Purpose: The aim of this study was to compare the graft success rate, hearing outcome, and operative time in patients undergoing tympanoplasty for tympanic membrane perforation with the use of either biosynthetic or autologous graft material.

Methods: This was a prospective randomized controlled trial performed at a regional hospital. 41 patients were enrolled and randomized, with 20 patients allocated to the treatment arm (biosynthetic graft) and 21 patients allocated to the control arm (autologous graft).

Fish allergy is a significant health concern, with diagnosis and management complicated by diverse fish species and allergens. We conducted a comprehensive RNA-seq analysis of eight fish species to identify allergen profiles, integrating ImmunoCAP sIgE data to explore associations with allergen expression and diagnostic performance. Over 30 putative fish allergens were identified, with varying sequence similarities and expression levels, roughly classifying fish into two groups based on parvalbumin (PV) expression.

Pineapple () and ornamental bromeliads are commercially induced to flower by treatment with ethylene or its analogs. The apex is transformed from a vegetative to a floral meristem and shows morphological changes in 8 to 10 days, with flowers developing 8 to 10 weeks later. In an attempt to address the significant morbidity, mortality, and economic cost associated with tunneled dialysis catheter (TDC) dysfunction, we report the development of nitric oxide-releasing dialysis catheter lock solutions. Catheter lock solutions with a range of NO payloads and release kinetics were prepared using low-molecular-weight -diazeniumdiolate nitric oxide donors. Nitric oxide released through the catheter surface as a dissolved gas was maintained at therapeutically relevant levels for at least 72 h, supporting clinical translatability (interdialytic period).

Desiccation tolerance has evolved recurrently in grasses using two unique strategies of either protecting or dismantling the photosynthetic apparatus to minimize photooxidative damage under life without water (anhydrobiosis). Here, we surveyed chromatin architecture and gene expression during desiccation in two closely related grasses with distinguishing desiccation tolerance strategies to identify regulatory dynamics underlying these unique adaptations. In both grasses, we observed a strong association between nearby chromatin accessibility and gene expression in desiccated tissues compared to well-watered, reflecting an unusual chromatin stability under anhydrobiosis.
