Based on the basic plan to promoting cancer control programs, a cooperation between designated cancer care hospitals and regional medical institutions was outlined. Regional designated cancer care hospitals supports the system of regional cancer medical treatment cooperation, and prefectural designated cancer care hospital manage a prefectural cancer medical treatment cooperation. Although system is progressing, such as sharing regional cooperation pass and holding multi-facility joint meetings to promote regional cooperation, there are regional disparities, and we believe that further promotion is necessary.

Methods: A questionnaire survey pertaining to the development and publication of cancer clinical practice guidelines was conducted with funding by a Health and Labour Sciences Research Grant. Respondents included presidents and chairpersons of academic societies developing guidelines and members of the Cancer Guidelines Committee of the Japan Society of Clinical Oncology who were specialists in various cancer sites.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFAim: To study the clinicopathologic characteristics of hepatic nodular lesions with high attenuation (increased portal blood flow) compared with surrounding hepatic parenchyma on computed tomography (CT) during arterial portography (CTAP).
Methods: For six lesions found in six patients demonstrated as a high-attenuated mass by CTAP, CT during hepatic arteriography (CTHA; n = 3 patients), digital subtraction hepatic arteriography (n = 6) and conventional helical CT (n = 6) were evaluated retrospectively and compared with histopathologic findings (n = 4). Pathologic diagnosis was atypical adenomatous hyperplasia, nodule-in-nodule hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in one resected lesion each and overt HCC in two biopsied lesions.
The National Cancer Center Japan started to provide free, computer-based cancer information, through a service called the National Cancer Center--Cancer Information Service (NCC-CIS), to patients and their families, physicians and other health professionals via fax (telephone) and the Internet in 1996. NCC-CIS in Japanese is modeled on the Physician Data Query service produced by the National Cancer Institute in the United States and is produced from an independent standpoint adopted to the medical and social environment in Japan. NCC-CIS provides up-to-date cancer treatment information (staging, prognosis and state-of-the-art treatment by stage of disease), supportive care for each type of cancer, an image reference database, and a directory of organizations and lecture meeting reports in Japan in order to facilitate better understanding of cancer among people and support the decision-making process for physicians in order to achieve a reduction in cancer deaths.

Segmentation for a medical virtual environment is a process of image diagnosis. It should be performed by clinical doctors, otherwise the data may be meaningless for using clinical purposes.
