Background: Following mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI), also known as concussion, many patients with chronic symptoms (>3 months post injury) receive conventional imaging such as computed tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). However, these modalities often do not show changes after mTBI. We studied the benefit of triaging patients with ongoing symptoms >3 months post injury by quantitative electroencephalography (qEEG) and then completing a brain single positron emission computed tomography (SPECT) to aid in diagnosis and early detection of brain changes.

Background/aims: Cannabis is increasingly used in the management of pain, though minimal research exists to support its use since approval. Reduction in stigma has led to a growing interest in pharmaceutical cannabinoids as a possible treatment for lower back pain (LBP). The objective of this review was to assess the role and efficacy of cannabis and its derivatives in the management of LBP and compile global data related to the role of cannabis in the management of LBP in an aging population.

In most other patients the cause of PMB is minor and can readily be controlled.

The possibility of detecting pre-clinical ovarian carcinoma by ovarian cytology taken at the time of laparotomy has been studied in 472 patients. Malignant cells have been recovered from ovarian carcinomas but never from macroscopically normal ovaries. It is suggested that this simple, inexpensive technique of sampling cells from the ovarian surface should be continued to be practised on all occasions at which ovaries present such as at laparotomy or at laparoscopy, as with further experience this technique may prove to be of help in the early diagnosis of ovarian carcinoma.
