing events with at least one electron and one muon of opposite charge, and at least two jets. The measured cross section is 746±58(stat)±53(syst)±36(lumi)  pb, in agreement with the expectation from the standard model.

Two-Year Data from a Long-Term Phase IV Study of Recombinant Human Growth Hormone in Short Children Born Small for Gestational Age.

Introduction: This ongoing, prospective, open-label, non-comparative, multicenter phase IV study is evaluating the safety and efficacy of recombinant human growth hormone (rhGH; Omnitrope(®), Sandoz GmbH) in short children born small for gestational age (SGA). Here we report data from patients who have completed 2 years' treatment.

Methods: Eligibility criteria included prepubertal children born SGA with growth disturbances defined as current height standard deviation score (HSDS) <-2.

The data set used for this analysis corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 34.

Recombinant growth hormone therapy in a girl with Costello syndrome: a 4-year observation.

Background: Costello syndrome is a rare syndrome of multiple congenital anomalies. The typical clinical traits include dysmorphic craniofacial features, skin hyperpigmentation and excess, feeding difficulties leading to severe postnatal growth retardation, short stature, joint hypermobility, and delayed psychomotor development. Additionally, Costello syndrome may present with an increased incidence of congenital heart disease, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, and increased risk of both benign and malignant tumors.
