Nd-doped GeO-PbO glass with silver (Ag) nanoparticles (NPs) are produced with double line waveguides through fs laser processing for photonic applications. A Ti:sapphire fs laser at 800 nm was used to write the waveguides directly into the glass 0.7 mm beneath the surface.

We designed a real time, single-laser focus tracking system using low coherence properties of the machining femtosecond laser itself in order to monitor and correct the sample position relative to the focal plane. Using a Michelson Interferometer, the system collects data arising from part of the beam backscattered at the ablation spot. The data is analyzed by a custom software for position correction (employing an XYZ automated translation stage).

Thousands of people die every year from burn injuries. The aim of this study is to evaluate the feasibility of high intensity femtosecond lasers as an auxiliary treatment of skin burns. We used an animal model and monitored the healing process using 4 different imaging modalities: histology, Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), Second Harmonic Generation (SHG), and Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy.

We report the validation of the Diagonal Scan (D-Scan) technique to determine the incubation parameter for ultrashort laser pulses ablation. A theory to calculate the laser pulses superposition and a procedure for quantifying incubation effects are described, and the results obtained for BK7 samples in the 100 fs regime are compared to the ones given by the traditional method, showing a good agreement.

Objective: The aim of the present in vitro study was to evaluate, using two different methodologies, the effectiveness of pulsed Nd:YAG laser irradiation associated with topical acidulated phosphate fluoride (APF) for preventing enamel erosion and structure loss under regimes of erosion and abrasion or erosion only.

Background Data: An increased incidence of noncarious lesions (erosion and abrasion) has been observed, consequently new preventative therapies have been proposed.

Materials And Methods: Two different methodologies were performed.

Objective: The purpose of this in vitro study was to verify the efficacy of Nd:YAG pulsed laser at 1064 nm in sealing dentinal tubules in vitro, with its resulting morphological changes using clinical parameters applicable to the treatment of dentin hypersensitivity.

Background Data: Although many papers have been written on the subject, no rapid, efficient, and long-lasting treatment for this problem has been developed.

Materials And Methods: Twenty healthy extracted human teeth were kept in saline solution.

Previous research in our laboratory has shown that the polarization component of the electrical field plays an important role on the healing process of inflammatory lesions created in the end of the spinal column of Lewis rats, using a He-Ne laser at lambda = 632.8 nm. It is well known that polarization is lost in a turbid medium, such as living tissue.
