A new Schiff base (HL) generated from sulfamethazine (SMT), as well as its novel micro- and nanocomplexes with Ni(II) and Cd(II) metal ions, have been synthesized. The proposed structures of all isolated solid compounds were identified with physicochemical, spectral, and thermal techniques. Molar conductance studies confirmed that the metal complexes are not electrolytic.

The present investigation goal was to investigate the chemistry of four new mononuclear mixed ligand Fe(III), Co(II), Cu(II), and Cd(II) complexes constructed from furfural-type imine ligand (L), and the co ligand 2,2'-bipyridine in addition to assessing their antimicrobial activity against some bacterial, and fungi strains. The structure of the complexes was interpreted by different spectroscopic techniques such as MS, IR, H NMR, UV-Vis, elemental analysis, TG-DTG, conductivity, and magnetic susceptibility measurements. The correlation of all results revealed that ligand (L) acts as a neutral ONNO tetradentate whereas the co ligand acts as a neutral NN bidentate.

Article Synopsis
  • Ovarian cancer is a highly lethal gynecologic cancer, often diagnosed at late stages due to its asymptomatic nature, highlighting the need for non-invasive diagnostic methods.
  • The study utilized AI and genome-wide analysis of circulating tumor DNA to detect epithelial ovarian cancer, uncovering significant epigenetic changes in DNA methylation across various markers.
  • The results showed high diagnostic accuracy with conventional regression and multiple AI platforms, achieving an area under the ROC curve of up to 1.00, while also identifying key molecular pathways linked to the disease's pathogenesis.

Optic perineuritis (OPN) in pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB) patients while on anti-tuberculous treatment is rare. It may occur due to tuberculosis-immune reconstitution inflammatory syndrome (TB-IRIS). Visual prognosis is poor if not treated early.

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of a phosphate mobile app (PMA), MyKidneyDiet-Phosphate Tracker ©2019, on hemodialysis (HD) patients with hyperphosphatemia. A multicenter, open-label, randomized controlled trial design allowed randomization of patients with hyperphosphatemia to either the usual care group (UG; receiving a single dietitian-led session with an education booklet) or the PMA group (PG). Thirty-three patients in each intervention group completed the 12-week study.

Global warming is the buzzword these days, where researchers and policymakers are working hard to figure out its causes and how we can achieve sustainable development goals. Several research studies have been conducted to determine the key factors that influence environmental degradation. However, studies have ignored the role of financial institutions in achieving sustainable development goals.

Muscle wasting, observed in patients with end-stage kidney disease and protein energy wasting (PEW), is associated with increased mortality for those on hemodialysis (HD). Oral nutritional supplementation (ONS) and nutrition counseling (NC) are treatment options for PEW but research targeting muscle status, as an outcome metric, is limited. We compared the effects of combined treatment (ONS + NC) vs.

Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate outcomes and toxicity in patients with endometrial cancer per our institutional adjuvant vaginal cuff brachytherapy (VBT) fractionation scheme.

Methods And Materials: We identified women with International Federation of Gynecology and Oncology stages I and II endometrial cancer who underwent surgical staging and adjuvant high-dose-rate VBT without external beam radiation. All patients received 30 Gy in 6 fractions to the upper one-third of the vagina, prescribed to a depth of 5 mm and delivered twice weekly.

Aggressive angiomyxoma (AA) is a rare mesenchymal tumour that is characterised by increased incidence in women compared with men, local invasion to the surrounding tissue and high recurrence rate. A premenopausal woman presented to clinic with pelvic pressure, intermittent tingling in the thigh and pressure emptying the bladder. CT scan, vaginal and gluteal biopsies, and MRI scan were performed to conclude a final diagnosis of AA.

Motivation: Species tree estimation from genes sampled from throughout the whole genome is complicated due to the gene tree-species tree discordance. Incomplete lineage sorting (ILS) is one of the most frequent causes for this discordance, where alleles can coexist in populations for periods that may span several speciation events. Quartet-based summary methods for estimating species trees from a collection of gene trees are becoming popular due to their high accuracy and statistical guarantee under ILS.

Introduction: Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is a tumor arising from the epithelial cells of the nasopharynx. NPC can spread and invade the base of skull, nasal cavity, paranasal sinuses, pterygopalatine fossa, and apex of the orbit. However, the involvement of the optic nerve in NPC is rare.

Herein, a simple and accurate spectrophotometric method was developed to detect gatifloxacin (HGAT) in a pure and ophthalmic formulation. The method depends on complexation of HGAT with Co (II), Ni (II) and La(III) ions in ethanol medium at room temperature. The experimental conditions have been investigated to reach optimum conditions for HGAT-metal ions interaction, including detection of a suitable wavelength, medium pH, reaction time and reactants concentration.

Purpose: After definitive surgery, women with early-stage, low-risk endometrial cancer are observed. However, some will require salvage radiation therapy for recurrence. The purpose of this study was to evaluate our experience using salvage radiation for recurrent endometrial cancer in patients who did not receive upfront adjuvant therapy.

Introduction: The susceptibility patterns of anaerobes are becoming less predictable due to the emergence of anaerobic resistance trends to antibiotics; hence increasing the importance of the isolation and antimicrobial susceptibility testing of anaerobes.

Materials And Methods: This study investigated the isolation of anaerobes from the clinical specimens of Hospital Sungai Buloh, Malaysia, from January 2015 to December 2015. All isolates were identified using the API 20A system (bioMérieux, France).

Objectives: Radiation is frequently added to chemotherapy for adjuvant treatment of advanced stage endometrial cancer. Multiple adjuvant therapy sequencing options exist, and little data is available to compare these. We compared outcomes and toxicities after "sandwich" chemoradiation (chemotherapy, then radiation, then chemotherapy) and nonsandwich sequences (chemotherapy then radiation, radiation then chemotherapy, or concurrent chemoradiation).

Cardiac aspergilloma is exceptionally rare with only a handful of cases reported and majority of them being in immunocompromised patients. Here, we present a case of cardiac aspergilloma involving the right and left ventricle in an immunocompetent patient that initially presented with acute limb ischemia. He was later found to have a cardiac mass with histopathological diagnosis confirming Aspergillus species.

Article Synopsis
  • Researchers synthesized various derivatives of oxadiazoles to investigate their potential as α-glucosidase inhibitors, continuing their exploration of heterocyclic compounds.
  • The synthesized 1,3,4-oxadiazole derivatives were characterized using techniques like NMR and mass spectrometry and were found to have varying levels of α-glucosidase inhibitory activity.
  • Among the tested compounds, most showed good inhibition compared to the standard acarbose, with compound 14 demonstrating the strongest activity (IC50 = 0.80 ± 0.1 μM) while compound 7 was less effective (IC50 = 45.1 ± 1.7 μM); molecular docking studies further elucidated the interactions between the active compounds

Despite of many diverse biological activities exhibited by benzimidazole scaffold, it is rarely explored for the urease inhibitory potential. For that purpose, benzimidazole analogues 1-19 were synthesized and screened for in vitro urease inhibitory potential. Structures of all synthetic analogues were deduced by different spectroscopic techniques.
