Purpose Of Review: The urinary tract is the infection site in severe sepsis/septic shock in 10-30%.
Recent Findings: There is a new Sepsis definition focusing on severe sepsis. Urosepsis is mainly due to obstructed uropathy of the upper urinary tract.
Given the increasing prevalence of metabolic syndrome (MetS) in males of reproductive age, the objective of this prospective case-controlled study was to investigate the impact of subacute systemic inflammation associated with MetS on seminal cytokines and standard sperm parameters in comparison with healthy men. Between 2011 and 2014, we recruited 27 patients with MetS out of 41 obese patients screened from an internal outpatient clinic. Twenty-seven age-matched healthy controls were enrolled from 54 men requesting vasectomy in a urological outpatient clinic.

Materials And Methods: All patients who underwent urologic surgical procedures from December 2008 to October 2013 in a tertiary referral urologic center were considered for this study. All patients received antimicrobial prophylaxis in line with European Association of Urology guidelines on urologic infections.
Introduction: Guidelines recommend neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) before radical cystectomy (RC) in patients with urothelial carcinoma of the bladder in clinical stages T2-T4a, cN0M0. We examined the frequency and current practice of NAC and sought to identify predictors for the use of NAC in a prospective contemporary cohort.
Materials And Methods: We analyzed prospective data from 679 patients in the PROMETRICS (PROspective MulticEnTer RadIcal Cystectomy Series 2011) database.
Unlabelled: Background/Aims/Objectives: Chronic prostatitis/chronic pelvic pain syndrome (CP/CPPS) has detrimental effects on the quality of life including the aspect of sexual dysfunction. The aim of the study was to identify if there was an adverse effect on the male genital compartment and if there are systemic or compartment-specific local signals for epigenetic dysregulation of inflammatory factors in CP/CPPS patients.
Methods: One hundred five NIH IIIb CP/CPPS patients and 41 healthy men were recruited and underwent investigations of urines, semen and blood.
Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are among the most common bacterial infections and constitute for a considerable number of all antibiotic prescriptions. The surge of multi-resistant bacteria has significantly complicated empirical treatment leading to wide use of broad-spectrum antibiotics, further driving resistance development. New ways to detect and quantify host and bacterial molecules in urine promise opportunities to improve diagnostics of UTIs, which can translate to new approaches in treatment regimens.

The aim of the present study was to assess the utility of the different domains of ACSS including the 'dynamics' domain after therapy. The applicability of these domains in assessing changes in symptoms, as a function of time, in this population was investigated.

Topics: This review gives a comprehensive overview on the most important urogenital tract infections (prostatitis, epididymitis, orchitis, male accessory gland infection-MAGI) and the impact on fertility.
Introduction: Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are the second most common nosocomially acquired infections, responsible for approximately 21% of healthcare-associated pyelonephritis and 10.5% of urosepsis. Worldwide trends of increasing resistance resulted in the urgent need for novel antimicrobials that would be active against bacterial resistance mechanisms as an alternative to carbapenems, which are considered last resort antibiotics.

The phase 3 RECAPTURE program compared the efficacy and safety of ceftazidime-avibactam and doripenem in patients with complicated urinary tract infection (cUTI), including acute pyelonephritis.
Methods: Hospitalized adults with suspected or microbiologically confirmed cUTI/acute pyelonephritis were randomized 1:1 to ceftazidime-avibactam 2000 mg/500 mg every 8 hours or doripenem 500 mg every 8 hours (doses adjusted for renal function), with possible oral antibiotic switch after ≥5 days (total treatment duration up to 10 days or 14 days for patients with bacteremia).
Objective: To compare fosfomycin trometamol (FT) and ciprofloxacin (CIP) for antibiotic prophylaxis in transrectal prostate biopsy (TR-PB).
Patients And Methods: Data for 1109 patients (mean age 66.7 ± 8.
Study Question: Are ten-eleven-translocation (TET) 1-3 family enzymes involved in human spermatogenesis and do they impact male fertility?
Summary Answer: TET1, TET2 and TET3 are successively expressed at different stages of human spermatogenesis, and their expression levels associate with male fertility.
What Is Known Already: Spermatogenesis is a complex cell differentiation process accompanied by a drastic epigenetic remodeling. TET1-3 dioxygenases are essential for active DNA demethylation in the paternal pronucleus and in embryonic stem cells.
Background: Acute epididymitis is an inflammation of the epididymis. It mostly occurs unilaterally and may spread to the testis ('epididymo-orchitis') if untreated. Increasing technological advances allow for an even more detailed examination of concurrent symptoms such as ejaculate changes and the whole spectrum of pathogenic agents, which ranges from sexually transmitted pathogens such as Chlamydia and gonococci to enterobacteria and, rarely, viruses.

Before discharge, a follow-up examination with a urine dipstick and a second urine culture were performed.
Results: No symptomatic urinary tract infections (UTI) occurred during the average follow-up period of 15.
Hormone replacement therapy with testosterone has become well-established over the course of time. The initial substantial concerns with respect to complications and potential adverse events, particularly in older patients, were proven to be unfounded over time. Testosterone therapy has therefore gradually become a regular treatment modality in urological practice.

The urogenital tract is considered to be responsible for about 30 % of the cases of septic processes, whereby obstructive uropathy is causative in about 80 % of these cases. Sepsis manifests as an initially predominant proinflammatory response by widespread release of inflammatory mediators as a result of activation of cells responsive to infectious components such as bacterial toxins, which is then accompanied by a counter-regulatory anti-inflammatory response.

Three cohorts of a total of 19 healthy male subjects were included in the add-on study and received the following BAL30072 dosages. The 1st cohort received 1 g once a day (q.

Methods: This review is based on pertinent articles retrieved by a selective search in MEDLINE, and on guidelines and systematic reviews from Germany and abroad.
Urinary tract infections (UTIs) and asymptomatic bacteriuria are frequent in elderly patients. Distinguishing UTI from asymptomatic bacteriuria in older adults, particularly those living in long-term care facilities, might be a challenge for physicians due to the presence of confounding factors, such as an overactive bladder, prostate enlargement, and an indwelling bladder catheter. The absence of standards in the definition and treatment of UTI in the elderly frequently leads to overtreatment.
