Background: Statins taken for cardiovascular indications by patients with breast cancer and lymphoma during doxorubicin treatment may attenuate left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) decline, but the effect of statins on LVEF among patients with no cardiovascular indications is unknown.

Methods: A double-blind, placebo-controlled, 24-month randomized trial of 40 mg of atorvastatin per day administered to patients with breast cancer and lymphoma receiving doxorubicin was conducted within the National Cancer Institute Community Oncology Research Program across 31 sites in the United States. At pretreatment and then 6 and 24 months after initiating doxorubicin, we assessed left ventricular (LV) volumes, strain, mass, and LVEF through cardiac magnetic resonance imaging, along with cognitive function and serum markers of inflammation.

Energy and nutrient deficiency in dairy cows in early lactation is considered to contribute to their increased susceptibility to mastitis. We have tested the hypothesis that feeding diets with high contents of either nitrogenic, glucogenic, or lipogenic components in early lactation affects both the endocrine and metabolic status, as well as the mammary immune competence. After calving, cows were fed increasing amounts of concentrate up to 10 kg/d rich in crude protein (nitrogenic, n = 10), glucogenic precursors (glucogenic, n = 11), or lipids (lipogenic, n = 11).

The objective of this research was to determine whether diet composition, or adding probiotic or symbiotic feed additives to broiler diets can modify the N composition of the excreta and the dynamics of ammonia volatilization from the manure. Objective measurements could improve cochlear implant (CI) fitting, especially for CI users who have difficulty assessing their hearing impressions. In this study, we investigated the electrically evoked mismatch negativity (eMMN) brain potential as a mainly preattentive response to pitch and loudness changes. A sacrificial film of polystyrene nanoparticles was utilized to introduce nano-cavities into mesoporous metal oxide layers. This enabled the growth of larger perovskite crystals inside the oxide scaffold with significantly suppressed non-radiative recombination and improved device performance. The novel material class of high entropy oxides with their unique and unexpected physicochemical properties is a candidate for energy applications. The diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) has traditionally been made through in-person evaluation. While the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted access to ASD services, there has been remarkable growth in research focused on novel ASD diagnostic practices, including the use of telemedicine. We implemented a standard ASD tele-assessment evaluation procedure, including use of a novel remote clinician-coached, caregiver-delivered ASD assessment tool (TELE-ASD-PEDS; TAP), with the goal of continuing to provide diagnostic services to young children and their families during the pandemic.

Virtual surgical planning (VSP) and three-dimensional (3D) printing have advanced surgical reconstruction of orbital defects. Individualized 3D models of patients' orbital bony and soft tissues provide the surgeon with corrected orbital volume based on normalized anatomy, precise location of critical structures, and when needed a better visualization of the defect or altered anatomy that are paramount in preoperative planning. The use of 3D models preoperatively allows surgeons to improve the accuracy and safety of reconstruction, reduces intraoperative time, and most importantly lowers the rate of common postoperative complications, including over- or undercontouring of plates, orbital implant malposition, enophthalmos, and hypoglobus.
