Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigated the roles of long noncoding RNAs (NEAT1), microRNAs (miR-21), and cytokine (IL-17) in Behçet's disease (BD) by comparing their levels in Egyptian BD patients to healthy individuals.
  • - Findings revealed that NEAT1 and miR-21 were downregulated and IL-17 was upregulated in BD patients, with IL-17 showing significant correlations with certain disease manifestations and treatments.
  • - The research suggests that these molecules could be important in understanding BD's pathogenesis, indicating a need for further studies to explore their potential as biomarkers or therapeutic targets.

Background: Dysregulation of both cellular and humoral immune responses is central in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) pathogenetic mechanisms. Proinflammatory cytokines, such as interleukin 23 (IL23), and their roles in promoting such dysregulation have recently been highly considered. This research compared IL23 serum levels in 85 Egyptian SLE patients and 85 healthy controls.
