Atypical fibroxanthoma and pleomorphic dermal sarcoma: Local recurrence and metastasis in a nationwide population-based cohort of 1118 patients.

Background: The prognosis of patients with atypical fibroxanthoma (AFX) and pleomorphic dermal sarcoma (PDS) remains uncertain and no standardized follow-up programs have been established.

Objective: To recommend a standardized follow-up program of patients with AFX and PDS based on nationwide long-term estimates of local recurrence and metastasis.

Methods: All patients with AFX and PDS in Denmark between 2002 and 2022 were included.

[Primary cutaneous sarcomas].

Primary cutaneous sarcomas are a heterogenous group of malignant soft tissue tumours arising in the dermal and subcutaneous layers of the skin. These tumours are rare and have a variety of clinical manifestations. They differ from deep soft tissue sarcomas in terms of prognosis, which for most types of cutaneous sarcomas is favourable.

Reliable test of clinicians' mastery in skin cancer diagnostics.

Differentiating between benign and malignant skin lesions can be very difficult and should only be done by sufficiently trained and skilled clinicians. To our knowledge there are no validated tests for reliable assessments of clinicians' ability to perform skin cancer diagnostics. To develop and gather validity evidence for a test in skin cancer diagnostics, a multiple-choice questionnaire (MCQ) was developed based on informal interviews with seven content experts from five skin cancer centers in Denmark.

[Dercum's disease].

Dercum's disease is a rare disease, which mainly affects women and has an unknown prevalence and aetiology. The disease is characterised by generalised obesity and more than three-month painful subcutaneous adipose tissue not responding to usual pain treatment. A suggested classi-fication of the disease includes four types: generalised diffuse, generalised nodular, localised nodular and juxta-articular.

Targeted ultrasound and fine-needle aspiration cytology for sentinel node diagnostics in early-stage melanoma: a validation study.

Ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration cytology (US-FNAC) is used to evaluate the involvement of lymph nodes in various malignant diseases. Its value in detecting sentinel lymph node (SN) metastasis preoperatively in melanoma patients is controversial and is the subject of this study. In this prospective validation study, 91 consecutive patients with melanoma clinical stage I (n=64) and II (n=27) were examined with US-FNAC before SN biopsy from 2012 to 2014 at a tertiary center.

[Atypical subcutaneous presentation of a basal cell carcinoma].

Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) have many treatment options either by dermatologist, with excision or radiotherapy. A 78-year-old woman had a BCC removed surgically, and 18 years after she had a subcutaneously located tumour extirpated at the same location. The result of pathological examination was BCC located atypically in the subcutis.

Self-reported problems and wishes for plastic surgery after bariatric surgery.

In the affluent part of the world, there is an increasing occurrence of obesity with Body Mass Index (BMI) above 40, which has resulted in an increasing number of operations such as gastric bypass (GB). After massive weight loss there will often be a need for subsequent plastic surgical correction, since some of the patients will experience problems due to excess skin. Foreign studies estimate that ∼30% of all bariatric surgery patients will at some point seek plastic surgical correction of excess skin.

Computed tomography scanning and recurrence after laparoscopic ventral hernia repair.

Laparoscopic ventral hernia repair is an advancing surgical method. It seems to have fewer recurrences than open surgery. However, with patients suspected of recurrence after laparoscopic hernia repair, it can be very difficult to determine whether or not there is recurrence by clinical examination alone.
